This is how we need to play !!! The balls were great (Trump Rocks), hr rules were great (no limits), no ppr, and GREAT fields! I enjoyed catching up with Einstein, Joe L, Pete, Hank, Steve, Stoneman, Chip, John, Joe, Butch, Donnie and Carson.
Tomorrow should be another fun filled day! (I just hope I can hit a little better.)
SSUSA and SPA, take note!

I should have stated that we played at Lorenzi. Props to the umpires that called our games! They did their best to hustle out to second and third to make accurate calls.

Amen! We had a similar experience last weekend in the LVSSA 55M+ event. All of the rules you mentioned were great, including 7 runs per inning. You are correct that SSUSA and SPA should take notice. You don't need to go to Nashville in December to figure that out. Without the PPR, pitchers were just as safe as SSUSA, and those that wanted it, wore protective gear. LVSSA also does not obsess about over-classifying teams, which promotes a vibe of "bring it on" instead of " wahhh, those guys are too good, they should be moved up" Terry H.'s first stated goal for team ranking is "to protect the lower divisions". From what?? Three divisions at each age, with Vegas rules can do that just fine. Four division is an over-reaction to the desires of those who want to segregate and dilute competition off the field instead of winning on the field.
My only suggestion on the Vegas rules is that an HR limit (7-10 per game), then singles, would be better than unlimited. The ball was great, but the homer totals were a bit much in our division. Many commented that at Lorenzi, a homer should have to clear the screen instead of the 8-foot fence since the ball was so hot.

Good luck rest of the way in LV. Up close, don't you think Einstein really looks like David Crosby???
lol Joe!

They changed the HR rule today. The ball must clear the screen. Fun day again with many hrs. and many more great plays both in the infield and the outfield. The 60Maj+ has 8 really good teams. Should be a blast over the next two days.

Scott if you would see the park you would understand Lorenzi is a brand new facility and getting rave reviews from everyone I have spoken to. From homeplate the umps would be at a big disadvantage trying to figure out where along the screen it hit. LVSSA made a good rule change after the first weekend.

The 50 major plus is a blast some titantic home runs being hit. What a way to end the year we get to hit a good ball with lots of home runs against great competition whats not to like.

Lecak,
I have read many good posts about the park. Only thing that bothers me is that NO ONE thought about this before the games or at any time it seems.
Many parks we use here have screens above fences, are probably just like that, and I haven't heard of them changing the rule at all over it. Don't recall and one not being able to tell if it went over of not either... Maybe an eye exam in in order or perhaps it the umps got out from behind the plate for a better look might help...
If the players are satisfied for rational in that changes timing no problem. It just seems like reminders of other not so well thought out mid game, or season rule changes, that's all.
I look forward to playing there some time in the future... or at least seeing the park.

Just got back from the Vegas 55 Majors. Lorenzi is indeed a great facility. The balls were great and as everyone says we had no stupid rules. Just good hard nosed softball. I didn't think the umpires had any problems determining if the balls were home runs or not with the nets. If the ball hit the fence it was very easily heard. If the ball hit the net, there was no sound and ruled a home run. Also there wasn't a big ricochet off the net. Had a great time against some great competition.

This indeed is how it should be done!

No HR limits - 7 runs per inning - no PPR - AND with all this great softball no one feels they are getting cheated time wise. The games are getting played out with no artificial limitations in a great environment - great competition -
THIS is softball the way the game should be played. Even in a game we played with over 20 HR's hit the game went to 7 innings without an imposed loss of game time.

Today - we had FIVE guys grooming the field between games. Wow.

Las Vegas may be "sin city" but it's like heaven at the fields.

glad to hear ya all having a good time.i'm gonna assume this is all in the M+ div (no hr limits)as that would not be good in the lower div(would be to much sandbagging going on to win a ring).pete ya going to huntsman,i'll be there next sunday.

Bob - not going to make it this year. Was asked by some teams & decided not to go. Now that some are playing starting tomorrow I wish would have. It'll be the 1st I've missed in 6 years. Only 100 miles away in Vegas.

