THE ASA COMBAT VIRUS MORPHED WAS CERTIFIED BY ASA ON 11/19/08. IS THAT THE ONE YOU THOUGHT WAS PENDING?

IN DENVER OUR WEEKLY LEAGUES REQUIRE ASA BATS. LAST YEAR I USED THE COMBAT ANTI VIRUS BAT. MOST OF MY TEAMATES ALSO USED IT. I HAD END LOADS AND BALANCED IN A FEW DIFFERENT WEIGHTS.
BAT PERFROMED EXCEPTIONALLY WELL AND ALMOST EVERYONE USED THEM OVER THEIR WORTH ASA MAYHEMS, ETC.. BALL CAME OFF IT VERY WELL.

FOR 2009 AT COMBAT WE HAVE A VIRUS MORPHED ASA BAT AND I WILL BE USING THEM. THEY COME IN END LOAD AND BALANCED FROM 26-28 OZ.
NO 30 OZ AS IT WAS A LITTLE TO HOT FOR ASA STANDARDS. SHOULD BE A GREAT BAT FOR ASA.

WITH MOST COMBAT BATS THEY ARE AS HOT AS POSSIBLE TO MEET STANDARDS. REMEMBER THOUGH THAT ASA BATS FOR 09 HAVE TO MEET THE 98 MPH STANDARDS NOT ONLY OUT OF THE WRAPPER BUT ALSO AFTER THEY ARE COMPLETELY BROKEN IN.

SOME COMPANIES (LIKE COMBAT) HAVE DEVELOPED TECHNOLOGIES THAT WILL DO THIS. OTHERS ARE GOING TO HAVE BATS THAT ARE ABOUT 92 MPH OUT OF THE WRAPPER AND WHEN BROKEN IN WILL MEET THE 98 MPH STANDARD. SHOULD BE AN INTERESTING ASA BAT YEAR.

SSUSA--ANY GAME SCORES, RESULTS FROM THIS TOURNAMENT? HAVE NOT SEEN ANYTHING YET.

HOLLYWOOD FIELDS IN VERY POOR CONDITION. LONG WALK TO RESTROOMS THE FIRST DAY UNTIL THEY BROUGHT IN THE PORTA JOHNS.
NO CONCESSDIONS. NO WATER IN THE DUGOUTS. FOUNTAIN WATER WAS NOT GOOD. HAD TO PLAY UNDER THE LIGHTS AGAIN. THEY WERE NOT TOO BAD BUT SHOULDNT BE NECESSARY WITH 7 TEAMS IN THE AAA BRACKET. WITH THE ENTRY FEES AS HIGH AS THEY ARE WE HAVE A LEGITAMATE BEEF.
YEA, WE LOST BUT IT DIDN'T MATTER IF WE HAD WON IT. THE CONDITIONS WERE THE SAME.
THE 60 AAA'S WERE THE ORPHANS OF THE TOURNAMENT.

I WANTED TO LET EVEYONE KNOW THAT IF YOU ARE WAITING TO SEE THE PICTURES FROM THE WORLD TOURNAMENT IN ARIZONA TO PLEASE BE PATIENT.

JACK (WHO IS THE PHOTOGRAPHER) WAS PLAYING BALL WITH US YESTERDAY, WENT AFTER A BALL, AND BROKE TWO FINGERS ON HIS RIGHT HAND (YES, THE GUY WAS OUT) BUT JACK IS IN A CAST, AND MAY REQUIRE SURGERY NEXT WEEK. THIS MAY PUT A DELAY ON SOME OF THE PICTURES. HE IS DOING THE BEST HE CAN WITH THE CAST ON.
JACK DOES A HELL OF A JOB TAKING THE PICTURES AND SPENDS ALOT OF TIME AND MONEY ON THEM. GIVE HIM A CHANCE TO CATCH UP.

Discussion: Dirty: Bats & ball info

HEAT AND COLD ARE DEFINATE FACTOR WITH SOFTBALLS. AS A PAST WORTH REP I SAW MANY REPORTS ON BALL PERFORMANCE TESTING.
TEMPERATURE AFFECTS A SOFTBALL AT APPROXIMATELY THIS LEVEL:
FOR EVERY 1 DEGREE OF TEMPERATURE CHANGE THE COMPRESSION CHANGES APPROXIMATELY 5 POUNDS.

BALLS ARE USUALLY TESTED AT 72 DEGREES.
IF THE PLAYING TEMPERATURE IS 82 DEGREES THE COMPRESSION CHANGES APPROXIMATELY 50 LBS WHICH WILL MAKE A 375 BALL PLAY LIKE A 325.
CONVERSELY IF THE TEMPERATURE IS 62 DEGRESS A 375 BALL WILL PLAY LIKE A 425.
(THAT IS WHY IN COLD WEATHER ALUMINUM BATS DENT MUCH EASIER--THE BALL IS HARDER)

IF YOU A GAME IS PLAYED AT 92 DEGREES YOUR 375 COMPRESSION SOFTBALL WILL PLAY LIKE A 275 COMPRESSION BALL.

