Question for Seasoned Softball Players - Been using the VII since last year. It has been a good stick, however, since it has begun to crack this bat has gotten very hot. Has anyone had this experience with the VII or is this what happens to most composites once they begin to delaminate? How (many hits) long after cracking / delaminating does the bat last?

I bought 2 of them late last year and at first thought they were just ok as far as pop goes. I stayed with it using it in BP a lot probably had about 500 or more hits on it and it started to come to life. It was real hot for a while but then it broke. I did not notice any paint delaminating though, just some chips where it cracked.

I have been using the other one I bought a fair bit this year but worked it in with a rubber hammer first. It's been pretty decent but we are still not talking Ultra good. I also tried a friends Freak and it's much hotter. I liked the Freak so much I have 1 on order.

Hope that helps

Bat-Heater, Thanks for the comments. Sometimes I wonder if Miken continued the same manufacturing process with their Ultra, Ultra II, and VII and just added a layer of carbon fiber to stiffen the VII and once the fiber begins to relax the bat starts to have Ultra like behavior. Right now that bat is my gamer, no more BP and unnecessary use.

I also bought 2 late last year. sented one back because it cracked about 3 to 5 in along the barrell, but before it did you could hit some long, hard drives. gain in pop was about 20 ft. trying to break in the other one now. it lasted about 4 tournaments in game used only!!! no bp. I am trying the old rubber hammer trick now on the other. got about 200 swings on it now hope it will be ready in June to play with. hope that helps you.
