I do think that some of the umps were letting the pitchers go a bit too high.(13-15) They were generally consistant and that is all you can ask for but I do think that a lot of the umps need to check out what 12 feet really is. I know that it is a tough job...having to call the pitch moments after it is released.

It's not just the equipment!!! It has something to do with our AGE!!! Reactions are slower and healing is slower. I personally like to play and not have to sit out while I heal from some injury,...Just my two cents....

You know that the "Bat" and "Balls" wars have been going on as long as I have been playing softball(1970). Wood to Aluminum to thinner Aluminum and airplane Aluminum and doublewall Aluminum, etc.( Not to mention; cryogenics, bent handle, perforated, ceramics, etc.) Now it is carbon composites. It is never going to end with someone always trying to build a better mousetrap.....AND getting you to buy it!!!!

Discussion: BP/practice

That is why when we take Bp you have to hit a strike or you lose a turn. We make a game out of it and ridicule each other but it does make you hit anything close...just like in a game.

Discussion: BP/practice

We started a BP club in Northern Va. with two guys about 30 years ago...This is what we do : We put a screen up and put cones at the 5-6 hole and the 3-4 hole. We hit in groups of three or four and take sets of four swings into the designated holes. The whole group will hit every ball into the designated hole. You lose your swings to the next guy if you take a strike or foul the ball over the fence.( that's more for fun). My buddy and I show up rain or shine
because you have to play sometimes in "poor" conditions.
This helps my mindset in games because I too have already decided where I am going to hit the ball based on the defence. We also work on the power swing(sac. fly for the base hitters) as well. If some one outside our group wants to hit with us they have to use our system or we won't let them hit with us.....

Discussion: Todays game?

My thought here is that there must be more than ONE guardian of the "Holy Grail" of softball. If not we will all be held hostage to the dictates of ONE crazy man.

Does anyone else think that some of these discussions are taken over by a chosen few???? Is it possible to have an"adult"(as the president would say it)thread without the name calling?

M..If it was a cheap way to get on I think that batting averages would be higher.

Again...Way too much negativity....The battle between too live equipment and not live enough will go on forever. IT already has!!!!The insurance companies will eventually win out and we will play with whatever is left!!!!

Discussion: hitting the middle

I hope that no one takes this too hard but I do not want someone to apologize to me for hitting the middle. I will not do so if I hit the middle! I do not apologize to the SS if I hit it at him. I am trying to get a hit!!! The middle is a part of the game!!

Discussion: Player Poll

Records are mean't to be broken and rules change all the time....Why are some of you so concerned about all the small stuff???? Life is too short...Enjoy the game and the people who are still playing!!!!!!!!!!!!! If there is a rule that you can use to win use it... It would be stupid to not use the rules to your advantage...Some of you talk as if Moses brought the rules of the game down with the Ten Commandments.......Just a comment...........

Discussion: Player Poll

Why make a big deal about runners anyway...Who cares...It is a rule just like any other. Our team has guys that are good runners and that is one of the main reasons that we are successful...What is the harm?????I get a runner almost everytime I get on, even after an extra base hit...I have two knee replacements...At the very least by having runners it increases the number of people that can enjoy the game.

Discussion: Blowing up the middle in Senior Softball - are screens next???

I am a pitcher and I hit the middle sometime to get a hit. The middle is no different to me than any other spot on the field. I have never tried to hit anyone, pitcher included, and I would not expect anyone to try and hit me. And at the same time I do not want any player to avoid hitting the middle if they think that they can get a hit.

Discussion: why do we need seeding games

I think that seeding games are great! It gives teams time to let all their players state their case for starting in the DE part of the tournament as well as giving you time to get acclimated to the surroundings. I do think some consideration needs to be given to the schedule in the DE tournament so that some teams are not playing too many games in a single day.

Discussion: Stepping out of the batters box

Bruce is correct...There has not been an adjustment to the batter's box and maybe there should. To be honest with you I do not think that the call for stepping out of the box should be made at all...I don't see the advantage for the batter.
