Discussion: Mikens NEW 12" Patriot senior bat

OK though I haven't had an opportunity to swing the Patriot yet I'm going to chime in on this. My understanding is that the Patriot is a 12" version of the new Ultra 2 Black series that previously released the Big Cat and the Maxload - 2 bats which have shown to have good durability so it's safe to assume that Miken's new Patriot 12" will follow in these footsteps but I agree with Alan the Dudley 12" has a proven level of "Street Cred" for durability something that the Patriot will have to prove itself.

As far as weighting goes I'm going to disagree slightly with wood as I think the 1/2oz endload in the Patriot will be more substantial in the swing weight than the Maxload simply based of the shorter barrel. The overall mass of the bat is pushed towards the endcap which will generate a more endloaded feeling bat with the same endload when comparing it to the Ultra 2 Black Maxload. That said if this bat swings anything like the Freak 12 that the younger USSSA guy are going crazy over I have no doubt it will be a winner for Miken.

Once I get one in my hands I will feel I have the ability to give a more informed review of the bat but for now these are my thoughts...

Glad to hear everything worked out for you! I personally have never had an issue with Miken's service and it goes without saying that Big Mike is the man when it comes to customer service and getting sh*t looked after...

RadioRan, the Miken Ultra 2 Black Maxload scales accurately to sticker weight I've found. I would think it should feel very similar to the Worth Jeff Hall Legit Senior Reload you were previously swinging so I wouldn't think you would need to go up an once in weight. You could try dry swinging the Maxload and a Big Cat to compare and see if the Big Cat with the heavier endload is more to your preference. The performance of both bats is very good so you'd be good to go with whichever feels like a better fit to your personal swing.

Discussion: POWER HITTERS

If their swings appear as identical as you suggest I'd offer that it's where they are striking the ball that is the biggest difference.

The line drive hitter is likely squaring the ball up hitting it almost on the center line and the "power hitter" I'd guess is striking the ball slightly below the center line generating back spin (cutting the ball) to cause it to lift and carry further...

RadioRan if you liked the Worth Jeff Hall Legit Senior Reload I'd suggest you give the Miken Ultra II Black Maxload (Black bat with green lettering) a try. The weighting will be almost identical and the performance and durability will impress you...

To add to the border battle analogy and to put this back on topic you wouldn't see any of these guys pitch without a mask/helmet on and I don't believe that batted ball speed there is a lot different than what happens using a senior bat and ball combination. Andy Purcell, who's arguably the best pitcher in the conference, is now wearing a pitching helmet too and I'm quite confident that his reactions are better than 99% of the senior players playing the game.

Actually Mango the Border Battle has only been played in a Stadium once(last year) in Michigan. In previous years when it was played in Oklahoma and Kitchener (ON Canada) the Border Battle has been played on diamonds with a 300' wire or very close to it. After watching these games (they are available on youtube) the bat control of these players and their stellar defensive abilities becomes quite apparent.

That shouldn't happen to 2 piece bats. It's a manufacturing defect and i think if you talk to the right person this will get rectified. Miken is typically pretty good about making things right. Hopefully Mike sees this thread and chimes in.

Same scenario Batter B has hit out of order, Batter A now in the box and takes Ball 1 and then defensive coach brings to the umpires attention that the batter's are out of order... Result is???

The other factor that has to be considered here is the level of play - big difference hitting .700 in M+ as opposed to hitting .700 in AA. By no means am I trying to insult anyone but the caliber of the defense plays a factor into batting average and on base percentage.

Discussion: Batting Average or On Base Percentage

A "good" scorekeeper is a must to keep accurate stats. I've seen it many times where one guy has hit similar to what you've described and the next guy has hit lasers that have had unreal plays made on them and a HR that a fielder went up and stole. Game on the line I still want the guy who is smashing the ball at the plate even if he's "0-fer" at that point...

That said there's a reason some say, "it's sometimes better to be lucky than good..."

Benji4 Just a caveat to your comment to joel 1975 "I don't dispute Miken is a good bat but you will buy 3 miken bats before the Hyper Z eventually breaks. We have bats from last season that have 800 hits on them."

You obviously haven't tried any of the 2016 Miken Ultra II line up! You can't beat the performance and durability of these bats unless of course you're willing to put the time in to break in and swing the Nightmare...

Discussion: teams looking for players

Fred S - well said in identifying pitchers and throwers. I agree 100% with your analogy in separating the two - the other thing teams need to realize is that a pitcher will walk a few guys if he is doing his job as opposed to the thrower who may not walk anyone. To this day it amazes me how many teams want a "pitcher" but are the first to squawk when there are a few walks thought the pitcher may have only missed the mat by an inch or two...
