Aug. 17, 2017 Pitcherwpop Men's 55 2 posts | Jose Moreno's Bat challenge One of the nicest guys in SSUSA, not to mention one of the best players to ever lace them up. Should be in the SSUSA HOF one day, no doubt. To embarrass someone and take their bat in a tournament is down right awful. Then to find it to be legal and just say sorry Jose, here is your bat back just isn't enough. I recommend that if a team calls out a bat on the opposition and that bat is found to be legal then the team that had it confiscated should be forced to by that player a new bat of his choice. Let's do the right thing here. One step further, don't take the bat during a game, just mark the bat and take it after the game. Innocent players don't deserve to be embarrassed like this. |

Aug. 18, 2017 SSUSA Staff 3491 posts | The end cap had been "off the bat" and was put back in place with the Miken logo mis-aligned with the standard bat graphics on the barrel ... We have no opinion and made no allegations regarding the reason(s) the cap had been off the bat ... The owner voluntarily, and graciously, relinquished the bat for inspection and testing by Miken ... That testing was completed very quickly and revealed NO TAMPERING OF ANY TYPE ... We disclosed those findings on this message board (see priority message above) as soon as we received them ... |

It is unfortunate that it has come to this but I would rather see them being proactive than non receptive when there is a bat in question. Played in a tournament earlier this year when our team told a TD about a questionable bat that we felt was being used. He told us that unless the ump had reason to pull the bat there was nothing he could do. I guarantee this type of crap is going to happen more and more as long as bats are able to be shaved for max distance. If SSUSA was so concerned about player safety, they would go to a softer ball where a shaved bat is no advantage at all. Can't understand why they are so worried about a possible collision at home which warrants the use of 2 home plates - but when it comes to using a shaver.... not so concerned. |
Aug. 19, 2017 stick8 1992 posts | When I've umpired conference usssa all players bats are compression tested before they play. Bats that pass are put in a plastic bucket near their dugout.--they can only use bats in the bucket. After games the buckets are taken and stored away until their next game. Only when they are out of the tournament do they get their bats back. Even though these bats passed the test, bat doctoring has become so advanced a bat can be shaved and still pass the compression test. Hard to believe anyone would shave a senior bat. |

Make a rolled-over end cap and quickly eliminate a fast easy way to cheat. Add a layer of fiber under the outer shell that becomes clearly visible when a barrel is impacted harder than a batted ball could do and eliminate another form of cheating, bat rolling. Also when this under layer becomes visible through normal use then the bat doesn't pass and it's not sanction event eligible. |
Jan. 21, 2018 RJB 21 posts | I have always liked the idea of the bats tested and put in barrell.sad to say that it's not only the bats being altered..it's the balls being recovered..higher core and compression balls with the legal compression cover restricted ..also sad to say that rolling the endcap is no good anymore...I have heard of them going through the knob hand with a honing device that expands once inside and they thin it that way...cheaters are alwaays gonna find a way, but if we don't try and get it under control...more and more will get injured or lose a life...just my opinion as a pitcher that is still pitching with the young guys and playing senior ball..another note..all pitched should not have the option to wear a mask, cup and shin guards.... |
