| Jan. 22 AKA: Southpaw 179 posts | War Stories until the season starts. Anyone? For me, one of the best aromas in all the world is freshly ground coffee. Just as special is popcorn, especially at the movie theatre. Which reminds me of May, 1970, Vietnam. There were 30 of us in Firebase Trooper, home to C troop, 2/1 Cav. Mail delivery had been interrupted for over a month but finally a number of my family and friends' care packages arrived. I had over 100 Jiffy Pop popcorns! I passed them out to everyone in the firebase and all evening you could hear the bags popping. The aromas spread out over the firebase and I began to fear that the enemy would smell it as well. Thankfully nothing eventful happened and for just a little while popcorn made me just a bit less homesick. |
