we are still dancing all aroubd this issue.---the thread was started in an attempt to figure out ways to get MORE teams in all classification to go to tournaments---I attempted and apparently failed to make the point that so far this year in three tournaments we have played kentuckiana 65s 7 games In Shelbyville we played Indy Jobs 3 times and start off Lansing with them again--We had three teams in our division in Shelbyville and again three in Lansing counting a 70s Major---It is alot of money to go to tournaments and play the same teams over and over--some incentive needs to be found to get more teams period----Lets all try to come up with ideas to accomplish this before the game we love goes away due to non participation

My hat is off to you Ho you did your homework--I am with a 65 AA team and your research proves my point---look at the number of AA teams in each of the tournaments you mentioned. That is the problem --the number of entries is down--way down--so we as an organization need to figure out how to raise the numbers---at Shelbyville we played three different teams one we played once the other two three times each---now we are going to northern Championships and in our division is 2 65 AA one 70 Major and two 75 AAA---thats for seeding games and goes to the 70 major and two 65 aa for double elimination--we again will be playing the one team two or three times--perhaps I am wrong but the only way to get more teams is via prizes--I personally do not care because I love to play but would like more and different teams--
Ho on the major/major plus note you neglected that the numbers you posted show the same situation for 65AA--I have not seen one tournament say how many teams will be there until AFTER cancellation/refund time is past---perhaps all TD should guarantee X number of teams or money back---or make winning so good teams cannot pass up the opportunity---this is our problem and its kinda up to us to fix it--

Discussion: Tournament Prizes

Just finished the Hoosier Classic and today checked the pairings for Northern Nationals.
We played two different teams three times each in Shelbyville and actually start the seedings in Lansing against one of them. Our bracket in Lansing will have only three teams. It seems this problem crosses the lines from one organization to another--we pay several hundred dollars entrance fee and in reality get nothing in return except saying we played which in my opinion is ok-but we all really want to win against the best and have the best tournaments possible--what could make more teams want to attend--prize money--say you pay $500 to enter--what if the prize for winning was $1000--common sense tells me that more teams would enter meaning more money for the tournament and more money for the local economy and with the winnings a team could enter more tournaments---I believe SSUSA and SPA could initiate this and the associations would grow. Any other thoughts on this?? Just My Opinion

Discussion: I never dreamed it would be this hard to start playing again.

I played while in the army --that was in 1966---did not play again other than pitch to the kids in the yard until a church league in 2009--played in senior league half a year in 2010 and then played on travel team last year as well as a couple of leagues. I could not run from home to 1st the first year in church league and legs were always hurting. Last year for the first time ever I played the outfield and ran for many teammates. so at 64 I was acting like a child again and had a ball doing it--In my opinion Senior softball with all of its flaws is the best thing to come along for many of us.

Freddie in reading your scenerio the way it is written makes this a trick question---first the player comes in to play defense therefore his team is in the field
Next "after 3 outs the pitcher is supposed to come to bat but the sub that came in bats for him" since sub came in for defense the pitcher would be the lead off batter for his team--
the sub would be in batting order for the player he replaced---since pitcher would be leadoff there would be no base runners and if the sub bats for pitcher then he would be out for batting out of turn.

what does washington politics have to do with senior softball?? Lightbulb blinks to life--oh yeah if Obama wins another term we will not be able to afford to travel to tournaments---if Romney gets elected he will break down the country and sell off the non profitable parts to China--I suggest we start a movement to have constitutional amendment for two terms in congress and out!!! non of the members of congress know what our lives are like and really don't care---we ship our factories overseas in order for the developing world to have jobs to purchae our products which they now make and replace those decent jobs with service industry jobs most paying minimum wage--the country we are passing on to our children and grand children is a mere shadow of what we were left. Have a nice day everyone!!!! I have to go to my Chinese class now.
