Discussion: Courtesy Runner

Batter A gets on base and asks for a Courtesy Runner. Runner B becomes the runner and either scores or is out at another base. Later in that same inning, Runner B comes to bat, gets a hit and is on-base. He then asks for a courtesy runner.
Is runner B out? I think not bu cannot find wording to that effect. Some of umpires say he is out. Cab someone claify the ruling?
I don't think SSUSA covers your question in it's rule book ..yes runner B is allowed to get a courtesy runner later in the inning after getting on base
B.J. is correct ... Each player on the game card may:
• Enter as a CR ONE TIME per inning, and must do so before the 1st pitch to ANY batter (no mid-count entry)
• Have a CR for himself as many times as he gets on base, whether or not he has been a CR in the inning
• NOT CR a second time for the same batter who may get on base again in an open inning

Dave
If batter #1 gets a CR, batter #1 can not be used as a CR. Is that correct?
Coop3636, prior to reading this exchange I would have said your hunch was correct, but after seeing DD's response I would now say even if a batter uses a CR he can CR run for someone else later.

DD said, "May have a CR for himself as many times as he gets on base, whether or not he has been a CR in the inning." Starting from the back end of the sentence DD is saying even if someone was a CR, he can still have someone run for him, which stated differently means if a batter gets a CR he can still CR for someone else.

The rule is different than I thought and different than what I've seen some umpires apply, but good to know.
coop3636 ... Thanks! ...

TOTF • I erred significantly by omission on that one ... There is one other CR restriction I didn't mention:

• If a player has been replaced by a CR in the inning, he may not then enter as a CR for another player in that same inning ... I erroneously inferred/stated otherwise! ...

... The practical effect of the CR "count" is that in any inning, half of the players on the lineup card may run (one time) for the other half of the lineup card ...
