Discussion: TOC

This was my first trip to Florida and the TOC.
To my temmates and coaches great job. I'm proud to be a member of this them.
Many don't see me as an emotional individual, however we dealt with a lot this trip. Making the victory all the more rewarding. It's a pleasure being a Black Hack.
I want to say to the Steel Dawgs you guy are a quality team with supportive fans. Great effort.
I'd like to say thanks to Fran, Dave and the staff at the TOC. Dealing with the weather and having to make all of the adjustment due to the weather.

Many of you in the softball community know my coach Ernie Lopez, of the California Blackhawks. Please lift him up with your prayers. Last Thursday/ Friday he suffered a heart attack and had quadruple bypass surgery. He is recovering well with his family at his side. Players and friends have visited him and are providing support to Camille, his wife. He's a class guy and loves the game. Please, keep him and his family in your thoughts and prayers.

I apologize as I was confusing you with some one else. You did some good research. Knowing the other offenders of the rule doesn't really matter to me. I don't feel guilty about a thing. I felt I was defending my team and teammates as our coach plays by the rules as it sounds like yours team also does. I don’t want the standings changed as we loss on the field. But what it took top beat us was questionable. For the teams that play by the rules, Most respect. Those looking for and edge around the rules it will eventually catch up to them. Hopefully we will play you in the future. I wish you and your teammates the best. Thank-you for the clarification. Again I apologize for the confusion.
Dirty
No we weren't miserable back then we just played. However the power that be have made various levels of play to increase participation over the years. For the Senior level; I feel there should only be 3 AA, AAA and Major+. Which will increase team numbers and maybe increase the bracket and get yourself and other that feel like you to again participate in the tourney game out side your own backyard? What do you think?
Yes cheater need to be held accountable, be it bat shaving, or violation of rules. How can a ballplayer feel good about a game if it take cheating to win as no accomplishment is achieved.
It’s a simple game lets play.

Mad dog

Let's set the record straight! There was a protest made. But it was after the Cal Cup. My team was involved. From the team players prospective we had the victory in our hand even though they loaded up; errors prevented us from holding the top seed on Saturday. Came back Sunday and forced a second game in the championship. It showed us the metal within ourselves to succeed.
Duke
In Reno we played with the team that we start the season with and some players didn't participate due to injuries. We had no player on the roster that were listed as Major or Major +. Mind you, YEARS, ago they may have been, but presently not. We ran the table undefeated because of the effort we have put in to prepare for the season. Your statement "Now that team can see how it is when the tables are turned. LOL!" Is a Crock! We show up we play whoever is in the bracket after all we are all 55yrs old or older. If you look at our roster we are balanced with guys that are 55 – 60+. Get real! Sounds to me you didn’t like getting beat by us in the meeting we had this season. Put the whining towel away. Why is it when a team puts in the work to get better and to progress in the program individuals want to bag on them? When they move us up after 2 tourney we didn't complain. (The rule states after 3 victories teams are to be moved.) We put it on the field and our coach added players to replace the ones that were injured or decided to leave the team because they didn't want to play at a higher level. During the season we practice and work to get better as a team. When we move to AAA two solid players were added. Both played for another team in Reno.Who is the Major+ player that's been on our team all season? Name the position. So before you add to the rumor mill get the facts right.

Discussion: Lack of Player Participation

I play in the Stanislaus County league, in Northern Ca., which is unique, due to th e vast number of tourney players involved at various levels and ages. The league membership is solid and player joing senior ball or transitioning out of the game. It has peaks and valleys as reflected by the economy. It has a rookie division which allows players 47 yr old and up to participate, 55 and over division, and the 60 and over divisions. Each team is formed through a draft after a 4 week vewing of participants. You can play down if your in the older division, which many do. Player which play travel ball are on teams and are on teams all over Nor Cal. I think the positive thing the leagues does is it allows players that want more the one game a night to do so by having a sign up sheet for players that will allow them to play on teams that are short on a given night. The league comissioner then puts name in a hat, drawn and put on teams. This promotes greater participation and allows for player seeking to get involved in USSSA to be seen by coaches and player. Word gets out and player get an opportunity. Players also provide info as to what team in NCSSA are looking for players and also link them to the website. Another thing which promotes involvement and greater enjoyment is no standings are kept other than by player and certin teams no awards are offered other than voting for Hall of Fame members and the annual picnic for players and their families. This kepts the game the game. We use whatever bats we want 44 core balls and No PPR or limits on HRS. It is all about playing the game and enjoying it with other of a like mind. Winning is fun, but having a good workout, working on your game and building friendships is the focus. Myself this league has provided more opportuunities for me than when I played flatbelly ball. There are many ways to increase participation, however we as players have to veiw things out side the box.

