Jan. 13 hitts Men's 50 44 posts | I think this is a great start in managing our hot bat with a design for player safety. It would also be productive the have a list of bats approved prior to this announcement as some say senior but don't have 1.21 rating. I know there are several model & brands that have come & gone, the clarity would eliminate any questions.jmo |
Jan. 21 SALSAKID49 Men's 60 161 posts | I smell a rat in this new bat policy.. Why no Rebook, Worth and Monsta...? If they want to protect players.. then change the ball.. how about going to the U-trip HotDots... ? |
Jan. 21 softball4b Men's 70 1250 posts | SSUSA. Please clarify. I realize the policy indicated that the new policy referenced only those bats new in 2014, but the Dirty and the Ambush were released in 2012. Is the Melee still legal or not? |
Jan. 21 SSUSA Staff 3505 posts | All bats introduced into the marketplace prior to 2014, and compliant with the BPF 1.21 standard (permanently marked accordingly) are legal for use in SSUSA sanctioned events. This is exactly as stated in the priority message above titled SSUSA PUBLISHES NEW BAT POLICY. The Dirty, Ambush and Melee met the BPF=1.21 testing specification and timing of manufacture criteria as "pre-2014". They are legal. |
Jan. 21 softball4b Men's 70 1250 posts | That's the way I read it. Thank you. |
Jan. 21 SALSAKID49 Men's 60 161 posts | LOL!! too bad this forum board is old as a 1990's DESKTOP computer... I can not post any Sarcasm icons... Thanks for the clarity SSUSA... ;) |
Jan. 21 68Levi 21 posts | So the new Easton that is ready for release, as well as the new 2014 line of Demarini's will not be allowed for SSUSA sanctioned events? These are major brands...will their acceptance be revisited this year or is that it for 2014? |
Jan. 21 SSUSA Staff 3505 posts | Any "new" model bats brought to market after 2013 will be approved for use in SSUSA sanctioned events as soon as BPF=1.21 testing compliance is confirmed by the independent lab and the manufacturer has completed their licensing arrangements with SSUSA ... These items can occur at any time, and the bats will be added to the approved list immediately thereafter ... |
Jan. 22 #19 Men's 70 302 posts | SSUSA finds a new revenue stream ... Licensing fees ... The cost which will be passed on to the players in the form of increased cost for bats ... Thanks |
Jan. 22 softball4b Men's 70 1250 posts | Fees, like it or not, this is no different than USSSA or ASA. |
Jan. 22 Garocket Men's 55 259 posts | Every Association that has it SA on a bat gets a licence fee same with the balls. The problem with the common person is they have no idea how to run a business In our state even the high schools have to use a specfic ball in playoffs and state championships, SO the high school association makes sure the players are used to the feel of Wilson Balls so they all but them for the teams Image every high school in your state using the same brand lets say 700 high schools each football varsity team has 20 footballs the JV team has 10 ehight grade teams ghave 6-8 and most high school have two or 3 lower feeder schools so 20 footballs for HS 10 for JV 3 feeders at 6 per feeder Thats 48 fotballs x 700 schools thats 33,600 footballs and they get replinished about every 3 years or so. Now thats just footballs that does not count the Basketsballs which you have to have Girls sizes and boys sizes Baseball Softballs Voleyballs And the state gets a once a year sponsorship from this company And this goes on evry where I hear no body complaning about this and you pay for them with your tax dollars Just good business practice if you ask me |
Jan. 24 PlanoPlayer Men's 65 72 posts | I just corresponded with George at SSUSA to get a clarification on the new 2014 bat rule/policy. He responded very promptly. Question setup - there are Miken Ultra 2's (black, red and grey) manufactured in early 2013 AND PRIOR that have 1.20 stamped on them AND the SSUSA Approved stamp, and not the 1.21 stamp. I believe Miken switched to the 1.21 stamp (still with the SSUSA Approved stamp) sometime in early to mid 2013 but I am not sure, and I am quite sure that now they are only manufacturing them with the 1.21 stamp (with the SSUSA Approved stamp). As it relates to bats manufactured prior to January 1, 2014, the new 2014 SSUSA bat policy states: All approved bats (1.21 bpf) manufactured before 2014 are allowed - so my question to George was: Do Miken bats manufactured prior to January 1, 2014 that have the 1.20 stamp and the SSUSA Approved stamp still legal for SSUSA play in 2014 and beyond? His answer was: Yes, they have been grandfathered in. So SSUSA approved bats manufactured prior to January 1, 2014 that have the 1.20 stamp are legal for play in SSUSA in 2014. The current SSUSA bat policy statement that currently says All approved bats (1.21 bpf) manufactured before 2014 are allowed is misleading because it has the 1.21 qualifier when that is not accurate. I asked George to change the language and to take out the 1.21 specification for bats manufactured prior to 2014. I hope this makes sense to everyone. Alan |
