Tim
We got 4 and then 5 innings plus the open in our games.
The 40 minute time limit was a good idea.
What I was saying, the 15 minute lapse BETWEEN games was the hold up. You could have played 50 min games in the same time.
It was more about the time BETWEEN games that was the hold up.
With no backup umps, it just took a LONG time for them to get back on the field. They did a good job once they got there.
Like I said earlier, I think it was handled it pretty good for the circumstances.
We will be back next year.

I want to add my 2 cents
This tournament had its share of things that went wrong (and right), but with the weather the way it was, I think they did the best they could with the scheduling. 40 min time limit could have been 50 if the games kept rolling instead of the long breaks. Overall I give a thumbs up to tourney director on the job he did.
**I agree that there was WAY too much time between games
(approx. 15 minutes for ours to start waiting on an umpire.
** If it had been up to me, I would have played the games LATE into Saturday night, That way we would have at least played more than 2 games (forecast was for rain late sat and sun morning)
** I will agree that a 4 game RR tournament (ONLY) is not what we signed up for. I know you are only guaranteed 4 games, but just a RR is not the way to go.

Hopefully they will still have it next year and will have 2 full complexes rented out so they wont run out of fields.
We will be back and hopefully it will grow each year.

Either way, I am glad SSUSA is getting some tournaments in this part of the country.

Discussion: Question about Franklin this weekend.

I know the answer, but
I told my players I would ask,(I already told them my answer)
I told them there would be no decision until Saturday. Weather forecasts are flimsy.
So here it goes.
The forecast in Franklin for Friday-Sat and Sun is 80-100% chance of rain
Is there any possibility of it being canceled early?
And if it is, can we still use it as our qualifier for Vegas?
Thanks in advance

K man,
I agree that RR games are 65 minutes
But that is when you are just using them for seeding.
If we are only playing RR games, they should ALL be the same time limit as regular bracket games.
I just want someone from the tournament to give me a reason for the setup.
I am sure they read this board.
Coop3636
PS.. In our rules, they even have a no time limit for championship game ( I assume they just copied and pasted the rules from the other division)

Still waiting on an answer to why we are just playing an only RR tourney?
If you don't want to put it on the message board, please contact me directly

Discussion: Music City bracket gripes (sorry)

Before I start, We will be there and play whatever time we are scheduled.
I just have a few questions that I hope will be answered.

Why are the 55 AAA/60 Majors and the 55 majors JUST playing a round robin tournament? (It can't be the number of teams because the 50 AAA only has
4 teams and they have RR then bracket games)
I know you are just guaranteed 4 games, but we would rather have a regular bracket section. (ALL the other divisions have a 2 game RR, then go to bracket play.
WHY are we different?
You lose ONE game in the RR, and that might be all it takes to lose. It's like playing a single elimination tournament.

Also, please explain to me why the 55 AAA (who only has 2 teams) will be playing the last game of the tournament?
Like I said, we will be there and play, but it is crazy to have 2 teams in your division and have the LAST scheduled game on Sunday.

Also, will the RR games be 65 minutes or 70 ? (should be 70 if we only playing RR games)
The rules were copied and pasted (probably from the other brackets) so I don't know what rules we are playing by. (as a coach, I really need the info)

SORRY for the long rant, but it is frustrating.
Either way , we will be there ready to play.

While looking at the brackets, you have fields double booked

50 Major and 60/65/70 are both playing in Franklin:

8 am on field #3
9:30 on field #4

just FYI

Discussion: PLEASE CHANGE THIS RULE!!

For Wayne

Quote from SPA rule book
"If a team has less than the minimum number required to finish the game, it must forfeit the game. With two outs, the defensive team cannot intentionally or unintentionally walk the batter prior to a vacant spot in the batting order to get the automatic out. Should the defense walk the batter preceding a vacant spot in the batting order, the automatic out is skipped and the batter whose name succeeds the vacant spot now becomes the batter of record."

Any idea how many 55 AAA are on that list?

Please add this to the rule...
You can NOT walk a batter to get to the "out " in the line up
If this happens, the "out" will be skipped and it goes to the next batter.
This is the way it is handled in the other associations
Just my 2 cents
Coop3636
PS.. I agree an ejection is too severe.

I am just trying to help promote the Franklin Tourney.
It will be the closest one to me all year (and still 3 hours away)
I talked it up at the SPA tourney, hopefully some other 55 AAA teams will come.

Dave
The appeal has to come after play has stopped.
I have never seen an appeal before play has stopped.
It is not an appeal if you just throw to the bag and the runner is called out during a live play
Is this not correct?

If there are less than 2 outs, the runner who missed the base is out , the run scores and play continues.
If there are 2 outs, the run does not count, the player who missed the bag is out, the inning is over (or half over)
If this is not correct, I am sure I will be told so.

From what I have heard, this is the last year for Pete to run SPA tournaments
(Just rumors I have heard)
It might be in his best interest to make the change now instead of later
It NEVER hurts to ask.
Pete is all about the softball players.
All he can say is YES, NO or HELL NO
