After playing in a tournament with Team A (75 Major Plus) must player be released to play for Team B, also rated 75 Major Plus? After playing a tournament with Team B, can player be released a second time?

Vincemelo, as I understand it, a player is allowed ONE release per season and may not return to his original team. See the FORMS section for player release form instructions.

▲ This is the correct statement of the general rule on player releases ▲

Hello folks..as I read that inquiry, can player switch to team b and play in tournament, without being officially released by team a? As I read the rule, player would then be locked into team b for rest of season. Good rule to have to prevent "for-hire" situations. Tku george

9 ball ... No player is permitted to be on two rosters at the same time in the same age group ... So NO, the player would be "illegal" on team "B" without a prior release from team "A" (or an exception - see below) ... If it happens, it is almost always the result of a combination of [1] intentional disregard of the roster rules by manager "B", [2] intentional disregard of the roster rules by the player failing to inform manager "B" that he is already on the team "A" roster, or [3] our office "missed it" if this is an event where we are checking and approving rosters in advance ...

We do allow plyers a "one-time" exception each Season to assist teams who may have a case of "the shorts" for a specific event ... That exception request must be made in writing in advance, and is limited to one time per Season per player ... Hope this helps ...

Okie dokie..that 1 time same age group exemption upon approval,to help fill an undermanned roster,is good. When a 70 AAA fills in on a 65 AAA roster on a temporary basis,is that also a 1 time exemption? Tku george

9 ball ... The answer we provided above is based on the general rule that prohibits simultaneous double-rostering in the same age group ... Regarding your hypothetical fact pattern of playing in two separate age divisions, please see Rulebook §4.2(6)PLAYING IN TWO AGE DIVISIONS (on Page 23) ... Players who participate across two age groups, subject, of course, to being otherwise eligible as to residency and player experience rating history, is a fairly common occurrence ... Please call the Sacramento Home Office at (916) 326.5303 during normal business hours in the Pacific time zone if you have additional questions or concerns ...

To be clear ... The player in question can be released to play for another team in the same age and rating one time per season to help out with a roster shortage situation ... and then be picked back up by his original team. Correct?

As I read this,no official release is required by team A in order for player to augment a same age/rating roster that needs help. A 1 time exemption is granted for that player, when a written request is received at SSUSA,to help a team that has a documented roster shortage for a particular sanctioned USSSA event. That player remains on his/her original roster after event is completed, and cannot do again for remainder of season, unless of course released by original team. This sound good Dave??? Tku George

Jeffrey97701 & 9 ball • You are both correct so long as the exception is arranged in advance of the tournament ... The call to the Sacramento Home Office at (916) 326.5303 takes very little time, will confirm your eligibility for the one-time-per-season exception and protects your roster interests later in the year ...
