Wood bat for practice
Heard the other day that hitting a wood bat in bp will help you game swing. Your thoughts???

I'd like to weigh in on this one. I have mixed feelings, although I pull out my orange crush techfire for practice occasionally. The sweet spot is so much smaller on a wood bat, or my OC that it gets your concentration sharpened to hit the ball well with it. It is like playing snooker on a 9 foot table for a month and then getting on a 7 foot bar pool table. The balls look like basketballs and the pockets look like caverns. If you hit the ball well with a wood bat, you will be sharper with the U2. However, the optimum bat swing is different, at least for me, with the U2 and I have to readjust when I go back to it. I do believe, though, that it can be beneficial overall.

I gave it a try. The only wood bat I have is a old baseball bat that weights more than I do so it was hard to get around. It was a real workout and found that when I returned to my Vet it felt like a toothpick. So I now use the wood bat one day a week for a workout and to pinpoint my contact with the ball. I think there is a increase in bat speed by using the wood bat. Overall it is a great workout.

I think you should swing a bat that has the same weight and balance in BP as you do in a game.

Agreed; if your gamer feels featherlight from practicing with a heavy bat the tendency will be to hit everything 50' foul if you're a pull hitter.

I agree with the game bat part. We play on Saturdays so I am using the wood bat on Monday's for a bp workout. By Saturday buy picture perfect (lol) swing is back.
To use this and then have to play games the next day would not work for me. It is more of a workout tool.

i have a heavy metal bat and wood both are 32oz approx that i use for tee work when doing my macenko bat speed drill, along with my gamer weight,26 oz and a 24 oz for the light one.i will alternate these 3 weights at 20 swings each and go for 3 rounds with each bat weight.work it ,light, heavy, gamer than repeat a couple of times.
i will also use the wood when doing bp for one of round,if gonna do more than a couple of rounds,at least 3.
