this will be my first year. i pitch. how far beyond the plate does the strike mat extend?

The strike mat is 19" wide by 34½" deep and overlays the home plate (extending 1" on either side) ... The front edge of the strike mat is aligned with the front edge of the home plate and extends 17½" behind the rear point of the home plate ...

Another visual you can get masked man is basically another home plate behind the original home plate plus a tad. And yes a little more on each side (1")
