Discussion: Best Hitter list

Homerun Bill was at Sunland Village this morning to hit. Could not get the ball out of the infileld, his swing looked like that of a 90 year old. Found out later that his wife dragged him to a 90 minute hot-yoga class and he could barely move....LOL

Discussion: New Bats

1. The proper way to break in a new bat?
>> take some old balls, soak them in water overnight and then use them while wet to hit with - messy but it works well.
2. Is the new Combat DA Bomb worth the money?
>> you can find Combats on sale at many places on line
3. Is it a durable bat for batting practice and games?
>> if we are talking about the Anaconda bat - better than the U2 - if we are talking about the USSSA da bomp - no

Discussion: Who is your 'best hitter'

Second the motion for the best hitter in Az. He is truly feared by every team he plays, walked most of the time, launchs 330ft bombs or rocket shots and does not even play tournament ball.
Apart from billy, whom just might be one of the best nationally I would like to also like to include a left handed hitter back home in Minn. He has a slap-like swing that puts him on 98% of the time. He is almost a sure hit to any field and with great speed (age 62 ?). I have often wondered if that slap-swing is even legal.
Anyway, that\'s my two cents worth.

Discussion: Do bat warmers really work ??

Not that is matters here in Arizona, we really need bat coolers in the summer but do bat warmers really work. How about on composite bats, I was told it is silly to use a warmer on a composite bat.

Discussion: Rip It Elite Question, Re: Sanctioning by SSSUA

Your are right. CE is the OEM that makes bats for both compaines.
Rip It and Combat are two very different in product, market share and design.
Rip It is very active in college and girls fastpitch. They make other equipment besides bats and are moving fast in the retail market including the big box retail chains. Which by the way is very impressive for a new start up.
My understanding is the deal with the senior elite is a contract issue between CE and Anaconda about the 1.20 which needs to go on the bat. Really nothing to do with passing a test.
My guess is Rip It has this whole issue under control and with their expanding dealer base once they lanch the sale numbers will be huge.

Discussion: Elite Senior ??

Called Bill Gately today and was told the whole issue with the senior elite yellow bat is a contract at the factory with anohter company. He also said they have anohter way to go but cannot give any details right now.
There was more but if I told you I would have to shoot you.
I also asked him about doing a DVD for seniors since his clinics have been so popular here. Maybe this summer was the answer to that one. I think they are very busy with girls softball right now. Have not seen 'Bill out on the field much. Anyway thats the news I can share.

I am starting to see that if I say a word about anything but a Miken or Combat, which I understand help support this board, I should keep my opinion to myself.
I am so sorry that said the 'R' word to within this controlled think tank.

So our opinions as legaue matter not, unles we talk about Miken or Combat.....I will keep my Rip It thank you....

Today in the Chandler senior league. All ASA balls and bats. A large group of players, our team, thier team and guys waiting for the next game watched a homerun. A few of the guys when out, using a tape put the ball ( which hit a power box) at 348.2 ft, remember this is ASA, not U2. We even douple checked the bat, it was a stock Rip It senior black ASA bat.
So we here would like to put an end to this ongoing topic and state, the best bat on the market for ASA is the black Rip It.
You would agree too if you saw this shot. Besides it is the most used bat out there.
So that is our offical statement......done.

Discussion: Buzzard shame

We just got back for the Chandler fields, our team pitched to Billy all but once, bottom of 6, 2 outs, runners on 2 & 3....the walk was ok with all, just a smart play and nothng more.
Of course he did pop out 3 or 4 but we did get him out 1 or 2 times. So no big deal.
The real reason I am positng is to make an offical statement from a unoffical group.
guys, we measured with a tape a homerun today ( ASA bat - ASA ball) at 348.2 ft (it hit a power box). That is the longest ball I have ever seen. We even douple checked the bat, a stock Rip It Senior ASA bat.
We are now completly convinced that this is best ASA bat, period.

And that all I am going to say about that.

Discussion: Buzzard shame

Chandler, Az
Chandler senior saturday league
Buzzard team from Fountain Hills vs Rip It seniors
ASA league played on fields with 310 ft fence
heavy winds blowing left accross field, almost in from left
1st game of the season

Bill G (homerun Bill) comes up and they walk him every time, both games. The umpire complains, the teammates complain yet the Buzzards show that many of us seniors are taking this game to a new low. Man-alive guys, this is just a game, not the world series. We grip about bats way to much, we walk guys with more skill than we have and most of us don't even remember half of it the next day.
Did we work hard all of our lives so we can retire and act like little boys again.
On a bright note we noticed that BG was also pitching and did not walk the other player 'just because' - so sportsmanship is not forever gone. Maybe the Buzzard team will learn a lesson here. I am not part of either team, just saw parts of this from the other field and heard about it later.
Point here is, let's just play and have fun, let everyone have a chance to show their skill and maybe we retire from softball with more happy memories.

Discussion: Hitting DVD

Does anyone know of a hitting DVD for senior softball. One that is talks about the needs and certain aspects for us older guys that want to hit like a 25 year old.

I really liked the clinic by Bill Gately we attended but seem to forget half the items talked about. So I though a DVD would be a good idea.

Discussion: Remedy for Altered Bats

Hit the gap; just kidding guy, thought I would put some humor into this....heavens, I don't even own a yellow bat or play in tournaments. Just our ASA senior ball. I am happy to say that in our east valley league I have not heard of anyone using a alter bat, not even once that I konw of.
I would like to try one those yellow bats or even a U2 sometime, yet if won't help me at all - stil can't hit....

Al, was that the one that landed on the basketball court in field 2 at skyline. Had to be 340ft or so. Not bad for a greek god (that was funny).
We need a message board just for Az senior softball. Guys, any ideas.

We hit the AV and liked it, however it was a harder bat to swing than the Rip It. Maybe the balance and the flex, I understand that the Rip It is designed just for seniors and it shows. So both are very good and just a personal choice.

I am not an expert like most of you on this board. There are about sixty players here in Arizona that cast a vote for the Rip It Senior (black) ASA bat.
We like the swing balance, has the same or more pop than the ORG Freak, overall a great bat.
We are also very impressed with the company, very much a class act with attendtion to the senior market. Do not want this to be plug, I think the amount of guys using the bat speaks volumes.......

Discussion: walk or pitch

This league are ASA which I think is 6-12ft arch. My team will not pitch him outside for fear of a shot up the middle. We try to keep it high and inside but we most of the time our team is lucky just to get it over the plate. We have gotten him out before with him going after a bad pitch. Today our pitch sliped and threw flat down the middle.
The ball should be coming down any minute now....
