Discussion: Its Unanimous - The Best Senior Softball Players Are in California and Florida

lets play a tournie where all the players have to be from the same city.that would be a true test.i know our team pace will play .i know the best players in numbers are from florida and cal.this is a fact and everyone knows it.i have not played many if any teams that are major and major plus that are from the same city.this is a major problem when teams are forced to move up.teams that are not from the sun states are limited on the amount and quality of the players they need to add to compete against the powerhouses.whereas the sun states just reload from players within and touching state.not complaining because we choose to keep our players and recruit from within but we really dont have any choice.as it is rochester new york has at least 6 teams playing in the senior circuit without picking up any players from outside the city.i wish all cities competed instead of states then we would see a true champion and would in my opinion have less confusion and conflicts.when you choose to recriut players from all over to create a superteam you automatically are cutting down your competition.there will be less and less high caliber teams because all the high caliber players are on the same teams.less teams will be entered in a tournie and then everyone says where are the teams?why doesnt anyone want to play us?if you have a 15 man roster and are a major major plus team and out of these 15 players you took 3 players from 5 different areas that could affect the areas you took these players from.teams can disband or drop down a level because of this.some areas need to pickup players to be able to field a team from their area but for the most part in major and major plus players are picked up to become better.this is fine but lets not complain when noone plays us.happy holidays pace#11

don you are right on.i suggest that there should be 3 divisions aaa, major that draws players within 75 miles and open teams where you can draw players from anywhere.why should you be forced to play major plus.for my team to play major plus i would have to recruit players from other teams (if possible)other states (if possible)and then release numerous players off my roster.where would the comraderie and loyalty come from.should we set aside our morals to compete in major plus?if my team has to move up i have no choice unless i disband.disbanding is not an option.we will play but most teams have no idea how good the major plus teams are.its hard enough to play the major teams which many of them are allstar teams with players from different cities and different states.my team pace is from the same area and will stay together despite the ridiculous rules.stay safe pace11

dr j you are right you followed the rules and won.now the rules say you have to move up.that is your reward for winning.i agree the rules need to be addressed and somehow logical people cannot come up with a logical answer.your team at least wins in majors.more than you lose and can draw from a larger pool of players.what happens to the teams that win 1 4 team tournie and gets moved up and competes with the same players year in and year out.consider yourself lucky to at least commit the crime before going to the firing squad.congrats on your wins and keep on hitting.your team has always played with class and heart.pace#11

andy good luck in vegas.we play u in the first game.you dont have to answer about your rating last year at all.the only problem i have is that you stay out west and question other teams who are rated aaa and are playing according to the rules.they are ranked aaa thus they are in vegas playing aaa.joe b's players are having the success this year because they play hard and with the same guys year after year.good for them.we should be patting them on the back instead of stabbing them.hawaii came in third last year behind our 2 teams when you yourself say you were a aaa team.so why would they play major this year.i wish all the teams good luck and safe playing and look forward to some great competition against some great competitors and like you wish there were more teams.have not played in one major tourney with more than 4 teams.stay safe and keep hitting jr pace #11

Discussion: Balls and All

the micro ball was great to hit but it was hard to field.the ball picked up speed thru the inf on ground balls faster than most balls.the ball acted like a tire and seemed to dig in and go faster at the same time.if the batter hit spin on the ball it was very hard to read what the grounders were going to do.when you hit it felt like a trampoline or tennis racket.the weather was hot and the balls flew.loved hitting it but not fielding it.i am for good balls first and good bats second.the ball should always be good.went to a tourney in connecticut this year with temperatures in the high 80s and hit the 40-375 ball and it sucked.we were playing at 200 ft.that is not softball.only saw 1 hr and that was @8am.nothing close to the fence after that.joe you are in the majority.you are right it is time for a revolution viva the revolution viva einstein, keep on hitting. god bless homer's family he was a great player whenever we ran into each other we always shook hands.what a hitter ,he will be missed jr#11 pace

Discussion: half swings

lecak,i agree it is an art.without the good balls and bats this skill would be history.i have played with the kids and with the senior circut and not once have i seen someone called out for the chop.when we were young we were called out for the chop more often then not and noone tried the soft swing because it wouldnt work.i prefer to take a full swing the way that the game was meant to play and by no means do i take away the fact that hitting the lob or chop is a skill i just feel that these swings are not the way the game should be played with the equipment we have today

