Discussion: RULLING

This came from dave on an earlier post
I agree..
"If the runner is hit with a fair batted ball while touching a base, he is not
out. EFFECT: The ball is live or dead depending on the position of the
fielder closest to the ball. If the closest defensive player is in front of
the base runner hit by the ball, the ball remains live. However, after the
runner in contact with the base is hit by the batted ball, it shall be the
same as hitting the ground. Since the ball remains live, the defense is
free to make whatever plays are available. If the defensive player is
behind the base runner, the ball is ruled dead, the hitter is awarded a
base hit and runners are advanced ONLY if forced to advance.

This is the complete answer.

It does matter if you make an attempt or not. If you go back to first, the ump WILL NOT award second base.
The only way he should award second if the runner makes an attempt to go to second, even if he walks there.

Discussion: Need your opinon....and ideas

I am not trying to start my own association, I was just trying to come up with ideas to make senior softball better.
The entry fees are getting so high that it is hard to come up with $6000 a year for 10 tournaments.
And then hotel room for 3 days, not 2.
I like to play as much as possible, just trying to come up with a way to do this and still eat.
Brett
And Dave, I know you like to bust my chops, but maybe listening to some ideas would be a good thing. Just because SSUSA is established, it doesn't mean it can't be improved (especially for the players)

I am REAL shocked that not more people have had any opinions
Tourney fee for 200-250?
That alone should peak some interest.

Would anyone be interested in the following tournaments?

Entry fee around $200-$250
2 umps per game
Hit whatever senior ball you have as long as its the right core/compression
3 game guarantee (wrap around bracket)
Prizes as good as we get now
not sure about scorekeepers yet
same age groups, (but maybe 50-57....58-64....65...70...75...80...85 (this would eliminate the 55 division which has the smallest number of teams)

2 divisions

AA/AAA (3 hrs with one up (all others outs) 5 runs per inning
Major/Major plus (6 hrs with one up (all others walks) 7 runs per inning

Most all tournaments would be on just Saturday and Sunday

Same rules as most senior softball, time limits, pitch runners, hit and sit, open innings etc.

Just a thought to see if anyone would be interested in something like this.

Let me hear your thoughts and opinions.

Dave
I give a serious suggestion and you try and make fun.
I can handle to the making fun of, (I dish it out so I take it also) but it was a serious suggestion for next years meeting.
I have asked plenty of players and they have no issue with it.
Thanks in advance for putting it on your discussion list.

You must live in a state that borders Tennessee.
Please leave contact information on board.

Hey...
What about this?
What if you give the team that wins the winners bracket home team on the first game of the championship game.
If it goes to an " IF" game, then go to a coin flip.
This gives the team with no loses some kind of reward for winning.
Just my 2 cents.

Nope
Just have some people who cant make all the tournaments and need another player or so.
You can always stay when the 65s are done and play. Make it a full weekend.

Discussion: What is the only situation where, after the play is over that a "do over" or "mulligan" can be implemented? (at least that I'm aware of)

This ISN'T in any rulebook, but it happened..
There was an illegal substitution and was told to the umpire after the batter makes and out to that illegal player.
The umps didn't know the rule, the UIC didn't know the rules, so after 30 minutes or arguing, the other coach and I just decided to have a "do over" and the umps let us. (we still laugh about it)
Our guy got a hit.
2nd time in my life the umps let us have a do over because they didn't know the rules..
Always interesting out on the softball fields
have a great day

Discussion: Get rid of Major +

Just my 2 cents worth
Let the major/major + teams hit 5 and one up with walks (they can hit all the HRs they want to)
Let the AAA/major teams hit 3 and one up with OUTS (keeps it fair for all involved)

AND the big thing is to:

let teams decide what division they want to play in.
Let them play in whatever division they want to for 2 years, then move them up if they are dominating a division, (winning one tourney, no matter which tourney it , should NOT be a mandatory move up)
Teams build a team for a certain division and should NOT be punished for 1 or 2 wins. It breaks up more teams than it does to help build a higher division.
Friends like to play together, we play softball for fun, competition, comradery, its not a job, let it be a fun thing to do.

Make it a 2 year observation, then make a decision.

Just my opinion....
any thoughts?
