lb16- revised schedules are already posted to the tourney page for FL and TN.

Since you mentioned weather, I will take this opportunity to remind folks that SSUSA doesn't cancel based on forecast. All weather related decisions are made at the field, at game time.

Zac7- Here's another reason why the SUBJECT TO CHANGE language is in place.... teams dropping out on Monday because they don't like the schedule, their start times, or who they are scheduled to play.

With that, I will be revising the Spring National and Music City schedules.

The schedule for Nashville is being built right now. We had some late adds, late drops and roster submittals that impacted team classifications. All of those are beyond my control. The draft schedule that I built a few days ago has been trashed a couple of times now, but I expect to have it in SSUSA's hands for review & posting late tonight. Patience is appreciated.

Hotel seekers.....
There are a few changes to field assignments- Here's the latest information (as of 4pm, EST)-

CANE RIDGE-
40 Major
40 AAA
50 Major Plus
50 Major
50 AAA
60 Major Plus
60 Major (change)

CEDAR HILL-
55 Major (change)
55 AAA
60 AAA
65 AAA
70 Major

Neither 55 Major, nor 60 Major will have the 8am games on Saturday. So, if you booked on the "wrong" side of town you have 8 days and at least 90 extra minutes on game day to get where you need to be on 3/18. Tim

There are still a couple of teams that are trying to get their roster / rating squared away, but these are the TENTATIVE FIELD ASSIGNMENTS FOR NASHVILLE- (reminder that TENTATIVE means "subject to change"

CANE RIDGE-

50 Major Plus

50 AAA
55 Major
60 Major Plus

CEDAR HILL-

The answer to the next question is- AFTER we get rosters finalized and AFTER I'm able to complete the Spring National schedule, which begins a day before the Music City Classic.

Still Got Wheels- 4ish years ago, SSUSA moved to a system where 1 umpire is used during the first few days and 2 umpires are used on championship day. While not ideal, it is the result of a declining umpire population. I believe that's how it worked at the ISSA, too. There were 3 senior tournaments in central FL this past weekend with 300+ teams on the field at the same time. I believe that FL USSSA also had part of their challenge cup going on.

I'm aware that the other associations had some shortages and / or no-shows this past weekend. It happens. SSUSA used a mix of locals and traveling umpires from 6 states to minimize potential problems.

If you want to talk about specific situations or calls, send me an email with details of what, when & where. I'll try to look into it for you- Tim@SeniorSoftball.com

Discussion: 4 Game or 5 Game Guarantee??

Original question-
Are brackets changing from three game guarantee to double elimination style?
Answer- Yes. In a 4gg event, the standard format would be 2 seed games with teams advancing to a double elimination bracket.

wdodge22- My understanding is that the SSUSA World Championships will continue on as a 5gg event.

Discussion: 4 Game or 5 Game Guarantee??

In addition to working at SSUSA hosted events, I also host a number of my own tournaments each year. Costs are up for nearly everything and change of some kind is required to remain profitable. I'm speaking for myself here but suspect SSUSA is experiencing something similar.

Park rental costs, travel costs, ball costs, awards costs, shipping costs, staff labor costs- Most of these increased AFTER 2022 entry fees were posted. I had to eat the diminished margins (and sometimes outright losses on tournaments).

It's a good bet that SSUSA's move from 5gg to 4gg had as much to do with getting a handle on expenses as anything else. Looking at the softball landscape it appears that SSUSA isn't alone on this one. I've seen other Associations offer fewer games, increased entry fees or both for 2023.

Couple of comments from a guy that has been working at SSUSA's Tournament of Champions for longer than the ISSA season opener has existed.

In it's 17th year of partnering with Polk County / Central Florida Sports, the SSUSA Tournament of Champions has been held in February 16 times. 16 of the 17 events have been played in early February with the lone exception coming in 2021. If you're looking for a reasonable explanation, here you go- Super Bowl LV in Tampa. Keeping the traditional dates would have presented a financial hardship for TOC participants that needed to book airfare, hotels and rental cars.

Roughly 6 years ago, ISSA began holding it's own tournament in Florida. They gave it a similar name, scheduled it a few weeks prior to the SSUSA event, offered it in the next town over and even incorporated many of the same attractions (skills challenges, all-star games, Wounded Warriors).

Just 1 year ago, ISSA moved it's tournament into February. It's unclear why they chose to do so, or why they chose to schedule it on top of the FHC 60s tournament (Feb 5-6, 2022). In my view, there is a pattern here.

Asking SSUSA to justify how or why it plans the Original Tournament of Champions the way it does is short sighted in my view. These questions should be asked of the other guy.

Discussion: Radisson Airport Hotel Phoenix, Winter Worlds

Summary: There was a mistake on your bill. When made aware of the issue, the hotel staff looked into the matter and made the necessary adjustments.

Was there any benefit to putting the hotel (our partner) on blast in a public forum then labeling the staff as "stupid"? Answer: No.

Perhaps, people could work on hitting the 4 hole if the middle man is favoring the SS side of the bag. Perhaps, people could work on hitting balls down the lines.

Discussion: Session 1 Results Winter Worlds

I was the TD for Winter Nationals. With the hurricane and daily doses of sideways rain there were multiple changes to the schedules, including some on notebook paper. At the end, I dropped a discombobulated file in the mail while sprinting to the airport for a Sunday night flight to PHX. Not an excuse. I'm just letting you know why you aren't seeing the info you're looking for (yet). Tim
