Recreational tournaments
At recreational tournaments,(specifically Bullhead City 10/30-11/4), may a Major or Major+ rated player play on a normally rated AA or AAA team? And visa/versa, may a AA or AAA rated player play on a normally rated Major or Major+ team without being rerated to Major for the 2021 season?

Rick1218 ... You've touched on multiple issues that have multiple implications ... A Major+ player may NOT play on either a AAA or AA rated team, regardless of whether or not that team is playing "Exhibition" in an event ... This is a player safety matter and is specifically prohibited by Rulebook §4.2(7) on page 24 ... A major experience player may play on a AAA or AA team ... As for a AA or AAA experience player doing the event on a Major+ team: [1] Why would he want to? [2] He should make certain his medical insurance is current and [3] Doing so would NOT have an adverse impact on his player history if the team plays exhibition ... Good luck! ...

Thank you for the response.
To be perfectly clear to me...At the recreational Bullhead tournament, where the seeding is "subjective", a team with a Major+ player must play in the top bracket? Will all the players on that team be rerated?

If a AAA player plays up to a team that is normally rated M or M+ and they don't play exhibition will that player be rerated for 2021?

thx

Rick1218 ... SSUSA is sanctioning, but not administering the Bullhead City event, so the "division breakout" is totally the subjective call of the tourney promoter, LVSSA ... However, IF a team doesn't play "Exhibition", then every individual on the roster will carry that rating experience factor for two Seasons from the event date ... The best generic advice is usually "..If in doubt, sit it out.." ... Please feel free to call the SSUSA office at (916) 326.5303 during weekday mornings Pacific Time and ask for an eligibility person ... They can walk you through any other specific questions you may have ...

Thanks for the response...but... that answer doesn't seem to agree with the statement on the Recreational tournament page that states "SSUSA roster restrictions do not apply".
Of concern is that a AAA player playing for a one time tournament on a higher rated team may have to live with that rating or 2 yrs. Or that a team that is usually rated AAA has a one time Major+ player may be disqualified or have their entire team rerated higher.
My confusion...I'll call the office.

I always thought that there are no roster restrictions in rec tournaments.

Actually, the answer is consistent ... The team playing in a "Rec" tournament may build the roster without "restrictions" ... An example would be playing as a AAA team with five players (more than the three allowed) having qualifying Major history, or maybe an out of region guy from the wrong side of the Mississippi River, or one guy who's 53 playing with his buddies on a 55+ team ... However, the prohibition about a player with Major+ history wanting to play down on a AA or AAA team is not a roster restriction ... That's a player safety provision that's in place regardless of the Recreational/Qualifier/Exhibition status of the event ...

It seems entirely possible you have a specific team arrangement as your goal and are seeking assurances here there won't be any qualifying history implications to you if you do what you are probably going to do anyway ... We aren't offering that assurance now ... Feel free to call the Sacramento Office weekday mornings at (916) 326.5303 and ask for an eligibility specialist ... Be prepared to identify both yourself and the team(s) involved and they'll walk you through it ... This will not be a "theoretical discussion" ... Good luck!

Just talked to a eligibility person at the SSUSA office. He said a lower rated player playing on a M+ team in a recreational tournament would not be subject to being rerated to M+.

Yep ... 👍 ... I listened in on the conversation ... Just don't have this Major+ team play below the Major rating group ... That prohibition is unrelated and still valid ... Good luck!
