My team (Texas Heat) is rated 60 Major. We are an "old" 60s team with several guys over 65. Our first seeding game was against a 50 Major team WITH NO SPOT (runs or 11 defensive players). We got killed 24-2. We played 2 - 50 teams in the seeding games and 55 AAA teams the rest of the games. We never played any 60 teams. Usually, we play 60 AAAs and spot runs or the extra defender. I'm not sure what happened here but usual SSUSA rules do not appear to have been used.

Discussion: Promoting Tournaments

I have experienced teams not going to tournaments because a certain team was entered first-hand. We signed up early for a tournament a few years ago and when some other teams - who had already entered - found out, they dropped out and we had no one to play. I've also been to tournaments (qualifiers) where teams would rather forfeit than play us. It is not fun to (a) not get to play games because teams simply do not want to play you and (b) teams just dropping out because a particular team has entered. This experience was at the Major Plus level.

I got mine from Corky in Phoenix in 2011 and have enjoyed them ever since. He sells them from the Miken truck at the tournaments he attends.

I, too, may be naive, but I play in 60 Major and 65 Major Plus and I just don't see much, if any, evidence of bat tampering. I do see an occasional "strange" bat being used by a guy or two, but it's extremely unusual. By strange, I mean a USSSA bat instead of a senior bat...and that could be the hitters' preference to use a more durable bat. JMO.

Harry, I think as long as the ball is in your possession, administering a tag whether or not the ball is in your glove constitues an out. I remember once in Virginia while playing the outfield, I went after a fly ball and the wind moved it just as I was about to make the catch. I wound up catching it bare-handed in my right hand! Luck, of course, but the ump rang up the out!

Bogie, Great video! I enjoyed seeing my pals Dave Reed and Steve Imlay representing us 60+ dudes. I don't know Bobby Davis that well yet but since he plays with Ed Rose he must be a very patient individual! LOL! Wish Clatta had been on there, too!

Those shots Dave were hitting looked like the bombs he dropped on us last year in Las Vegas!

Hoovedog, I use old metal bats when it gets cold here in Oklahoma City. I've cracked the gold C405 EST already this year and started a crack on an old a TPS. They do last a long time but do give out. However, I can't crack my old 35 oz Dave Carroll Sports Bombat,

I'd rather play 1-pitch if we are in such a hurry to get games done. It is, after all, as the 1-1 proponents say, a hitters game. That way the hitter will be agressive from the get-go!

Ron, Looking forward to it! We played the Full Circle guys in Las Vegas in the 60s. Woody and Billy Steele, among others. I'm sure they'll be glad to add you guys to the mix.

I can tell you that in the 65 Major Plus bracket, home runs were NOT the rule (except when Dave Reed from Florida Thunder was at the plate). We (Omen) played 7 games and I'll bet we did not hit 15 TOTAL in the 7 games. I think Dave hit 17 by himself in one of the best exhibitions of power hitting I've ever seen. And then there's Turn 2 with 4 legitimate home run hitters. They just out-powered (and outhit) everyone.

Donnie, I'm still playing with Omen. I'm sure GSF will be a handful.

You guys really crushed us in the NA Championship game. Also, congrats on the 65 M+ championship. It was good to see all my "old" friends from the East even though the whooping we took was not fun!

Looking forward to what y'all do next year with James and Larry moving up with you.

Ron, It's not like Dave Dowell, et. al., don't know you! As long as you "youngsters" (rising 65s) are nice to your "elders", all will be well! Look forward to playing GSF in Phoenix!
