Dec. 6 JamesLG 421 posts | Hi Folks: Does anybody have a report on what if any changes are coming after the summit meetings? Thanks: James |
Dec. 7 BruceinGa Men's 70 3233 posts | I would assume that the changes are posted at the top of the page. I don't like the flip flop rule, it takes away from your plate appearances. |
Dec. 7 cw Men's 65 79 posts | Can someone elaborate on the sliding at first and at the second home plate rule change, if there was one? Thanks, Chris |
Dec. 7 Webbie25 Men's 70 2414 posts | The new rules and recap are under the rules of the game category. Bruce, the flipflop rule was debated a lot. It was agreed that too often the visitors ended up continuing the bombardment and in the interest of time management in tournaments they instituted it in lieu of a mercy rule. They also moved it from 10 to 15 runs, which, in the era of the lively bat/ball was a good move to acknowledge that a lot of teams feel coming back from 10 runs down is very reachable. Really, with the 5 run limit, there are not going to be that many games that have a 15 run differential after 6 innings. I personally supported it strongly. |
Dec. 7 Webbie25 Men's 70 2414 posts | cw- The sliding rules have to do completely with safety in the game. You are allowed to slide to avoid a collision at home or first. You are still not allowed to just slide into either base at any time. Umpires judgement. |
Dec. 7 Webbie25 Men's 70 2414 posts | The sliding issue merged rules 8.5 and 8.6 (5) so the runner is not called out trying to avoid a collision if he missed a base-first or home. |
Dec. 7 spoonplugger Men's 60 95 posts | I'm in favor of the rule changes especially 16.6 . |
Dec. 7 mad dog Men's 65 4191 posts | for time management the flip-flop rules is good.i have been on both ends of an open inning going on for 20-30 minutes or more. |
Dec. 7 Dirty Men's 50 1371 posts | A 30 minute inning???? I believe you, but that shows much more about flaws in the senior games than a need for another silly rule. |
Dec. 7 Webbie25 Men's 70 2414 posts | Dirty-we had a league game last year that barely made it (by 30 seconds according to the clock on the field) into the 6th inning. We proceeded to go off on them with 24 runs and then gave up 9 coming back to end up somewhere around 47-38. That inning took over 45 minutes and was the 6:30 game. The umpires loved us after we put them an hour behind in the first game of the night. |
Dec. 7 Dirty Men's 50 1371 posts | What bats were being used? The special ones? |
Dec. 7 Webbie25 Men's 70 2414 posts | No- regular league-we had a few freak plusses-no U2's. We only hit 2 out that inning-I hit both-lots of base hits, a couple errors and the floodgates were open. Dirty-I see little difference between the Freaks and the U2's. |
Dec. 7 Dirty Men's 50 1371 posts | Webbie, I have used both as well, and have had both of them hit at me. I do see a difference, but I agree it is little. |
Dec. 7 Webbie25 Men's 70 2414 posts | Spoonplugger-I am glad you brought that up. That had to be put in because of a physical assault on a board member. Are you serious!!!! There is NOTHING in this game that should EVER warrant that and anyone that does that should be banned for life. |
