I have been asked to umpire in our league and can find no Senior slow pitch rulebooks in sporting goods stores in the Portland-Vancouver (WA) area. Does anyone know who sells them?

The SSUSA office is in the process of printing the 2005 Rule Book edition at this time ... Am not sure how soon it will be available, but historically it can be had by purchase for a nominal fee directly from the Home Office ... DAVE

Many senior leagues change softball rules to fit their own players wishes. Example: In the Vancouver Wa. senior league , there is no sliding , and have only force playes at all bases . I suggest you contact the league commish and ask what association rules they are using and what , if any , changes have been made to those rules. Vancouver will let their players use about any softball bat made, no expections, whereas some associations will not allow some bats which they have banned. Check with your league they will have your answers.

I have written the special rules for several senior leagues, and I tend to go with the association that the park plays (ASA, NSA, etc.) then I add league rules for the count, time limit, runs per inning, strikes (I always give a 6 - 12' arch regardless of the park's association), home runs (I always figure that seniors deserve any home runs they hit, so if the teams are pretty equal, I make them all doubles, if they are unequal, I make one and then all others as singles), scoring, and sliding. If you give me an E-mail or FAX, I would be glad to send you an example.
