I donate them to the needy. I get a kick out of occasionally seeing a homeless person wearing one, especially if my name is on the back.

I don't know who you guys are playing against, but getting something past Sierrahiker or Robbin of the Strokers is never a cheap hit .
The problem with this DBO rule is eliminates the importance of the pitcher as a defensive position. Put anyone on the mound; if the ball comes near him it is an out. As long as he can throw strikes, who cares if he can field.

Discussion: Nokona gloves

Allan: I have a Nokona and I like it very much. My nickname in the field used to be "Fifty-Fifty". Since I started using the Nokona, I am regularly called "Sixty-Forty" and occasionally "Seventy-Thirty". I even had two tourneys where my fielding percentage was higher than my batting average. It was the easiest glove to break in that I have ever owned.

We all have our own stories and situations. It takes a very small person , indeed, to presume to know mine.

It's a soak D.G. I would save a lot of money each year if I wasn't eligible to play tournament ball. Considering that of the five games I played last Saturday in Phoenix, three of those games were against teams from my neighborhood, so maybe I will stay home.

Ken: The thought crossed my mind, but they are too slick for me. The expiration date on all three of my cards is 12/31/08. I wonder if my wife could get a partial refund if I die before 12/31/13.

Moving up to sixties. Just went to print out the application for a new I.D.card. Fifty dollars? Tell me this is a misprint, please.

Discussion: New One Dollar coin issue

Scott; This is one of those false rumors that the internet is known for. Although a very small percentage of these coins are missing "In God We Trust" due to a printing error, the vast majority have the phrase on them.
On the other hand, if these turn out to be as popular as the Susan B. Anthony models, God may be relieved to not be associated with them.

hitt2: Don't forget luck. I hit .909 in Salt Lake City and a couple of different bounces could have greatly affected that career best.
Bob: The best way to bat 1.000 is to get a hit the first time up and then fake a pulled hammy. By the way, I am still getting dry heaves from that pumpkin picture you sent. Was that really you?

Discussion: Up the Middle

Southpaw: If, by your reasoning, not having 100% bat control or going with the pitch are not valid arguments, then anyone who has ever hit or almost hit a pitcher must have been trying to hit the pitcher.
Last year, in Burbank, they laid out chalklines 3 ft on each side of the mound. Any ball hit between the lines was a dead-ball out. First game, bases loaded, one out, batter hits a one hopper to the mound that the pitcher easily turns into an inning-ending DP. Uh-Uh. Rule states there is now bases loaded and two out. Next batter hits a bases clearing double. Burbank doesn't have that rule anymore.

Fred, where did you get the idea that I don't hit line drives. I'm a tomahawker who doesn't follow through on my swing, so fly balls are almost always an out for me. The middle for me is anywhere from the shortstop to the second base bag. This can be a pretty big area when he is squeezing the 5-6 hole. I try to keep the ball away from the pitcher mainly because I have had too many hits taken away by good fielding pitchers. As much as I would like to have complete control over where the ball goes, in reality I don't.
Look, I'm not asking for batting tips here. All I'm saying is that pitcher safety shouldn't be completely the responsibility of the offense.

I'm a dead pull singles hitter who lives in the 5-6 hole. When I play teams familiar with my hitting, I'm lucky if I get 15 feet between short and third, so I gotta go middle.
Sometimes a pitcher will throw me outside. If you throw a dead pull hitter outside, where do you think the ball is gonna end up.
I've never tried to hit a pitcher in my life, but I have buzzed a few. I'm sorry, but I think the defense and the pitcher himself have to take some responsibility for balls hit up the middle.

I've always been proud of having been thrown out at all four bases in the same game (on two occasions), but three times in the same inning? I am in complete awe of this guy Rick.

Discussion: The Batting Box

This is a simple rule. The lines are considered part of the batter's box. You have to be completely in when the ball is pitched. To be called out, you have to have one foot completely out when you hit the ball.

Discussion: explain the various skill levels...

Richie: I think what Bruce means by competitiveness is skill level, not "will to win". There are very good players in AA but not throughout the lineup. The higher you go up the level ladder, the less breaks you get in the field. There are no weak hitters at the Major level and certainly no "easy outs".

He's definitely looking for Mike Swearingen, who plays 3rd base for the Mustangs. Mike is maybe the nicest person I have met in Senior softball and a pull hitter's best friend:)
