Earlier I asked if there would be interest in coming to Telluride, Colorado for a senior tournament. At that time, the dates were July 29-31. There was positive interest but a possible conflict with SSUSA Prescott, AZ tournament.

The Telluride Baseball Festival is willing to change the dates of the Telluride Seniors Tournament to July 22-25 and would like to know if any western teams have interest in coming to this tournament on that week-end? Obviously, it will be a small tournament played in one of the most beautiful settings in North America. The 38th Annual Telluride Bluegrass Festival just ended on Sunday where Sarah McLauchlin, Emmy Lou Harris and Robert Plant performed for the crowd, among others.

We are currently looking for sponsors and prizes for this tournament. For years, the Telluride Invitational Softball Tournament was a favorite to Arizona, New Mexico, Utah, Colorado & California teams. This is the first time in over 15 years that Telluride has approved another softball tournament, which will be affiliated with the Telluride Baseball Festival.

If you are interested in participating and/or attending this tourney, please let me know. The fields are situated in the historical Victorian Town of Telluride where Butch Cassidy robbed his first bank. There is a camp ground immediately next to the fields with hiking and biking trails leading away from the fields. There is a swimming pool, trout stream and pond, bathroom and shower facilities at the Town Park.

We will have additional information on additional accomodations and prizes if we get enough interest to run this warmup tournament the week prior to Prescott. I can be reached at (970) 728-3144/ 729-3145.

Hey, Ed-I will talk to the Desperados about it. Frankly, I doubt we would commit to 3 travel tourneys in 4 weeks, but I will try.

Hey Mark, One great thing about this tourney opportunity, among others, is that it is not a senior organization sanctioned event, therefor a roster may be assembled with different or new players that perhaps teams may be thinking about adding. I want to compliment the Telluride Baseball Festival and show this town and these talented young baseball players what senior ball is all about and there is no doubt in my mind that top quality talent exists in the west. I don't expect a big tournout but you can bet your bottom dollar that I will do everything in my power to make it a success and an attraction to senior athletes.

I intend to work with local Telluride businesses in an attempt to gather worthwhile prizes for winners, runnerups and with property managers to get most reasonable accomodation rates. You've been here Web and you remember what this tournament used to be. I want to get it back to that level.

Ed-what about mid-August? That gives us a chance after Pinetop and Prescott.

Have to do this in cooperation with the Telluride Baseball Festival and they have the Park contracted for these dates at least this year. There is such a demand for our park all season long that makes it difficult at best to get it for a softball tournament.

Anyway, thanks for your follow up interest and look forward to seeing you later.

Ed-this came up too late for us to change plans, but keep us in mind. There is a lot of interest in going to Telluride on our team for next year. Thanks, Mark

Mark, Perhaps next year is the best option and we can plan it well in advance. I think it may be possible that I can get assistance from Reebok for next year as well. Thanks for your interest and follow up.

TELLURIDE SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT IS A GO

This tournament is happening. July 29-31 in the San Juans of Western Colorado. Any team, any age, any roster you care to put together. Five game guarantee, 290 ft. fences. Views of waterfalls, campground and trout stream next to fields, great condo rates with local property mgt companies. Very rare to get these fields because of wide demand for use of them.
