July 20 UMP IN NORTH GA. 47 posts | THANKS TO ALL THAT CAME OUT .... CONGRATS TO ALL THE CHAMPS AND RUNNER UPS ..... JESSE |
July 20 BruceinGa Men's 70 3233 posts | Your did a great job Jesse. I would like to give props to the staff and directors for moving our 50 major, 7:00pm Friday game from a field with the sun directly in the batter's eyes to one on the other complex. The other complex had been closed after the last game earlier and we were move to one with sun only in the first basemen's eyes!! Really, it was a great move. I remember games in Manassas and Diamondplex when no consideration was given to the batters. Thanks again. Congrats to Turn Two for winning the 60 M+. Although I didn't stay for the final innings, I'm assuming that MTC won the 55 M+. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. |
July 20 einstein Men's 50 3112 posts | Thanks, Jesse but what have you got against congratulating me and the rest of the Eliminati??? Way to go Jess. It lifted my spirits way up seeing your smiling and friendly face. Yes, Bruce. MTC won by 13 in a game that pitted the 2 best 55 clubs on the planet and good game against us Saturday morning. The Sportsplex guys lead by Gary Richter are as tough as it gets, played great and ran a little out of gas in the late morning heat on Sunday but played MTC very, very tough. The Mavericks and Turn 2 won again showing the cream still does rise to the top. Way to go Clatta, Andy, Donnie and Mike Smith and Mickey, Sal, Ken L, Turbo, Bull, Mango, Parnell and Gary Springer who is the best dinker hitter on the planet. It was an extremely well run tournament. The weather was fabulous...78 degrees, 75 humidity. The comraderie/sportsmanship was top shelf. I saw Jack, and Paddy Mac, Gary Deaton and Too Tall. My and all our best to Gary Deaton for the tragic loss of his son a couple of months ago. And Paddy Mac looks great for being rolled in his jeep 5 times from being T-boned by a drunk senior driver. Reminds me what Dave Dowell usually reminds me of as to how precious every moment we have on this planet is. Thanks for the rules we love to play with, Ridge and the good Dudley balls that were used. I had big fun with the GSF guys who beat us in the heat on Saturday afternoon to eliminate us from the tournament. Woody and Corky and Billy and Chuck and the rest did well getting to the finals against Turn 2. We had a couple of good laughs, too, during our game, didn't we guys? All in all, I had a great time and very proud of MTC 55's who showed anyone/everyone what it's like and what it takes to be national champions at the highest level. Way to go Doak and Owie, Gary, Gee, George Robinson, Verne, Randy, Tom, Artie and the rest and especially Rick Cades for pitching all the way and leading his guys to the promised land. Way to go, my home boys from California. SPA runs great tournaments. Thanks again to one and all. And lastly special thanks to my wonderful friend Steve Imlay who participated in the home run hitting contest with me, for charity, only to have our positions reversed on the flier they printed out saying I had won instead of him. He beat me straight up, is one of the premier long ball 60 plus hitters in the nation and certainly no dishonor to lose to. Let's do it again, next year. |

Sorry, Bob50, that I didn't really get to speak with you at length... One of Bruce Fairchild's teammates, Tasco Rumeliotis, played for Dino's Pizza way back in 1974 in Pinole, CA. It was great to shoot the breeze with him, too. Congratulations to Turn Two, they played really well when they needed to do so. BW |

July 22 JohnBob Men's 65 256 posts | What a weekend, Great weather, Great teams, seeing old friends and making new ones. The Complex in Dalton other than the infields need to be cut deeper is outstanding. Sure was good to meet Ray and Woody, would have liked to talk more but had Wife and 14 year old Granddaughter with me and well you known how that goes lol. Congrats to Morris Farms for winning our division. Hope to see everyone in Gallatin next week. |
July 22 Airbosn Men's 70 329 posts | What wonderful weekend, got to see some great games and was fortunate to play in some. Sure would be nice for the youngster to see the beauty of the game. Professionalism, respect for the other players / game and sportmenship at its best was on display by all divisions. Umps / Staff did a very fine job. Oh! Got to finally meet Enstein |
July 27 JohnBob Men's 65 256 posts | JESSE,could you help this old country boy understand SPA courtesy runner rule. Late in one of our 60 major games I hit a single to start the inning next 2 batters flew out to short left field so I could not tag and advance to 2rd base but with 2 out I wanted a faster guy to run for me,he may score on a long hit etc. But Ump would not allow a courtesy runner saying I had not advanced a base. The rule reads once you touch the base as a courtesy runner you may not be replaced until you reach next base. well I thought that the only time a runner can be replaced is if he gets hurt and then only the batter he ran for can replace him. Anyway I was not a c-runner I was the batter that started the inning . This also happened in a earlier game but Ump c-runner. In both games a Tournament director was called over and one allowed the runner and one didn't. So the Umps or Directors could not agree on this rule. Help |
July 27 JohnBob Men's 65 256 posts | I left out that Ump and Director allowed the runner in ealier game. The way the rule is written its very confusing. Also in another game a lady ump called 2 of our batter's out for being out of box and there was no box marked. But over all Ump's did a great job. Thanks |
July 27 UMP IN NORTH GA. 47 posts | OK we had this come up at peach state classic so we called Mickey the acting UIC this is how we called it. 1. batter gets on 2. courtesy runner needs to take his/her place on base before next legal or illegal pitch or he/she has to move 1 base (does not matter if fly ball outs happen in between or not , still has to move one base) 3. courtesy runner that is injured or ill can be replaced but the runner being replaced is removed from the game. 4. batter can run for himself and 1 other 5. a person that was run for can not run for someone else that inning if he takes the bag , its an appeal play. 6. courtesy runner is on base at time of his bat he may be sub. for by someone not in the batting line up or has been in the game and subed out already (fresh player) hope this helps .... sorry it took to long Im at work and can you believe customers keep coming in ..... Jesse |
July 27 UMP IN NORTH GA. 47 posts | OH one thing I should have explained was as I see it in number 6. remmeber the sub that comes in is going into the batting order for the original batter in that postion. I will check with Mickey for sure. Jesse |
July 27 JohnBob Men's 65 256 posts | Thanks Jesse,I'm looking at the rule explanation given to us at manager's meeting and it reads Once you touch the base as a courtesy runner you may not be replaced until you reach the next base. The courtesy runner must be done before the next pitch. The way it reads the move one base is in effect only if the courtesy runner is replaced which I've never done in my 5 years at managing senior ball. No where on this paper does it say the batter has to move one base if not ran for before first pitch to next batter. Any way is this change only in SPA? Thanks |
July 27 UMP IN NORTH GA. 47 posts | OK I WAS WRONG ON ONE POINT .... NUMBER 6. YOU CAN NOT SUB FOR THE RUNNER IF HE IS UP HE IS AN OUT ...... JUST GOT OFF PHONE WITH MICKEY .... RULE 8 SECTION 2 http://softballspa.com/Documents/2_9_2009%20Rule%20BookFinal.pdf IN BIG BOLD LETTERS SORRY FOR CAPS HAVE TO USE AT WORK JESSE |