Yes - it was the M+ division. Turn 2 beat us in the championship game to take our bracket. Not sure who took the others.

Great tourney!

Bruce, you're a great hitter
as it showed in your last AB in last game together and nothing will ever change that.
What a blast!
Great weather, (though a bit windy
on Sunday), terrific balls,
yes, I said, terrific balls
and no PPR.
I watched the championship game
in 50 major plus between Gekle
and the Mavericks with the Biggest
most powerful senior hitters on the planet like Bully, and Waldyte
and Parnell and Sal and Jack
and that's only a few of the bombers
that were on the field
and only saw one ball go anywhere near
either pitcher and they were pitching
almost exclusively from the nearest
point in the rubber.
That's what I've been trying to point out the entire time that pitchers
are safer with unlimited HRs or HRs
as singles and again it was proven
to be true.
The umping was good to very good
with the very good being Dave Barnes
an old adversary of mine being behind the plate on field 1 where we played most of our games.
He was energetic, involved, in control,
explained just enough and was remarkably
consistent throughout the weekend.
Easily as good an umping job
as I have ever experienced
in Seniors over the course of a whole tournament.
Thanks, Dave and way to go.
The grounds crews and administrators
where everywhere smiling and doing
and hand shaking providing terrific
support and ambiance for the whole event.
The fields at Lorenzi were redone and they're wonderful.
Thanks to Bam, Stoneman and all those
responsible for putting on the best tournament, to date, for seniors
evidencing once and for all
how we want and deserve to be taken care of from now on.
You guys who missed Vegas
missed the best tournament of the year
so far and it will only be better
next year.
Thanks to everyone involved.
We got beat by Clatter's Warriors
again in our 4 game on Sunday.
Butchie, Clatter, Boomer, Andy and the rest are champions and played better
than we did that last game
and deserve their rings.
My guys, the Old A's played well and hard and showed a lot of grit
running through the losers bracket
to make it back to the championship.
Congratulations guys and coach
Randy Fithian for a job well done.
The balls need to be as good or very close to the caliber of balls
we experienced in Vegas.
They were Trump Microcel 44x375 balls
and they sounded all right, fielded
all right and threw all right
but mainly they hit more than all right
and we don't want to play
with significantly lesser balls.
If we have to go to a higher comp/compression ball
to achieve the desired result
let's go but we know now
thanks to Las Vegas
the tournaments we want to have
and will only support in the future.
All the associations I'm sure are listening and better take notice.
Way to go, Las Vegas.

Couple of little tweeks - 1 and 1 count for all games and at least 70 foot bases.

Lorenzi is nice. Infield fringe needs to be cut back some.

Hey J.
Love the 1-1 count
but don't like 70 foot bases
as I don't like the movement
to making the parks bigger i.e.
325 feet.
It will kill outfielders more
having to cover all that ground.

Hey Ray,
That was quite a crop of monsters
you trotted on the field to face
the Mavericks having beaten them
already in the seeding game.
You're pitcher is a one of the best
I've ever seen.
It was great seeing, Wally, Jack,
Stick and the boys.
We'll get another run at the Mavericks
in Phoenix.

The Mavericks know they're all wearing
targets and they'll do whatever they
have to, to rally the troops.
They're very tough but they can be beat.

We worked our way back
from the loser's bracket
to Clatter's team
in the finals then went flat in a couple of innings and escorted them to the championship.
They're always tough and know how to play tough in the big games.

Great seeing you and Jack, Wally and the guys and
complements again on fielding such a terrific team.

That pitcher you have
is a monster.
See you in Phoenix.

Well Joe when you win every tournament you play for a couple years that might put a target on your back or set the standard that other M+ teams must achieve to compete. We are a first year M+ team as you know,so it's been a good lesson for us.I think we are heading in the right direction(right at'em )instead of playing were there not.We will have seen them in 4 tourneys by seasons end and those are the games that we base our progress on.Mavs are the model for 50 M+ any World Championship in 50 M+ will have to include beating the champs (Mavs)or it doesn't mean squat.Great team ran by a committed and determined coach.See ya in PHX.
