surf88, I know that you are a Reebok rep. but... An ASA bat being almost as hot as the senior melee? Really? LOL

Discussion: Batting Tee

I don't have much of an opportunity to hit live BP so I hit a lot off the tee. I always try to hit on a field with a 300 ft fence. This gives me reference. You can work on your mechanics without any pressure. You can test different grips, different types of swings, and other mechanics. The fence will tell you if you are getting the results you're looking for.

It's also a good way to work out. Hitting a couple of buckets of balls with everything you have will definitely increase your strength.

Discussion: COLD WEATHER BAT DAMAGE

Yet again, Gary 19 has taken a discussion and made it all about him. He has nothing intelligent, positive, interesting or helpful to say. Again, it's nothing but a pathetic cry for attention.

I appreciate the input from the rest of you men. From what I've gathered, more of the damage is caused by a cold ball as opposed to a cold bat. Thanks

Discussion: Combat Centenarian Senior Softball Bat. Fully Loaded - durability?

I'd just like to add my voice to the chorus. I get about three times the hits from a combat as I do from the black Ultras. It's been my experience that You can hit them in colder weather, also. They take a little longer to break in and may not have quite as much pop as the Reeboks and Mikens, but if you can't hit them out with a Combat, you should be base hitting.

Discussion: COLD WEATHER BAT DAMAGE

You are more likely to break a composite bat when you hit it in cold weather, as opposed to hot weather. Is the bat damage due more to the bat being cold, the ball being cold, or both?

Faulkner45, Kelly's Ultimate Sports rates the hottest ASA bats as follows:

1. Worth 454 Filthy Midload

TIE 2. Worth Mayhem 98 Orange Original

TIE 2. Miken Super Freak 98 Midload

3. Miken Freak FX 700 Supermax

4. Miken Freak FX 700 Balanced

5. Worth 454 Toxic Balanced

6. Combat Anti Virus Fully Loaded

7. Combat Anti Virus Balanced

I don't know what criteria they use for their ratings, but now you have somewhere to start. I hope this helps.

I would like to second what hitman said about the ISA umps. They reminded me of another group of ISA umps in Gallatin, tn. in 2009. They were a young group but had an excellent rapport with us older players and did an outstanding job.

Discussion: MYRTLE BEACH FIASCO!!!!!!!! SPA

Well said Tom. Perhaps if everyone on this board would email your post to SPA, it would get Ridge's attention. Ridge is a nice person, but his first and foremost concern is money, not the quality of his product. Ridge, the quality of your product is diminishing. Your profits may be following suit if you don't make some adjustments.

Discussion: bat thiefs

I have a good friend who is one of the "bat thieves". He's a big hitter and has the same bats in his bag that I have in mine. He hinted that he wanted to hit with my newest bat. I didn't say anything. When he finally asked me directly if he could use it, I just said no. It was in front of the entire team and I think that he got the hint. It's tough to just come out and say don't use my bat, especially to a friend, but sometimes it's the only way.

Discussion: Here's the thing, seriously.....

Here's the thing, seriously. Most of those who engage Gary 19 in pig wrestling may be missing the point. Gary's posts are a cry for attention from an underachiever who lives in a fantasy softball world in which he is of some significance. For some, negative attention is better than no attention.
He is a self admitted hypocrite who uses the same high performance bats that the real senior tournament players use. His continual "special bat" reference is simply a term he uses to get under player's skins. If the bats weren't of the type that 95% of real senior ball players use, they would be special. It's just his insult.
When he can't turn a discussion into a PWM about bats, he will use a sarcastic, negative or otherwise insulting remark to vomit on the thread. This is to elicit a response that he feels gives him legitimacy on this board. When he can't make a legitimate argument, he resorts to putting words in other's mouths.
Gary isn't familiar with the experience of camaraderie, fellowship, and athletic excitement that the rest of us enjoy. So he cowardly sits at his keyboard questioning the manhood, intelligence and motivation for playing of the thousands of players who he doesn't know or know anything about. I'm sure that if could muster the testicular fortitude to play and find a team that would have him, he would learn much from the players he insults on a daily basis.
And here I'm engaging in pig wrestling. I'm such a hypocrite.

Steve, I appreciate the information. It makes me a little more optimistic. Even if it only turns out to be a good BP bat that is durable, I'll be happy. Of course, not nearly as happy as I'll be if it hits like a Meelee or Ultra. LOL

I agree with MD about the Combats. I have used them since the gray. They have plenty of pop and durability. While my last blue one only lasted about 450-500 hits, the previous yellow ones lasted 800-1000 hits. I quit counting the hits on my gray one which I use in BP.
Unless I get a really good deal on another bat, I think that I'm going to stick with the Combats. I love the Meelee, but can't afford it.

I received one of the first 26oz Meelee ELs. It was the hottest bat that I've used. The Ultra II maxload is a close second. The last four black Ultra II's lasted about 350 to 400 hits. The last red Ultra lasted about 150 hits.

The first Meelee broke in about 100 hits. Reebok replaced it with another that lasted exactly 61 hits. Yes,I counted. I'm 5'11" and 175lbs. so I'm not exactly a crusher. I've heard of some big hitters who had gotten 500 - 800 hits out of theirs, but, unfortunately, I'm not one of them.

I love the Reebok's performance but I can't afford the durability.

Discussion: REVISITING THE EQUALIZER RULE

SPA needs to rethink their equalizer rule. Playing in a tournament this weekend, there were seven 65+ AAA teams and one 70+ Major team in the same division. When the elimination round began, the AAA teams had to give the Major team five runs. The 70+ major team had to give the 65+ team an eleventh defensive player.

The 70's were given five runs to compensate for playing in a younger division. OK. The AAA's were given an extra defensive player as compensation for playing a major team. OK. Why weren't the games just played heads up? Does this sound as dumb to anyone else as it does to me?

If one team wants to play in another division, why don't they play by that divisions rules? That is unless they have the advantage, then they should compensate the teams in that division.

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Discussion: 70 foot bases

Gary 19, When I began playing senior ball in 2003, almost everyone was using composite bats. I enjoy playing with them. If wooden bats were used I'd probably be having just as much fun and I would still be playing.

You answered my first two questions in a). The rest of your response had nothing to do with the questions I asked.

Discussion: 70 foot bases

Gary 19, do you use composite bats? Are you one of the "insecure old men who seem to need them so desperately"? Is everyone who uses a composite bat an insecure old man who seem to need them so desperately? Do you know me? Do you personally know the thousands of other senior and non senior ball players who use composite bats?