First, to all of the senior softball community Happy Holidays.
Joe your thought create discussion Dirty will be himself. Making statements about senior softball bats, ball, and number of teams in a bracket, along with his focus on you. It is his game. If he was willing to participate he might regain the love of the game. I have a different take on things. Joe I agree that if Dirty slams a thought it is worth discussing, but not always is the thought the best thing for senior ball. I thought this was a discussion borad, but it appears to have bcome become a litter box. I would like this borad to get back to the orignal purpose"Tournament players discussing the game and more ideas on its' betterment." Joe consider this for a momment. Post your Thoughts and let the community discuss it for several days before adding to the original thought. Dirty I for one don't care about the e-mails you've recieved from Joe or any other indidivuals, that is between you two. From my seat you both have bickered consistently for the past few years to no avail. If you don't like what's posted fine.I think the community is tired of your fued. Dirty ou don't have creditability with most of us, so move on. Both of you need to let others share their thoughts, you've stated your possitions. The recording is tiresome Dirty you admittedly you've stated you use the senior bats, aren't you being inconsistent and doing what your accusing other of. Why not participate and enjoy the game we all learns as kids. Give us all a rest and let the community speak for a change instead of repeating the same drivel. Both of you need to stop the name calling and focus on what's really important to all of us. "THE GAME".
Joe I know you will process my suggestion. Dirty, If you sling some stuff my way I have a rain coat.

Just DON'T RESPOND it isn't worth it. Einstein you know I don't always agree with you on your topics. Keep posting I know the ball player you are as witnessed by many of us in Nor Cal. Paco He look Like Einstein it not hard to find him on the field and at tourneys. Everyone has the right to say what on your mind but DON'T DON'T get hooked by Dirty's game.

Discussion: Sugestions on running tournaments

Dave/ Elizabeth
The system let me in. Thanks for your help.

First of all I haven’t posted that much this year as there is a lot of negativity and name calling (Dirty and his crew) Along with beating the same old issue about balls & bats. Everyone is entitle to their opinion, but if you don’t like it that much don’t play go learn to play golf and the outcome is all on you.

I think this past weekend's tourney in Vegas was run well for the most part. There is always going to be something that individuals aren't happy with. The only concern I feel needs to be address were the lighting on the Astro turf fields at Shadow Rock. There were very bad shadow/dead spots in center field, which made it hard to see the ball. We as seniors shouldn’t be playing after 7 p.m. if fields are available.
Secondly
barrym
I'm sorry you were injured. I was the guy on the other field that the Paramedics checked out. It wasn’t a heart issue; it was a breathing issue due the effort I was putting forth in the outfield. I felt I was able to continue once I got my breath, but my coach sat me down to make sure I was ok. I appreciate him doing so as he cares about his players as other coaches do. Playing at altitude has its effect on everyone and it got me this time. I Thought the Paramedics got there pretty quick, not knowing they had originally came to address your concerns. I hope your doing better, I am. The seasons over and now its time to reflect and prepare for the TOC and next season. What’s done is done. Suggestions make it better not complaints. It’s how you present it.
Stoneman
It was great seeing you again and taking about the game.
Have Happy Holidays to all of the senior softball community. See you on the field.

I will be using Merced next year for tourney as stated above. 3 fields available At joe Herb and one more At Berisconni Park at the north east end of town.If there is a high interest then (24+ teams)I would use the Atwater fields.
FYI
The Stanislaus Sluggers didn't travel to the world or St. George. Quicksilver went to St. George and earned Medals. The other 4 went to Phoenix.
We didn't go to the World this year due to injuries suffered in the Vegas World Master tourney. Trying to get back on track. Did well in Pleasanton a couple weeks ago. Now gettng ready for Winter world in Vegas.

