Discussion: picher's safety equipment

Merry Christmas -- If you think of one's safety, what about hygiene? Who want's to use a face mask that someone else sweated all up or even spit all over? Shin guards would have to be sprayed between every inning, just like rental bowling shoes between every user.

Lots of interesting comments here. Just like pitchers have a choice to wear what they want, we have the right to choose an ASA, USSSA or a Senior bat. - Player25 is going to a gunfight, has just been polled and decides Senior bat. - Paco13 says he is a great line drive hitter but only uses a Senior bat because Player25 explained it for him. - I wonder if Mr. Manassas chooses to use a lessor bat so the normal guy can react? - curty says he is good hitter but hasn't said if he will use a lessor bat so his opponents will have more opportunities on defense just like he wants. He doesn't want to hurt a senior but survival dictates. - butch17 so, if the USSSA bats are for a lessor ball and you don't like a Senior bat, will you be choosing an ASA bat? -- Remember, the next time you go up to the plate -- it's your right to choose.

I went to 8 SSUSA tournaments this past season. Played a lot of games and watched a lot of games. Seems to me almost all the teams had 10-15+ senior bats in their dugouts. All our pitchers and opposing pitchers seemed to be using them. They seemed to think it was okay. Didn't matter which age division either.

Discussion: Is balanced softball more satisfying?

JohnBob; No-the Trump Stote isn't such a hot ball-The guy that's hitting the ball to me is over 60 and his skills have diminished too-No. maddog;Love the hot corner-with a 6-12 foot pitch a pitcher with mobility should be able to move 3-5 steps back. butch17;yes team-the final score determines.

This isn't league softball-it's Tournament. The best players-best teams-best equipment. There is a clear goal here- Best of the Best. And to think-I have never even talked to Einstein. Maybe some of you pitchers and 1st and 3rd baseman should only play Church leagues, etc. when your skills diminish. No matter where you ever played, some always outshine the others.

Just answer the question-like you insist so many others do. After that you can go backpeddle in front of the mirror at the Y and admire yourself some more.

Dirty, will you join a SSUSA team if they go easy on the bat/ball combo for you? You might be able to feed your EGO for another 30 or so years.

Discussion: Would it be acceptable to just make a pitching Mask and shin guards mandatory?

Bogie,I talked with you at the hotel in Lansing, how are doing? SSUSA should recommend masks, guards, protectors, etc. If the pitcher chooses not to use any then it should be mandatory that he-she sign a waiver.

I played NSA 3 nights a week last year. I was swinging a Super Freak and they used the .40/325's. It seemed like a nice combination. Is the .40/325 a limited flight compared to the .44/375? Thanks

Discussion: Quit your whining!

Coming from a very poor family -yes,my 8 brothers and I used rolled up socks and a mophandle for small games- now that I can afford some better equipment I'd like to use it. It's too bad some people need to police this board - there's probably lots of other ballplayers that would post their comments.

Well mad I have pitched-I am an infielder-I pitch in batting practices for seniors, asa and nsa- I know lots of kids who hit alot harder than most seniors with asa bats . Next: you don't care about your own team just yourself-now if you did care you would let someone pitch and cover the middle who's not slower now and whose reflexes are as good as they used to be- why does your team need to put themselves in a position not to do as good just to satisfy your ego so you can be the pitcher- butch17 & e4/e6: I'm sorry either one of you two haven't played enough softball to ever say it yourself or hear someone else say " hitting that ball is like hitting a sock "- duh!

Discussion: Quit your whining!

I've been in senior softball for 6 years now, and I'll quit tomorrow if we have to hit a sock. The balls we use -Trump stote .44 cor 375 psi ak-ss 375 thcc are okay. The senior bats are okay. The problem is not the pride of the hitter. It is the pitchers, 1st basemen and 3rd basemen who don,t have the mobility they used to have to make the plays like they used to. Time for these people to be catchers, AH's etc.. I'm not a home run hitter and I've hit one pitcher because he should not have been standing in the middle of the field knowing he should never pitch in the first place. You'd be a stupid bullfighter without any MOBILITY.
