March 30 Stones 1B Men's 55 52 posts | As far as bat tapers or tape to build up the knob area...if I am not mistaken the rule is that the taper/tape can be no more than 1/4" from the end of the knob. The endof the knob to the taper/tape needs to be at least 1/4". It's in the ASA rule book under Altered Bats...Good Luck |
March 30 Gary Heifner 248 posts | Good point. However, I don't think there are really a whole bunch of people on this site who really give a rip about anything the ASA says or does. I know hundreds of senior players all of whom no longer play in any ASA events. ASA done wonders in helping the SSWC and SPA grow. |

April 3 Robo2 238 posts | I believe the reason for the rule was to prevent altering a bat by extending the bat and covering up the seam. I don't think this is an issue any more. As far as I'm concerned, let the players tape the end to their own comfort. |
April 4 KansasCo 8 posts | I was wondering if SPA make you remove the tape. I tape the knob for grip because of my hands. I don't cheat and will remove the tape if needed. It's no big deal to me but I do like the comfort the tape when dropping my little finger over the end of the bat. Thanks for any help you can give me. |
April 4 jc24 96 posts | I believe in last months "Seniors Magazine" there was a section about taping on the handel, only a quarter inch to the handel or half inch...THAT'S IT... Someone help me on this one to help this guy. I like the knob myself, helps me! |

April 4 the wood Men's 65 1123 posts | I'm not certain what is meant by 'no more than a 1/4 " from the knob' but I do understand 'only two times around the handle'. I guess my real question is why we even worry about this element when bats are being shaved and end-loaded and are seeing their way into tournament games. If someone rips the rubber grip off his/her bat and replaces it with 3 (or 6 layers of tape)... why is this an issue? It isn't as thick as the Easton cone grip. Is 3 layers of tape thicker than the original rubber grip? I apparently need some guidance here... but be gentle. |
