Hi Rod!

I wish you contacted me a couple of weeks ago. I was looking for 2 players. This is your very old friend, Andy Smith. Do you know what level of play you might want to join? If you need any help, just let me know. Are you playing out in Simi this winter? If so, let me know when, and I will stop by and say hi.

Rod,

I will be in and out all weekend, but in the general area. If you read this soon enough, you should come on out this Saturday for a 2-3 hour batting practice in Newbury Park. It is at Rancho Conejo Park, off of the 23 freeway at Ventu Park Road exit, turn right, and about 1/2 mile on the right. We start about 9 AM till whenever. We hit 2 buckets of balls and go have lunch with some of the guys. We should talk, because the senior tournament players are still great players, because most never stopped playing, just half are a bit slower, like me. I can still hit, field, and pitch. The leagues are not the same, because they are a mixture of age groups and not all are tournament players. I think you would be impressed with the tournament players, especially when you play within your age group and your ability level. There is also a small batting practice every Sunday morning at Madera at 9 AM, where everyone takes about 10 swings, then a pick up game around 10-10:30 AM. I usually do not go to that, but if I know you are going, I will show up. I usually do not answer my home phone, but my cell number is 805-814-9694. Try and go to the Saturday batting practice, as a lot of my tournament players will be there this Saturday. Look forward to hooking up with you soon.

Rocketman,

I hope you read this before trying to find Rancho Conejo Park. It is off the 101, not the 23, at Ventu Park Rd. Go thru 2 stoplights, and the park will be in your right where the road starts to bend to the left.

Thanks "pushin"-I knew immediately that Ventu Park didn't intersect with the 23-I'm a native around here,so I was familiar with the park-but appreciate your thoughtfulness and consideration.Had a vet appt.,so I couldn't attend. If you hear of any teams down the road that need players
(50-59?)-please pass along any info,BTW do you know Andy? have a nice weekend....Rod

Rod,

OOPPSS!! I do that all of the time. Before you join any team Rod, you may want to be aware of some of the rules, and I do not mean rules of the game. Give me a call and I will explain it all to you.

Take care,

Andy

Hey Rod,

Sorry that I could not take your call. I was on the phone with a client, with another call on hold. You can call me up to midnight, as I usually do not go to bed till then. I was not near my desk to take down your number. Look forward to talking with you tonight or tomorrow. I do not know if you still work, so maybe we can meet for lunch tomorrow, sometime after 1:30.

Take care,

Andy

Hi Dave(Monts39)---If you are on this website(ssusa)you can click on regions and link on California=on the left you will see a list of clubs/league from which you can select.I believe the most appropriate one for you would be the ncssa website(northern calif softball association) and you should be able to navigate from there-otherwise call Fran Dowell who is the tricounty dirctor for norhtern calif.and he should be able to direct you accordingly-his number is 916-326-5303. hope this helps Dave-nice to make your aquaintance.....Rod

Rod before you go and get yourself killed or worse Fran is a she and a lovely one to boot.

Dude how much money do you have because this may be an unrecoverable error on your part.

Good luck in the 50 major plus brackets in the coming 10 years or so.

Hey Norm!

How is golf going for you? Rod(Rocketman) is not the Rod that you know. Rod Baker is about 65, but this Rod is 58. I think Rod Baker may be playing 65's next season.

Our team just played in the Cal Cup, and we did rather well, considering one player got injured(me), and 2 were unable to attend. Met alot of the guys that are on this board. It was nice to put a face with the name. All very nice guys and good players. It was fun to joke around with them. We should be at full strength barring any other injuries or financial issues for our last 2 tournaments. This has been a tough season for us with season ending injuries and financial problems for many players.

It is correct that there will be no more Double Nickels, at least 2-3 years. We have discussed possibly reforming, when some of the other guys are eligible to play 60's. The 55 players are all going on other teams. 5 of us older guys are moving up to the 60's while we are the younger guys in that division. I plan on playing some 55's as a sub. I do not know exactly what level we should start out at, because I am not sure who all of the other players are that we are combining with. I would think 60 Major would be the proper level to begin. The good part for me is that I just have to show up, and not coach or manage. Doing everything was a bit too much. I have done this in the past for about 2 1/2 decades, but it got old like me. LOL!

Hope to see you playing again in the future.

Take Care,

Andy Smith,
Double Nickels,
Manager/Coach,
