I usually pitch to the inside edge of the mat which now becomes the middle of the plate for the batter and it seemed all the batters that stood on the 4' line hit to right field and in the 80 div you don't usually have a mobile fielder in right. |

For example if I am buying a 28 oz bat and the actual weight is 28.8 oz then I am pretty sure that the swing weight/balance point is just right for me. I just bought a 28 oz Worth Ligit HD52 and the reason I bought that one is it weighed 28.8 oz which turned out to be just right for me. A good end load feel without being too heavy. Reminds me of all my PST's that I owned. |

I have two 29.4 oz bats and the balance point is different on each so I know the one with the bigger balance point is going to swing heavier than the other so why do I care what the actual weight is of each end? It looks like taking a simple answer and making it more complicated with the end results the exact same. |

The only problem is low ceiling about 50' high. The good thing about it is that it makes you learn to hit line drives to keep it below the net. |

As for myself the other days of the week I am out taking BP and taking a couple of laps around the track when done all winter as long as it isn't raining or windy. |
| Nov. 28, 2015 Fred S | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: For 70 and over. 11 players on the field. Like or Dislike I like the 11th player covering the middle. All our leagues here in all age groups us 11 players and I haven't hear any complainants from any of the leagues. The only down side of the 11th players is it knocks about 100 points of you batting average. You have to learn to hit away from the 11th player. |

I was the cause of our league going to screens when I got a line drive just above my left eye. They went to screens the next game and I refused to pitch the rest of the year if I had to use the screen. Next season I thought about it and decided to pitch, as that is what I love doing, and learn to accept the screen. You would be suprised how much fielding the pitcher can still do (depending on the rules in the league) |

We have been using it for 4 yrs and don't know of anyone that stop playing because of it. We all just adapted to it. |

If used properly it is a detrement to the offense. Having played 20 odd years with an 11th fielder it does severe as some protection for the pitcher. Your not going to protect the pitcher against hitters that don't have good bat control except with a screen. I would be courious how players commenting on the screen actually used one? We have used it for 4 yrs now and I don't see it as a problem depending on the rules you are using for the screen. |

A pitcher who has good control and can hit the edges of the mat has a little advantage and doesn't have to rely on an ump calling the edges of the strike zone which very few of the do. Also helps the hitters with a consistent strike zone and not where the ump thinks that day. |

A few years ago when I had my own team I would keep track of outs that the middle fielder made and in a separate column I would mark those as hits and over the two years there was about a 100 points difference in batting averages. |

I prefer that he play as a rover if he can cover ground and has a strong arm. For an average player I still prefer that he play on the grass and cover the middle of the field. IMO and my experience, with me pitching, he is being wasted playing behind the 2nd base bag. True you may miss some double plays but playing deeper you are still going to get the force at 2nd and you are going to get those loopers that fall in. If he has a strong arm he still has a good chance to get the batter at first, especially with 70' bases. |
