Discussion: Hip Replacements

Gary` I to am looking at a total replacement, mine is a knee so not sure if this applies to hips.Asked my Dr.about playing again after surgery and he recommended not.I told him that I knew several players that had resumed playing and hia words were "the replacements are made to last about
15 years,they aren`t made for running,jumping,squatting,
etc.If You want to play You can, just expect to have the surgery again in 7-8 years".I know that this isn`t the answer that You wanted to hear, cause it`s sure not the one that I wanted either.Don`t know what I`m going to do,guess time and the surgery results will help me make up my mind. The worst part was my wife was also sitting in the room!Good Luck whatever You decide.

If you want to get a real expert`s opinion on how this is done I`d suggest that You ask either Bill Ruth or Gary Tharlson, they have been doing it for years.

Stoneman,
I would like to see it made mandantory for people using this web site to have to give their name, age bracket, and div.under the info section before being allowed to post on this board.I think some people get very brave with the words as long as they can remain in the shadows.

Hey Roger,
You act like what Ruth pulled is a surprise to You.Don`t You remember 2004when they were a Major team and got moved to AAA to win the USSSA world.Or how about 2002 when they won theMajor plus berth in Vegas and run ruled all the major teams there even with a 5 run spot, then one week later got moved down to majors in time for the SSWC in Phx.which they also won{big surprise} sounds like business as usual for Ruth to me!

It`s Thur.and so far it hasn`t rained today but they are predicting possible showers tonight.Possible showers tomorrow afternoon and possible showers on Sat.They just called and gave us our game times for Sat.but I`m sure glad that I`m not spending a bunch of money to fly in.The ground is saturated and if we do get more rain I don`t see any place for it to go.Hope the weather report is wrong because I`m getting cabin fever and a need to get my softball fix!

Danny,It`s been raining here in Phoenix for 6 days in a row, with rain predicted until Sat.night.All tournaments were washed out last week-end,as well as our Mon.night leagues. There is water standing on most of the fields that I have been past. This is very unusual and I sure hope that it quits pretty soon.We are supposed to play this next week-end but unless the weatherman is wrong it doesn`t look to promising.

Kof P,
Know exactly how You feel about these sandbaggers playing down and the directors letting them do it.Check out my posts from 11/7,8.and9.Had many good threads and some good suggestions on ways to help fix the problem.I personally wrote to Terry 2 different times and asked if he ever reads this board to get an idea what the players want.As of this date I still haven`t had a response of any kind from Terry or Fran.SO I`LL ASK IT HERE .ARE YOU SO FULL OF YOURSELF THAT YOU DON`T EVEN FEEL THAT IT IS NECESSARY TO RESPOND WHEN A MEMBER TAKES THE TIMETO WRITE TO YOU OR ARE YOU JUST THAT DAMN RUDE?

M.K. I agree with You that there are just to many teams sandbagging. These teams think that if they don`t win at least 80% of the games that they play they should be allowed to move down. You have some very valid points about teams playing under different names,mgrs.etc.I would also agree with stig52 that opposing teams should rate teams that they play against in tourneys. If the tournament directors were doingtheir jobs correctly they would rerate the stronger teams when thy sent in the results to the assoations headquarters, but apparently this is to much work.M.K. it`s probably not a problem in Major Plus but in the lower div.some teams will play in 1 qualifier and then just play local tourneys or play on several teams until it comes time for the Worlds and then show up again. The teams used to have to qualfy for World tourneys now you just pay your entry fee and load up.As I told terry in Vegas it`s impossible for a 3 man committee to rate teams across the country and hope to get it right. This last tournament was just another example of that.

Bruce always glad to hear from You.It`s funny but I brought up the same solution to Terry H.up in Vegas. My solution is to have player cards maybe Red forAA,Blue forAAA,White for Majors andGold for Major+.At the beginning of a tourney the mgr.turns in the cards. If a team has 2 or more players from a higher Div.they play in that higher division.1st ,2nd ,and 3rd place gets the respective players a certain # of points such as 3,2,1.When a player reaches a certain number of points he is moved up a Div.That would stop players from playing on different teams in different divisions.I know that there would be some details to be worked out,and in the beginning it would take some hard work to set it up,but at least it would be a start to everyone having a level playing field.

In checking on the softball ratings page,I find no rating for any team called HMR in the 55 Div.However,I do find a rating for Frank n Stein under the Major Plus division. Also the Dawgs are listed as Major and the Old Dogs are rated as AAA.To make the picture complete Tharaldsons just won the NSA Worlds in August beating3 of the 6 teams that were playing in the Major division in Las Vegas this past week -end and the next week got moved down to AAA in time for Plano and Las Vegas worlds. Is it just me or do any of You others think that there is something funny going on?I talked to Terry at the tourney and was given a song and dance about teams being on a watch list etc.It seems, to me at least, that the people who need to be watched are the ones that continue to let these teams move up and down.No wonder there were only 6 teams in the Major and 30 or so in the AAA.
