July 9 Allan55 102 posts | I understand some teams have reevaluated their decisions regarding attending the Western National Tournament. Who will be going? GSC? Legends? Nazzareno? Arizona Elite? Nighthawks? Cal Energy? Hendricks? MTC 50 and 55 M+ will be there. If teams are by-passing the tournament, consider the Manteca, CA BLD Hall of Fame Tournament Aug 17-18 two weeks later. This will be the best tournament of the year. The 50 and 55 M+ tams play together. This should be fun. MTC 50 and 55 M+ will be there also. |

July 10 Tate22 Men's 60 280 posts | Gary - speaking for the Southern CA-based Nighthawks, a trip to Sacramento for the Western Nationals is another road trip requiring taking at least two days off work. While we have some money, we have to budget travel and time off work. We were bummed to miss Reno which is always on our schedule, but we were down to 9 healthy players and had to drop out. This weekend, we have a chance to play in San Clemente, on a Big League Dreams type complex, 3 miles from the ocean. Our 55 division has 6 quality, competitive 55M/M+teams, including teams from Arizona. The San Clemente fields are way better than Mahaney and Maidu in Roseville. We'd love to be competing against MTC and Cal Energy prior to the worlds, but it is an expensive choice when we have excellent opportunities 400 miles closer. Nothing against Nor Cal, but we'ez on a budget. BTW - Interstate 5 is a two-way road. Don Newhard Nighthawks 55M+ |
July 10 Marv19 Men's 60 498 posts | Don is correct. The SCSSA puts on 11 tournaments a year at a minimum of 4 fields complexes. (one per month except October) These venues are at or above in quality of the best ball parks in the state. In the four years I have been involved with this organization I can count the fingers on one hand the number of Northern California teams that have made the trip south to do battle with our local tanned warriors. Not only does the 5 run north and south but the 99, 101 and State highway 1 have southbound lanes as well. Highway 1 is very scenic and you might enjoy the drive. Maybe we'll see some of you sun starved guys down here sometime :O) Perhaps the Southern California Senior Softball Championships held 3 weeks before "Worlds" would be a good time? July 10 Allan55 102 posts | Don, I can't blame you for sticking close to home. Time off work and having all players available are things you can't overlook. Good luck and see you at the Worlds. Marv19, I can also count the the number of Southern Cal teams that have made the trip to Northern Cal on one hand. It's a big state and a long trip both ways. NCSSA and SCSSA will have to share more info on schedules. Maybe that would increase participation...a little. Or maybe there could be a few tournaments in the middle of the state. |
July 16 Allan55 102 posts | Don, I just heard you are coming to the Western National. I thought you were on a budget. Did you rob a bank to get some extra cash? I look forward to seeing you. |