THESE ARE ONLY ESTIMATES AND THERE ARE OTHER FACTORS SUCH AS HIUMIDITY, ETC. THAT ALSO TAKE EFFECT ON THE BALLS.

Discussion: NIght games in Phoenix 60 AAA

WE PLAYED AT DESERT WEST AND THE LIGHTS WERE REALLY BAD. MANY PLAYERS COULD NOT SEE THE BALL.

INFIELDERS WERE REACTING AFTER THE BALL WAS ALMOST PAST THEM. OUTFIELDERS COULD NOT SEE THE BALL. MANY BALLS DROPPED TO THE GROUND THAT NORMALLY WOULD HAVE BEEN CAUGHT. LINEDRIVES WERE BUZZING BY THE OUTFIELDERS BEFORE THEY COULD REACT.

NO MORE NIGHT GAMES --- TOO DANGEROUS

MAYBE PLAYERS WITH 40 YEAR OLD SIGHT AND REACTIONS CAN HANDLE IT, BUT NOT 60+ PLAYERS.

LET'S ADD ANOTHER DAY ON TO THESE WORLD TOURNAMENTS SO WE CAN PLAY ALL DAY GAMES!!

COMMON SENSE NEEDS TO PREVAIL ---
HELP US OUT SSUSA

I RECIEVED A CALL THIS MORNING INFORMING ME OF MURL SKALLA HAS PASSED AWAY TODAY JUNE 21ST.

MURL WAS ONE OF THE FOUNDERS OF SCRAP IRON SOFTBALL IN COLORADO. HE COACHED THE SCRAPIRON MAJOR PLUS TEAM FOR MANY YEARS.

I HAVE KNOWN MURL FOR OVER 30 YEARS AND WE LOST A REAL SOFTBALL ICON, AND A GOOD FRIEND.

I WILL FORWARD MORE INFORMATION AS I RECEIVE IT. THE FUNERAL WILL MOST LIKELY BE ON FRIDAY, JUNE 27TH.

Discussion: MURL SKALLA UPDATE

MOST OF THE SOFTBALL WORLD KNOWS THAT MURL SKALLA, COACH FROM THE SCRAPIRON 60'S, SUFFERED A STROKE,
HE HAS A TYPE OF BRAIN CANCER, AND HAS BEEN IN THE HOSPITAL FOR THE LAST COUPLE OF MONTHS.
HE IS UNDERGOING CHEMO AND RADIATION TREATMENTS.
HE IS STILL FAIRLY ALERT AND IS FIGHTING THIS. I TRY TO GO BY AND SEE HIM WHEN I CAN. I WILL TRY TO KEEP EVERYONE UPDATED.
MURL IS A SOFTBALL ICON HERE IN COLORADO AND ALL OVER THE COUNTRY. HE NEEDS PRAYERS FROM EVERYONE.
HE IS FIGHTING THIS BUT NEEDS HELP FROM ABOVE.

THANKS TO ALL HIS FRIENDS FOR THEIR THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS.

Discussion: What is best bat available that is ASA compliant for 2008

I JSUT RECEIVED MY NEW COMBAT ANTI-VIRUS COMPOSITE BATS.
I HAVE A 29OZ BALANCED AND A 28OZ FL (END LOAD). BOTH WERE INCREDIBLY HOT OUT OF THE WRAPPER FOR AN ASA BAT.
WANTED TO GET THEM BEFORE THE NEW ASA RULES GO INTO AFFECT JULY 1ST.
I HATE TO PLAY ASA BECAUSE OF THEIR DICTATORSHIP OF BATSBUT HAVE NO CHOICE AS OF NOW. WE ARE GOING TO TRY TO TALK THE LEAGUE INTO GOING WITH USSSA OR NSA BAT STANDARDS.
THE ANTI-VIRUS HAS A GOOD FEEL, THE BALL JUMPS OFF IT WELL, AND I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO WHEN THEY GET BROKEN IN.
I USED WORTH MAYHEMS IN THE PAST AND SO FAR PREFER THE COMBAT ANTI-VIRUS.

