Discussion: Unloader Knee Brace

I started to wear one last year. I am in the same boat as you, lefty bob. I am trying to delay knee replacement after 2 ACL surgeries on my left knee. I have painful arthritis. The loader brace definitely reduces the pain. I find I can run in it, although the quick movements, side-to-side, for example, are a little tougher. I play the outfield and seem to be okay running straight ahead, but when a quick change of direction is needed I feel a little cumbersome due to the brace. I met another guy with the same issues and he has been wearing the brace and playing for 10 years. He's over 60 so the game is a little slower there.
Good luck with it. Hope this helps.

Discussion: Evaluation fo Dudley Senior Bats

I purchased a new one in Vegas at the Worlds in October and the bat was awesome right from the first swing. I know 3 or 4 other guys who bought the bat and had the exact same experience as I. I am really surprised to hear about the "dud". The bottom line with all these bats is durability - that will be the key. If the bat is durable and doesn't crack after 300 swings, then to me it is a success. I have cracked approximately 15 bats over the past 4 years of all makes and models, so no one manufacturer has a heads up over the pack, in my opinion. Hopefully Dudley has figured it out. We will see. But I expect to see lots of people swinging this bat next year. The jump off the bat on line drives is ridiculous and the distance is as good as the other senior bats from Miken, Combat, Reebok et al.

Discussion: Texas State Championships - How were the fields and other Facilities?

The fields were very poor compared to Kiest Park in Dallas. What I found more insulting was they actually went through our bags as we entered the park. The concession prices were high. Yes, it was hot and that made for a difficult day on Saturday, but that complex is no where near as nice as most others that we have played on before. The outfields were bumpy in some areas. The highway noise and the trains going by made it the loudest place we have played as well. Especially on Field 1.
All in all, it was a disappointing facility, especially compared to Kiest Park.

Discussion: 2 piece Ultra broke after 6 games..... extremely disappointed

I bought a balanced Miken 2 piece from Corky in Austin in April and so far I too am extremely disappointed in it. It has no pop, certainly nothing like the Black or Gray Ultra 2's. I have about 80-100 swings on it between games and BP and have seen no improvement. I don't know if it has a break-in period. I sure hope so and I get some improvement. I would advise anyone not to get this bat.

I think having an 11th fielder is an outstanding idea. I have felt that way since I started playing 6 years ago. It should be left to the teams as to whether they want to add an infielder or outfielder. Each team has different strengths and weaknesses so they should decide where they want to add the defender. There should be no restriction on where the extra fielder wants to stand. It would make the game better for sure.

Discussion: Miken's defective bats

I'm shocked to read about several people who have actually had warranty replacements from Miken. I play on a 50 Major team and I know we have probably broken 75 Miken Ultra 2's the last 2-3 years and NO ONE has ever got a replacement from Miken. We were all told many times it comes with no warranty. We see Corky all the time at tournaments and he knows we have purchased, and broke, his bats. 90% of the guys have switched to the Reeboks this year and many of us have had broken bats relaced with new ones from Reebok in the last 3-4 months. It's my opinon that the Reebok does not last any longer than a Miken, but the fact that they will replace them makes all the difference in the world. I agree with CRUSADERVB in that the Combats last the longest. We have a few of those amongst our guys and they have had no issues.

Discussion: How many bats this year??

I had a red Ultra 2 end load break after 20 at bats. Our team has probably broken 10 bats (mostly Ultra 2's) so far this year and we've only played 1 tournament! I'm convinced its the balls, and the fact that we take a lot of BP with older, harder balls. We've stopped doing that. Most of the guys on the team now don't use their game-bats for BP or league. We try and save them for the tournaments.

OK. I have an Ultra 2 that is 2-3 years old. The weight is either 27 or 28. I don't know because the sticker came off the knob. I bought it as a backup from a friend last year. I use a 30 oz normally, but wanted a backup because they always seem to break. What tournaments are you playing in the next few months? - maybe we can meet and I can show you the bat to see if you are interested. I would add some cash to the deal.

Would you consider selling it? If so, how much? Thanks.

Discussion: Spa Ratings compared to SSUSA ratings

I agree strongly with Wes. You can't have arbitrary opnions decide how a team gets moved up or down. It has to be decided on the field according to agreed upon rules, like SPA does it now. Teams have the choice to not play in an association if they feel they are being mistreated.

Discussion: RULE CHANGES...COMMENTS

I think its a GREAT idea to make them outs rather than singles. It's either that or change the bats and balls. Watching 15 balls go over the fence and have them be singles is a joke and not softball. I'm pleasantly surprised to see the committee take such a risk but I think the result will be fewer divisions and more competitive games.

Discussion: Should Major Plus be combined with Major teams

I play Major 50 and have always felt there are too many divisions. There should be 1 or 2 at the most - A and Major. It's a major letdown to go to a tournament and play the same teams over and over. The scores for major games are almost identical to major plus scores. They should be combined. Likewise for AA and AAA. There's no reason to have 4 seperate divisions.

Discussion: Looking For 50 AAA Players in New York

Chuck,
I live in Texas but am from Long Island. I know a guy you can call who might be able to give you some names. He's a good player too (53 years old) but still plays ASA and NSA and I don't think he wants to play "senior" softball. His name is Rick Caravaggio - 631-588-5950.
My name is Sean and I play for the Texas Legends - a 50 Major team. If I move back to NY I will be sure to give you a call!

Discussion: 50 Major Team Tournament Participation

The Texas Legends are planning to play March 29 in Mustang, OK. We have moved up to Major from AAA.

Any idea how many teams will be there?
