Injections for the short term, stretching for the long term. I bought special Nike brand shoes for pf. They work wonders, New Balance makes a lot of shoes too. You can tape the bottom of your foot in an X pattern for when you play. Make sure the middle of the X is in the pain area- tape it as tight as you can. Look online- they will show you how. Also, freeze a full water bottle and roll you foot over it to reduce the swelling between games. Don't wear sandals or flip flops too often, buy the Nikes' and wear them. Look up downward facing dog stretch and try that. Works for me and a few of my guys.

Discussion: SoCal -Oxnard Rookies 50+ AAA is breaking up- lots of talent available

Due to numerous injuries in our outfield, we have decided to split up because we can not field a competitive 50s team due to a lack of quality 50+ outfielders. Our older guys are moving to 55 AAA- Oxnard Rookies Hard Tens, and some of our younger are hoping to be picked up by a competitive team. The Desert Dawgs 50 M have already picked up 1 guy and are possibly trying to pick up another. There are still more than a few high quality guys available. 4 guys that legitimately hit .700 + the last 2 years.

There is a 40+ league in Oxnard on Tuesdays, it just ended. There are 3 40+ teams in it. If you are looking to play tourneys, there are 2 teams from the Ventura area. R&R run by Mark B. and the old Sharks ran by Frank M.

Gary33- look at a casino bus trip, Reds game, or to the race track. Some places have fundraising buses- you just have to fill them up. Our buses hold 55 people @ $30 each and it has a bath room. The casino ( Harrahs') charges us $400 for gas- and everything else is profit for us- $1250 per bus.

Has anyone experienced a knee replacement surgery recently ? Or both ? I wanted to know what I can expect for recovery time ? Physical therapy ? Is there anything I can do before- certain exercises or stretches, what I should be eating more of in mydiet, etc.... Discussion: A Few Thoughts From the Hemet Ca.Tournament Qualifier

The Oxnard Rookies were eliminated from the Hemet Ca qualifier yesterday by forfeit. The coach of LAF, who we were supposed to play @ 12pm threw a childish tantrum because the "directors" had decided to change the starting time of our game. The problem was they neglected to tell us of the change. The directors excuse was:

1) it is up to each teams' manager to check the board for updates and start times:
We did that- but they had 2 boards, and only updated 1 of them- and of course we
checked the wrong one. But of course that's our fault. Next time I'll ask how many boards are in the complex.

The directors said they told 1 of our players about the change- if you told a player that wasn't the manager, why do teams have managers ? I know my guys, they would of told me right away- so YOU ARE LYING !! Anyone who has ever played against us knows how close we are as a group- ALL 20 OF US !!! We were playing at the complex when the Desert Dawgs dropped out- why didn't you walk over to our game and tell us then ? We returned to play @ 9:30am the next morning, why didn't you tell us to stay on the field ? You let us leave the field and people went back to check out of the hotel and pick up loved ones who didn't attend the first game- because no one notified us of the changes, which they knew about the day before. You had my cell number- I know that because because you texted me on Friday.

Don, for $350 I expect you to make more of an effort to keep people informed- $350 should of bought me someone walking 50 yards to tell me the bracket was changing- OR update BOTH boards. That was pure laziness. All I am getting from you is lip service, that was utterly pathetic. Giving us a 10 minute deadline when we are 15 minutes away.

We really take offense to you, LAF #13, LAF SS, and the LAF coach to suggest that we could put 5 injured players on the field to start the game. 3 pulled hammies, 1 pulled rib cage muscle, and most of all- our guy recovering from brain surgery.

@ the Coach of LAF- Senior Softball is a little more about stepping onto the field and deciding games between the lines- not lobbying for a victory that way. You acted like some AA Team by taking that route. Thank you to the LAF guys that wanted to play- we respect you guys !!! @ the Nighthawks- Don great game !!! You guys are awesome, see you again- but probably not in Hemet unless we absolutely have to. @ both Mike's- Desert Dawgs & TG Thunder- nice to see you guys again !!

Last year a California team actually took 4th, Who Cares. Top Gun and the Rookies tied for 9th too.

This year watch out for the Desert Dogs, Grants Posse, and South Bay 50's- when these teams have their whole squad, bring your A game- but there are other dangerous teams, such as: Rookies, Team Viagra, Top Gun Thunder, etc... These teams normally go to Worlds.

But, as ham24 mentioned, watch out for those 3 teams especially Chicken Coop- and Rio Grande from New Mexico who won the Western.

Discussion: Talking Trash

There are few people that haven't learned the necessary social skills to properly interact with the rest of us. The situation really doesn't matter, these same people will be socially inept in all aspects of life.

To all of you that are merely joking and "playing" mind games with me, I love it- let's have a beer together. To the few bad apples- I'll pray for you.

I am just happy to be alive and breathing and still able to play this game I love. Thank you

@ Joncon- when I used to pitch a lot of U Trip, I would actually release the ball at my kneecap or lower. I didn't have any problem hitting the strike zone. Some of the pitchers , I used to see, would barely clear the ground with their knuckles.

There is a new game out here called Outlaw Softball- modified pitch- above the front knee is the lower limit. And the pitchers can hit the plate !!!!

Discussion: Pitching Arc Limits

Thanks Mad Dog, that's all that I am saying.

I am from Southern California, We play SCMAF rules only !! So. Cal Municipal Athletic Federation- arc limits are 6 feet - 16 feet. Senior rules are 6 feet- 12 feet.
The umpires around here, the ones who are also certified to do Senior Softball, call a lot more illegal low pitches than high ones. The umpires in Reno, that I talked to who were calling more illegal high pitches, started umpiring in USSSA.
When my team plays, the umpires that are "pinching us" on upper arc limit, are allowing the extreme lower limit strikes.
Conversely, when we are allowed to pitch above 12'- our perception, those umpires usually call more lower illegal pitches.
There seems to be more umpires of the USSSA variety, who SEEM to prefer a lower strike zone, that's all that I am saying. But, being from SoCal, we aren't allowed to pitch that way in OUR leagues ( locally).

So, I would like to see a pitching limit rule change to reflect what I see at the larger Senior Tournaments.

Discussion: Pitching Arc Limits

@Gary, my clue is that I am 6 feet tall and I have umpired for over 22 years. I was a certified senior softball official last year, as a pitcher I have continually analyzed pitches from the umpire position for decades. I have pitched USSSA, ASA, NSA, ISA, and SCMAF. My point is that each umpire calls their game based on his/ her regional association. My home town sends 6-8 umpires to many of the Southwestern Tournaments, we play 6 feet to 16 feet limits here in town. Whenever they umpire a team that plays ASA, the ASA Team takes exception with the strike zone because they pitches at higher limits. A USSSA umpire lets pitchers throw at lower limits because that's what they are used to calling. It's a fact.
@ Stick8- Exactly. We are taught to position our hat brim to what we deem to be 12 feet, don't move our head, and anything that goes over the brim is illegal. It takes some practice, but it is so easy to be consistent.

This is getting to be old very quickly !! The umpires aren't calling the lower "illegal" pitch at 6 feet, as the rule stipulates. It is more like 4 feet. So why don't we just change the pitching limits to reflect what the umpires are actually calling.

When we played in Menifee, Ca. the limits were 6 to 14 feet. When we played in Laughlin, it was 4-9 feet. We just got back from Reno, it was 3- 8 feet.
So I say to go with the majority and call it at 4- 8 feet.
