Azcard.. once the balls hits first or third.. it is a fair ball..

BJ.. Is that true? The mat is in fair territory? (its not between the lines)

Line drive that hits first or third and then goes foul is a FAIR ball
Home plate is in fair territory, if it hits the plate and goes in foul territory, it is a foul ball (unless it goes in foul territory after it passes first or third.

Discussion: make the call

Hey Titan
If I am umpiring (which I did for many years)
If the coach moves out of the coach's box and runs into a fielder trying to catch a ball, its an out.
if the coach stays put in the coach's box and is in the way of the fielder, its not an out. (he has the right to stay put.
Its like a batter standing in the batters box of a pop up to the catcher, there is no interference.
Just my opinion.
If you can find it written differently in the rule book, please let me know

Grayhitter...If the runner was in foul territory, then it would be ZERO outs because it would NOT be an infield fly ruling. It would only be an out if the baserunner interfered with the defensive player (so he couldn't make the catch)

Wayne.. The base IS a "safe haven" If you are on the base and are hit with the ball, you are NOT out. If it is a pop fly over the base, you have the right to stand on the base and not move. (like a base coach in the coach's box)

Just my interpretation of the rule

Discussion: Looking for the old grey Miken one piece bat..27 oz

I am looking for the old grey Miken senior bat. 27 0z
I am on my last one and would love to get another.
If anyone has one that they want to sell, please let me know
It is the one that came out before the USA model (but I will get the USA model if as else fails)
I really don't like the 2 piece bats (I don't swing hard enough to get the whip needed to use them)

Discussion: Lower back problems

Armiho21,
I have been dealing with back problems for many many years. I am very hard on my body. softball, racquetball work, etc.
A Chiropractor will help tremendously. Mine has kept me going for about 20 years now.
That surgery DOES work if your disc is touching a nerve, I had it and was back on the field in 30 days
Its called a discectomy and is an out patient surgery. (if the pain is down your legs and your chiropractor doesn't give any relief, then its time for surgery.)

I also get a nerve block (cortisone shot) about 2 times a year.
It stings a little but not too bad and gives me great relief. It helps with the inflammation and pain.
The biggest thing is to ice it ice it ice it.
In between games for 10-15 minutes makes a big difference.
Also , the invertor boards helps from home. Its not too expensive and only takes a few minutes everyday.
This is just what helps me.

Discussion: RULLING

This came from dave on an earlier post
I agree..
"If the runner is hit with a fair batted ball while touching a base, he is not
out. EFFECT: The ball is live or dead depending on the position of the
fielder closest to the ball. If the closest defensive player is in front of
the base runner hit by the ball, the ball remains live. However, after the
runner in contact with the base is hit by the batted ball, it shall be the
same as hitting the ground. Since the ball remains live, the defense is
free to make whatever plays are available. If the defensive player is
behind the base runner, the ball is ruled dead, the hitter is awarded a
base hit and runners are advanced ONLY if forced to advance.

This is the complete answer.

LB16
It does matter if you make an attempt or not. If you go back to first, the ump WILL NOT award second base.
The only way he should award second if the runner makes an attempt to go to second, even if he walks there.

Discussion: Need your opinon....and ideas

I am not trying to start my own association, I was just trying to come up with ideas to make senior softball better.
The entry fees are getting so high that it is hard to come up with $6000 a year for 10 tournaments.
And then hotel room for 3 days, not 2.
I like to play as much as possible, just trying to come up with a way to do this and still eat.
Brett
And Dave, I know you like to bust my chops, but maybe listening to some ideas would be a good thing. Just because SSUSA is established, it doesn't mean it can't be improved (especially for the players)

I am REAL shocked that not more people have had any opinions
Tourney fee for 200-250?
That alone should peak some interest.

Discussion: Need your opinon....and ideas

Would anyone be interested in the following tournaments?

Entry fee around $200-$250
2 umps per game
Hit whatever senior ball you have as long as its the right core/compression
3 game guarantee (wrap around bracket)
Prizes as good as we get now
not sure about scorekeepers yet
same age groups, (but maybe 50-57....58-64....65...70...75...80...85 (this would eliminate the 55 division which has the smallest number of teams)

2 divisions

AA/AAA (3 hrs with one up (all others outs) 5 runs per inning
Major/Major plus (6 hrs with one up (all others walks) 7 runs per inning

Most all tournaments would be on just Saturday and Sunday

Same rules as most senior softball, time limits, pitch runners, hit and sit, open innings etc.

Just a thought to see if anyone would be interested in something like this.

Let me hear your thoughts and opinions.

Dave
I give a serious suggestion and you try and make fun.
I can handle to the making fun of, (I dish it out so I take it also) but it was a serious suggestion for next years meeting.
I have asked plenty of players and they have no issue with it.
Thanks in advance for putting it on your discussion list.

Hey...
What about this?
What if you give the team that wins the winners bracket home team on the first game of the championship game.
If it goes to an " IF" game, then go to a coin flip.
This gives the team with no loses some kind of reward for winning.
Just my 2 cents.
