Taits: OTE won our division but I'm not sure about our record. It was very hot and the grass was extremely long and tiring but Pasa Robles is a great area to visit.

Discussion: injured players in Manassas

Bruce: Thank you for sharing your man's message with us. While I was appalled at the injuries he described, his tone was incredibly uplifting. No complaints, no self-pity, no "why me" attitude. His statement about getting back to the gym demonstrates the best that human beings have to offer. Sure we can be petty and argumentive at times, as evidenced by some of the other threads on this site, but we do have the ability to rise above it. I have never met you, Jimmy, but thank you for reaffirming my faith in humanity.

A lot of cities do not allow guns in their parks. If you are built like me, the umps never enforce it.

Discussion: RATINGS WARS

Duke : My team, Over The Edge, has had the pleasure of playing the last three AAA teams moved up to the Major level, Old Dawgs, No Dice, and your team. Although I agree with you in principle that you did nothing to warrant being moved up, in actuality, you could compete very well with the Major teams. No Dice beat us in Reno twice, 26-25 and by 8 in the championship game. You beat us twice last weekend; by one in the round robin then you mercied us in the championship game. You have a hard team to rate because you haven't played in any big tournaments, but the information they received about your club was accurate. You guys hit as well as any team we have ever played. We can sympathize with your position but it is definitely not in our best interest to boycott the rest of the tournaments. Good luck up north,
Dennis McNulty

Discussion: Run thru rule for over 70s

cdub#9: We use the run thru rule in Burbank and I have never heard anyone complain about it. There is such a huge difference between running thru and rounding the bag that even the most incompetent ump has little problem interpreting the runner's intent. One of the most fun moments is watching a new guy execute a perfect slide then stand up and find out the ump called him out for sliding. It takes a while for both teams to stop laughing.
Even though I am only 59, I enjoy the respite from the wear and tear of sliding.
By the way, are you Bob's younger brother?

Hi John. Your hearing condition would be a great asset for becoming an umpire, but if you insist on playing e-mail me at dmcnulty@sfhs.net and I can point you in the right direction for league and tournament play in SoCal.

Discussion: Safety concern for runners on the corners

As a person who runs the bases a lot, I have taken my share of getting hit and nearly getting hit, by balls hit fair and foul. Sunday, in Palm Springs, I got hit twice with the same shot. Two outs, I'm off with the swing (maybe even a little early) and Bam, a line drive hits me in my left thigh and riccochets into my right thigh. Then the batter has the balls to bitch at me. That's life. The truth is that I have been hit or almost hit less than one percent of the times I have been on base. Not bad odds when you think of it. This weekend I saw the same ump hit twice. Should we get a screen for him?

Discussion: SSUSA staff and advertisers on this site

In the past I have received some great information on this board, but it is starting to get predictable and boring. There is a huge difference between discussion and debate and this site has definitely moved to the latter. Several members in general, and one member in particular, have basically rendered this board useless.
Gary, by your own admission you don't play tournament ball, yet you insist on telling us how tournaments should be played. You are trying to do with your computer what none of us have seen you do on a ball field, and that is control the game. Einstein might be delusional at times, but I have seen him play and he "got game". I almost look forward to his annual platooning campaign, even though I believe it would ruin softball.
You are obviously intelligent and your opinions merit consideration, but stop trying to beating us into submission. (I consider 173 posts in 14 days to be browbeating us). Make you point and then move on. Are you that paranoid that you consider any opposing opinion to be a personal attack on you? Dude, you are just too tense. Have you considered getting laid?
I'm done. See the rest of you on a field somewhere.

Discussion: fair or unfair?

First off, the Civil Rights Act of 1964 banned segregation in public places. The Thirteenth Amendment ended slavery in 1865. (Sorry, I am a history teacher)
Joe, I believe a person should play with whatever team he wishes to, but I think SSUSA has their hands tied by Kids4Ever refusing to give your man a release. Perhaps players should keep this in mind before joining this team in the future.

A pitcher who hits the middle? I like it. Find out when the next 55 tourney is in Anaheim. Go and introduce yourself around. I'm sure you'll get some responses.
