Discussion: Dorchester International Seniors Tourn

When I first started in Senior ball our team went there for my first 3 years and i always left with broken bones. The fields that you played on the first day were absolutely beautiful all nestled in the Canadian pines. The Florida fields had nothing over these fields. When you get a hit, you can hear it echo throughout the entire trees. If you have the first games in the AM, you might have to work your way through some of the wildlife animal dropping left there from the night before. But the infields are about 20ft.+ deep with fine gravel. It is just the natural terrain. It is not a good place to dive or slide. Biesides myself, I have seen allot of injuries if you play with any agressiveness in the infield. My only complaint about the tournament was, back then, after the first day on these nice fields, you would have to move to another set of fields as their league play would take over. These other fields for the championships were open diamonds and very much unkept. The last year we played, we were in the 50+ championships on open fields where the grass was so long in the outfield that the ball would not roll. Hopefully they changed there set-up for the 2nd. day. But if you do go, you MUST go to their tourn. cookout at their hockey arena. It is a wonderful time to meet the other players and wives and a chance to win a nice gift at their raffle. Over all, I recommend this tourn. for at least one try. Our northern friends really have good hospitality and are always willing to share a beer with you. Enjoy....Larry, Silver Legends.

I just received notice that one of my friends, Joe Merritt, from the Champions Schones Chiropractic team took one to the face at third base. He received at least two broken bones and several stitches as well as maybe some plastic surgery. Never ONCE did he ever mention about the bats or balls. And do you think that he is going to be out for the season??!! - not in his mind. The point is that this is all part of the game. I get tired of hearing on the message board about bats and balls. My only complaints are that with these expensive entry fees, just give us good fields to play on and new balls. I think that the rest will take care of itself. We are starting to head into the "meat" of the season so I wish all of you a good and safe tournament run. Larry-Silver Legends

Discussion: What is Senior Softball about ??!!

This is my 6th. year going into senior softball and I must say it has been most enjoyable. However, everytime I scroll down the message board I see where there are players looking for teams or teams looking for players. I am just as much into winning as the next player but at our ages, isn't there more to the game. We meet players and their families from all walks of life and develope that special friendship. After our conclusion of season, we are always looking forward to next year's circuit. With the orgainzations boosting their entry fees, extended days of tourn. play, and increased cost of traveling, it is now limiting the number of players that can travel. Therefore, I see where it is reducing the number of teams in the lower divisions. Somethings need to be done now or I am concerned that we are going to see a loss of interest for the lower age brackets. I have suggested to all of the organizations that maybe we need to divide the U.S. into four quadrants and sllow individual players to play on their regional all star team for the Worlds. In this manner no one would ever be left out for a tourn. if they want to travel with the family and visit their cross country friends. I know that their would be some "tweeking" to the process, but I believe we need to look into the true meaning of Senior softball. Let's keep this fun game going. What do you think ???!!! Larry A.
