50AAA Teams, how many tournaments a year are you playing??
Just asking--------Here on the shores of Lake Erie we have six months of NO SOFTBALL. When we were young, many of us played 2-3 tournaments a month in spring/summer/ and fall, sometimes every weekend for several weeks in a row. Even a couple SNOW BALL tournaments in dead of winter.

Guys have more commitments now, better jobs, families, kids in college, yet others are also retired (or) in search of work in a bad economy.

The guys/team I play with in our league, we do not pick up players for tournaments, we stick together, but it's hard to coordinate everybody for tournaments where the majority of guys can break away for the same three days to go play, with no pick-ups additions.

How many tourneys a year are many of you playing, AND how far are do you travel? Do a lot of you have a different set of guys who play tournament ball as opposed to guys playing during the week in leagues, who also play together on the weekends???

I Guess I'm taking a poll. We have been playing only 2 to 3 tournaments a season but have managed to go to Vegas for Winter Worlds in November for several years (which is soon to be in Phoenix next year I think?)

We usually play 12 or 13. Most are in Alabama, Florida, South Carolina and Georgia. Our tournament team is made up of players from those states plus Tennessee and North Carolina.
We also travel to Virginia and at times have played in Vegas and Reno. I'm trying to talk teammates into playing in Vegas and possibly Reno, Salem and Manassas, Va.
We have a large league but one other memeber of the league play on my 60 team.

We played in 4 this year. Might play in as many as 6 next season. We traveled as far as Manassas. The rest were local.

I'm on a 50AA, we have played 7 tournaments, 5 local and 2 travel. The two travel one was in Oregon and the other was in Spokane (about 5-hours away). I, also played 3 other tournaments with different teams 2 local and 1 in northern Washington (about 4-hours away).

Thanks for comments.

One thing I seem to notice, when I was younger the guys I played league weeknight with stayed together and also played tournaments together as the SAME team all year. I might have missed something when I was younger, certainly there were a few TOURNAMENT ONLY teams but not that many.

My league team tries to go to tournaments as our complete entity, and it doesn't work unless the older fellas play in their own age group division-----not when they drop to 50+ so everybody can play.

It seems in senior ball there a LOT more "Tournament Only Teams" guys from all over who travel to the tournaments-----hence the poll.

Most of our guys live within 10-15 miles or less of each other and just stick together, which has pros and cons

Gary, as you know I am roughly your age from the same neck of the woods and completely agree. In the 70s and 80s around here it was the same teams playing both league and tournaments. I can't think of a single tournament only team. Not Hillcrest. Not Teamsters 293. Not Holy Name. Not Non Ferrous. No one.
