| Aug. 7 Lecak Men's 60 1026 posts | Stepping around the numbers per age group and division is it a fact that participation in tournaments is declining, or in absolute numbers are more folks participating annually?I know that Reno is a big hit and Phoenix I'm sure will be, the Vegas events, TOC etc. I know here in Vegas guys that run young tournaments the directors would kill for the numbers being brought in by the Senior events. In Reno every where you turned you saw a Senior ballplayer. However you choose to participate be it leagues, national events, batting practice with your friends I see seniors everywhere doing stuff. |
| Aug. 7 Fred Scerra Men's 80 542 posts | I don't know if it is declining or just that the number of teams are being spread out more with more tournaments being played. According to my new Senior Softball News I got yesterday they want to still add more. You would think that everyone would learn from Hockey, more teams means lesser talent, In our case more tournaments just means lesser participation in individual tournaments except for a few of the major ones. |
| Aug. 7 the wood Men's 65 1123 posts | Lecak: in the young guy events they don't have age limitations in the 18-35 market. So when you consider that this spans 18 years, we'd have 3-4 different divisions in senior competition. Even some late 30 and early 40 guys are still playing in the non-age based events. To consider whether senior numbers are declining or not is really just a function of how many ID cards are being purchased. Today to SSWC enrollment is around 27,000... this includes all skill levels, all age brackets (50-75) and both sexes. I cannot quote what the number was 5 years ago. Bear in mind that not all assns require ID cards. Obviously, the failure of this method is that some player's preference of one assn to another at different times. In my estimation the numbers are growing as a larger number of senior people value recreation and there are more seniors alive today than 10 years ago. I would be surprised to learn that the numbers have decreased... or will decrease. |
| Aug. 7 taits Men's 65 4548 posts | IF there were say the 27k that play, and say only 15k of those all had ID cards, at a cost of roughly $ 00..50 to produce and mail, that equals a good return. For the 5 yr card, still not too bad a deal. Personally I do not like the "senior" designation for those under 50, sorry, jmo. |