Gentlemen
The first of October I held a tourney in Merced, with 6 of the top teams in Nor Cal. (1)5 Spot,(2)Eastbay Oldies, (8)Stanislaus Slugger, (15)Conklin Brother (17)No Dice,(19)Quicksilver They used it as a tune up for the World in Phoenix and for the Huntsman Games. Contact the teams that played thru link on the NCSSA website link for teams & rooster. They too can provide info on the City of Merced, parks, balls and rule variances, ect.
I would love for this Tourney to be a venue for a Nor Cal- So Cal event. I would use the ranking systems of Nor Cal, Senior Softball Summit Rankings from all of the Associations to bracket teams. The only obstacle I see is the registration fees when held in north or south. I would make the Nor Cal fee as a part of the entry fee. Then there is no issue other than bragging rights. I plan to hold 3 tourneys next year it would be good to play in an early event. Lets' get this going! For more info contact me at (209)617-2824

Discussion: Balls in Manteca tourney this weekend

Angus
Made a major mistake on Saturday's schedule and had to correct. I think fixed it as best as possible. It will be a fun weekend.
Taits
They have made a lot of improvement at the park. I think the players are going to like it. I’m not going to say bad things about other TD's. I just want to have an event that teams will come and enjoy themselves. As a player I look at the things that bother me at tourneys and try to improve upon it. I use to do the flat belly tourney up until about 8 years ago. Too much drama. I would just like to get things going for NCSSA further south in the Valley. Had a So Cal team contact me but didn't have a bracket for them.
We played in Vegas over the weekend. Had a few injuries one guy is out for the season with a broken ankle. Not going to world. We've had a very good season thus far. God willing. We will heal and get back in the game.

Discussion: Balls in Manteca tourney this weekend

As one of the new TD for NCSSA I pounded the internet sending out the flyer for my tourney this coming weekend (10-3&4-09) to play. I obtained field in Merced at Joe Herb Park 3 field with 3 other field available. I was able to field a bracket of 5 at first. I now have a 6 team bracket, due to fast thinking by one of the disappointed coaches who called me in Las Vegas this weekend to enter. (His team played in my May tourney). See you this weekend Angus It's going to be a good bracket as NCSSA's # 1&2 teams will play against 4 others in the top 17.
I guess some teams like throwing away money? Maybe its’ time to give the new guy a chance. We'll be using good balls, Rule knowledgeable umpire, provide appropriate awards, befitting the number of teams entered. It will be a comfortable weekend with a HI of 85 on Saturday and 72 on Sunday with light clouds perfect ball playing weather. I going to try and ensure that the teams and their families have a positive visit to Merced Ca. Hotels and restaurants are 5 to 10 minutes from the park. The City is even allowing RVs to remain on site Saturday night. This is a great tune up for SSUSA World or St George.
I plan to keep this date for next year. Teams from Nevada, Oregon & Washington I will pay your NCSSA registration fee if you come to play in one of my event.
Taits How’s it going?

Glad you came up to Turlock this weekend. Did you get hooked up with a team? It's good to discuss with a fellow player issues of concern and the positives of the game, NCSSA and SSUSA, even if we at times we disagree. Our bracket was very competitive this past weekend. The Blue Jays have our number is seems. Had to be visitors(needed 12runs to win the tourney)against Game On, loss by 1. 3-2 for the weekend. Game on won the bracket. I can't remember the guys name that swing with one arm (has two arms)and crushes the ball. You don’t see that too often. The team is getting ready for the Cal Cup. Weather was great high 90's but this weekend it will be 100+ in the foothills. We will be in Tuolumne/ Sonora. I didn't get a chance to talk with Einstein about a couple of his post on the Board. Did you talk with him? I’m sure we will cross paths in the coming weeks.

The changes in Nor Cal have been for the betterment of the game IMO. This year they voted down the PPR and instituted sliding on the bases vs. the run through. I think this was the way to go. I'd say that about 20-35% of the teams do play Medal and Jewelry tourneys. It might be one major event a year but still they make the effort to travel. Your right for 65-80% the teams Nor Cal events are their major tourneys. It however links player to teams that play on travel teams. I think that with this being true some of the T.D.’s have upgraded their awards in NCSSA this year. This is a positive return for future events. Hopefully this will encourage teams to come play from out of the area. They will be pitted against quality teams at their level of play. Example of another bracket for this weekend
Advance construction
5 spot
Eastbay Oldies
Old A's
MTC55
Old Dawgs
The wood and Jawood or any other teams could you see your team competing in this brackets. The competition get teams that travel ready for the SSUSA events Check out the web site NCSSA (Nor Cal Senior Softball Association) Look under scheduled for the upcoming events and at the Ranking list.

You're right Nor Cal has a lot of positives and being able to play from Feb. to early November is fun. Weather wise on the coast mid 70s to 90s and central valley 50s to 105+ depending on playing north or south. If you team comes to the Cal Cup Look me up or we might meet up in Phoenix. I’m with the Blackhawks. Battle on and good luck to you also the rest of the season.
