July 27 bashbro1 Men's 70 267 posts | Our ball club will be attending this World tournament next week and I look forward to playing in a World tournament and maybe I can make the "All World" Team selection if I can hit well. Defense and base running don't figure in typically in making an "All World" tournament team if I remember correctly so that's good! Info from the tournament web site: Oregon’s USSSA Senior Softball WORLD’S Tournament. We are pleased to host the Seniors World Tournament. Please call or email your mailing address and contact information for a tournament package, or click here : ENTRY FORM AND CHECK OUT THE BROCHURE/INFORMATION Your teams World Tournament entry form and cashiers check or money order for the entry fee MUST BE RECEIVED BY YOUR STATE DIRECTOR BY JULY 19, 2006, and then forwarded to tournament headquarters (Oregon USSSA) by July 26, 2006. Your entry fee, in the amount of $350.00 should be payable to OR USSSA. Cashiers check or money orders only please! For a listing of State Directors, please visit WWW.USSSA.COM. Teams must go through their State Director and may not directly enter a World Tournament. THE ROSTER WE RECEIVE MUST BE SIGNED BY YOUR STATE DIRECTOR. THIS ROSTER MUST BE THE ONE THAT WAS SUBMITTED TO YOUR STATE AND/OR AREA DIRECTOR WHEN YOUR TEAM QUALIFIED FOR THIS TOURNAMENT. FAILURE TO COMPLY WITH THIS RULE WILL RESULT IN YOUR TEAMS SUSPENSION FROM PARTICIPATION IN THIS TOURNAMENT. All players participating in adult USSSA tournament play shall have photo ID available. Tournament Headquarters Address: Oregon USSSA Softball, P.O. Box 2660, Salem, OR 97308-2660, (p) 1-503-980-3340, email: bashbro1+ |
July 27 the wood Men's 65 1123 posts | We will be there (GSF - 55), too. We believe Korba will be there... anyone else is the major 55s? |
July 27 bashbro1 Men's 70 267 posts | Yes, Gary(19) very astute observation on your part as I was actually playing off a thread of yours from the other day that made a lot of sense to me regarding terms like “Worlds” and “Nationals” etc. as standard qualifiers for just about any old tournament these days. The “real” Worlds and “Nationals” get watered-down in my opinion and I understand that the bevy of associations out there today do have their own World and National tournaments scheduled. The other hidden msg was how All-Tournament teams are based pretty much on players BA or On base% because it’s actually booked! The other contributing factors to an all-star performance like defense, base running, are just a fleeting memories at the conclusion of most tournaments. Bashbro1 (W.E. Ruth 60’s out of Kent, WA site of the SSUSA “WORLDS” in Sept.) |
July 31 the wood Men's 65 1123 posts | It apperas that most of the 55 major + teams are headed to St. Louis. What happened with Korba Ins & Ruth Realty 55, both of whom were 'definitely going' to Salem? |
July 31 hornachec Men's 55 50 posts | the wood - Ruth 55's have always planned to go to ISA in St. Louis... it is the Ruth 60's who are headed to salem... jim - manager Ruth 55's |
Aug. 8 BigLou 26 posts | Re gary 19's comment "last I looked you still need to make 21 plays to win a game". Actually you only need to make 3. The 3 outs in the open inning. Seniors walk off the field after 5 runs. Maybe that's why defense is sometimes overlooked in Senior Softball. Situation- 2 outs 4 runs in. A guy makes an error in Senior softball after a team has scored 4 runs and they could still leave the field after the next batter without even recording an out. The error has cost his team only 1 run. You make that same mistake playing competitive softball and it could cost you 10, 15, 20 runs. The ramifications for defense play were much greater when we used to play. That's probably, at least to a degree, why defense is sometimes overlooked in all tournament nominations. Not saying its not important-just not as important as it used to be. Maurice (the gangster of love) |
