Discussion: Question

Need an answer to this one.
Bases loaded, no one out.
Pop-up behind pitcher.
Umpire calls out infield fly rule, batter out.
Ball is not caught as second baseman could not make the play.
Runner on third heads for home when ball bounces.
Defensive player throws home.
Runner did not pass commit line.
As other runners move around, the catcher throws the ball to the infield.
Umpire did not make a call yet.
Runner then crosses commit line and goes home.
No one else is put out.
Is the runner out as the third out or is it a score?

Discussion: On Line Scores Spring Worlds

Kudos to SSUSA for having game results posted on line each evening for the Spring Worlds. Hope to see this at all future tournaments.

Also, kudos to SSUSA for giving the tentative field assignments this far in advance and the teams playing. Who knows, maybe having the game results on line daily is the next improvement.

Discussion: Spring Worlds Managers Meeting

My team is playing in St. George.
I am driving through Mesquite to a motel in St. George on the day of the managers meeting.
I read your note about the managers meeting, but is there the possibility that I, and others, can pick up our package during the day of the 19th and maybe have an early morning impromptu meeting at the Canyons before the first game for any changes?
It would save driving down to the meeting Monday night.

Discussion: Winter Classic in Bullhead

We attended the Winter Classic in Bullhead Tuesday through Thursday. Probably the best organized tournament I have been to in years. The tournament was designed for the players.
1. The fields were in pristine condition in the morning as most tournaments, however, after each game the tractor came out and dragged the fields. Then they raked the areas down the lines and around home plate so that the fields for each game were in the same condition as the first game. Most other tournaments either do nothing after the first game or do minimum maintenance.
2. Another item that was different from other tournaments, they had coolers in the dugouts with 12oz bottles of water and smaller bottles for quick refreshment. I realize this is not as cost effective as the water jugs, when supplied, but, again it was for the player’s convenience.
3. Then to top it off, this time in Bullhead, someone on staff had connection with someone above as the weather was very good for a tournament in Bullhead.
Thanks Bullhead and SSUSA for a very good experience.

Discussion: Field, etc. Problems

Is it me or have I seed deterioration of services at tournaments.

Last week there was no water available except at the snack bar in San Clemente, CA.
At BLD Riverside the bases were incorrect lengths but couldn't be changed as the field crew were not available.
Most tournaments, very seldom are the fields marked, sprinkled or anything at all done between games.
Last year in Vegas (worlds) the tournament director had to use a sprinkler can of water to water down around home plate because of the dust, etc.
Hope to see better care of the fields in Vegas this year.

Discussion: Big League Fields/Field of Dreams

The So/Cal Championships are to be played in Riverside(Mira Loma) and Chino Hills, CA. Can we get upfront notice of rules entering the complex? Some BLD let you bring in water and sometimes a water cooler and nothing else. Can we get information before we go there as to what they will let us enter with?

Ah, it was so nice to see the results of games played on the schedule either the evening of play or the next morning. What happened to the Southwest Championships?

fun tournament and well run as always whenever Donnie is there. However, it would have been nice to have water in the dougouts or by each field..