Discussion: NSA CANADA BAT INFORMATION

GOOD INFORMATION. LOOKS LIKE NSA CANADA WILL STICK WITH THE 1.20.
MAYBE THAT IS WHY USSSA, NSA, ETC IS GETTING ALL THE TEAMS IN THEIR TOURNAMENTS. IT LOOKS AS THOUGH ASA ONLY WANTS FAST PITCH TEAMS. LAST ISSUE OF BALLS AND STRIKES IS ALMOST ENTIRELY GIRLS FAST PITCH (VERY LITTLE SLOWPITCH INFO).
NOT THAT THERE IS ANYTHING WRONG WITH FAST PITCH, BUT I DON'T PLAY.
I WILL ALSO NOT PLAY ASA SOFTBALL BECAUSE THEIR RULES ARE GETTING RIDICULAS. YOU HAVE TO CARRY A USSSA/NSA 1.20 BAT, AN ASA 98 BAT, AND ALSO A SR BAT IF YOU WANT TO BE COMPETITIVE.

GOOD BYE ASA. ENJOY THE MONEY YOU MAKE OFF OF FAST PITCH AND WHAT YOU CHARGE MANUFACTURERS TO TEST THEIR BATS.

READ THE LAST PARAGRAPH IN THE NSA CANADA ARTICLE.
"SOFBALL CONTINUES TO BE THE SAFEST SPORT IN NORTH AMERICA AND SOFTBALL HAS SEEN NO INCREASE IN SERIOUS BATTED BALL INJURIES"

SEEMS LIKE SOMEONE IS MAKING UP NEW WAYS TO MAKE MONEY UNDER THE PRETENCE OF INCREASED SAFETY.

Discussion: New ASA bat standard

ASA BAT STANDARDS FOR COMPOSITE BATS- CORRECT THE BAT MUST MEET THEIR 98MPH AFTER IT IS COMPLETELY BROKEN IN. WHAT THIS MEANS IS THAT THE BAT WILL HAVE TO COME FROM THE FACTORY AT ABOUT 91-92 MPH SPEC. (BY THE WAY A WOOD BAT IS ABOUT 92 MPH SPEC).
YOU WILL BE USING A BAT TO START OUT WITH THAT HAS LESS POP THAN A WOOD BAT. IT WILL IMPROVE TO THE 98MPH SPEC AFTER USING IT LONG ENOUGH.

BATS PURCHASED BEFORE JUNE WILL BE GRANDFATHERED IN UNTIL 2010 FROM WHAT I UNDERSTAND. IF YOU HAVE TO PLAY ASA I WOULD RECOMMEND GETTING ONE BEFORE THEN. THE COMBAT ANTI-VIRUS IS A GOOD ONE.

IT APPEARS THAT ASA IS GOING OFF THE DEEP END AS FAR AS SAFETY IS CONCERNED AND TAKING THE FUN OUT OF SOFTBALL. IT'S LIKE ANYTHING ELSE IF YOU WANT CHANGE WRITE LETTERS AND PROTEST.
LAST OPTION---DON'T PLAY ASA AND GET YOUR REC DEPARTMENTS ETC TO GO WITH USSSA, NSA, OR WHATEVER.

Discussion: Which one ?

THE WORTH LAUNCH 510 IS MANUFACTURED AT THE MIKEN PLANT. IT IS BASICALLY AN ULTRA II WITH A SLIGHTLY LONGER BARREL. IT ALSO HAS A DIFFERENT KNOB WHICH IS TAPPERED. THAT IS WHY IT FEELS LIKE A MIKEN ULTRA II.

Discussion: PALM SPRINGS SPRING NATIONALS

DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT FIELDS ARE BEING USED IN PALM SPRINGS? I UNDERSTAND THAT SOME OF THEM ARE NOT VERY GOOD AND ALSO THAT THE BIG LEAGUE FIELD OF DREAMS DOES NOT ALLOW THE ULTRA II. WE PLAY IN THE 60'S AAA DIVISION.
HOPEFULLY SSUSA WILL GET US INFO ON THIS BEFORE THE TOURNAMENT.
THEY ALSO HAVE NOT SET UP A HOST HOTEL AS OF YET. ANY IDEAS.

Discussion: Comosite bat ban for mid 2008 ?

ASA IS NOT GOING TO BAN COMPOSITE BATS. WHAT THEY ARE GOING TO DO IS A "ROLLER TYPE" PROCEDURE ON THE BAT WHICH WILL MAKE IT PERFORM AS IF IT WERE USED AFTER HITTING MANY SOFTBALLS. BASICALLY IT WILL MAKE THE BAT PERFORM AS IF IT WERE TOTALLY BROKEN IN.
MANUFACTURERS WILL PROBABLY HAVE TO DEADEN THE BATS SO THEY MEET THE 98MPH AFTER THEY ARE THOROUGHLY BROKEN IN FROM THE NEW "ROLLER PROCEDURE".
THIS BASICALLY MEANS YOU WILL HAVE A LOW PERFORMING BAT (91 OR 92 MPH) THAT WILL REACH ITS PEAK PERFORMANCE (98MPH) AFTER MANY HITS ON IT AND STILL PASS THE ASA 98MPH TEST.
