Oct. 25, 2012 surf88 Men's 65 1000 posts | Prostate Cancer Because this is becoming so prevalent among senior men, I share this with you. A friend of mine at 69, discovered his PSA number was 14 and his Gleason Score was 7. He was told he needed surgery. He explored options and learned about a process called HIFU (High Intensity Focused Ultrasound). He found a doctor in Boston who practices in the Caribbean and flew down for the procedure. He arrived one day, had the procedure the next day and flew home two days later completely healed. He has since had 2 blood tests and is free of prostate cancer. I've been told it may be approved in the US in the near term. If you have been afflicted with this, it may be worthwhile to investigate HIFU. Ed Andrews |
Oct. 25, 2012 HJ Men's 70 481 posts | The most dangerous thing in medicine is to hear an ad hoc story and think it applies to you. We are probably the first generation, those say under 60, who no longer think doctors are gods, they aren't and some are fabulous and others dishonest money grubbers. Prostate cancer is really complicated and there is no 1 way to treat it. Go slow and learn all your options, be proactive and ask tons of questions and get second and third opinions. Understand exactly what you have ( there are many different prostate cancers) and learn the likelihood of it actually killing you and when if you do nothing but watch. If you die at 85 or older, you will most likely have prostate cancer but it will probably not be what kills you. Cancer is not an automatic death sentence and some cancers spontaneously disappear and some need immediate attention. Educate yourself fast. |