Discussion: half swings

i am sick of players complaining about good balls and good bats and then take half swings and baltimore chops .some players can do both.i realize this is a skill but a skill i do not want to pursue.it is hard enough to play defense as it is with the good balls and bats but it can be very dangerous for the inf. to move in to take away the chop and or half swing.i believe that both the half swing and chop should be outlawed.if not both at least one.the young kids are doing this in d&e ball.our game is changing from homeruns and place hitting to no homeruns and semi swings.am i the only one who dislikes this?its like golfing without your woods or racing 4 cylinder cars keep on hitting jr11

Discussion: whyWhy is it all offense instead of defense

barry defense keeps you in the game and gives you a chance.the team that pops up the most thus making easy outs is usually the loser.the advantage of being a good hitting team is that sometimes you can outhit your mistakes.because of the speed of the hits your defensive range is limited.you have to make the plays when you can get to the ball ,if you make the plays you can, you have a chance to win.today i bet 15-20%of your on base % is errors.the balls are hit way harder and more often than when we were kids

Discussion: lets move up good defenses

since we make good hitting teams move up lets move up good defensive teams.its crazy penalizing hrs.just because you can hit hrs doesnt mean you are a major player.teams should be moved up based on winning and not hrs.do we have so many senior players that we can revamp our roster to suit our playing rank?i know in my area we dont.we havent had a new player on our team in 5 years.hearing that hrs rules require teams to have to play defense like we use to do when we were young is untrue.i did not play in 1 aaa tourney game where the winning team didnt score at least 15 runs and that was with the run restrictions.the year before in major 20 runs was a minimum win.the best way to rank teams is by wins only.we already have too many restrictions now why do we need more.no one tells the player that makes diving catches to quit diving.nobody tells the guys that can run like deer to quit taking the extra base.why should hitting be so different.there should only be 2 divisions.if you want to travel and play thats your choice.when we were younger only the good teams travelled now everyone thinks they should have a chance to win which is against the purity of sports which is to be the best you have to play and beat the best.everyone wants that chance to win but it is improbable.today they have d and e teams in the young guys tournies. this is where all the teams are.we are catering to the bottom teams instead of the top teams.the fact is this problem with softball today was the result of the hr rule put in during the 80's.it has ruined softball for todays young players they will never have the pleasure that we had in our youth.all i am saying is restrictions and complaints are getting out of hand.lets play the game ,the game we have played out of love all these years.back to basics hitting and hopefully defense and less complaining.no more calling up td and complaining about teams you never even seen play.we need to take our game back.we should have more say.would you play golf if you could not use your driver?stay safe and keep hitting #11 pace

Discussion: 55 Major

ken i think #7 was busting your chops just like the start of this thread.dont be so sensitive.you have to appreciate the sarcasm when he says ss-usa should move you up to major plus.the way things are going in senior softball that could become a fact.we know too well what is happening and have no control over what will happen.every team from new york state got moved up.the rochester 50 team wasnt even the best team in rochester but got moved up with gubiottis.teams that finished higher in tournies they went to and the toc didnt move up.why? how come?they didnt have enough players to play in loudon so they used some of ours and won.since then they were able to field a team and never came close to winning.the problem with our area is that we cant recruit any new players so when teams move up unfairly they are behind the 8 ball.when you and other teams in the nice weather area move up it is easier to recruit.i remember your post asking for new players, which as a coach and player makes me jealous.congrats on your win and hope you win many more.stay safe and keep hitting jr pace#11

Discussion: Spa Ratings compared to SSUSA ratings

my opinion is i would combine aa&aaa into 2 divisions gold and silver.the teams that win in silver move 2 gold and teams losing in gold move to silver.win 2 majors within in your age group 50-54 55-59 etc automatic move up to higher division.next division would be for major teams that draw players from 50-75 mile radius.after winning 2 majors in age group automatic move up. weaker teams may move down.the last division would be for teams who draw from all over the state and touching states.maybe even pick up whoever you want from anywhere.this would be your major plus.any team that doesnt want to play in major plus just recruit from 50- 75 miles .this is just my opinion.when we were moved up to major we moved up with the same team other teams that moved up with us were able to recruit many new players and some are in major plus today.they got better every year.where as we are still the same team.not complaining but sunshine states can get on this web site and recruit new players for their team instantly.as far as the ssusa ratings they changed the rules but keep the same criteria for moveups.we would not have won in dalton with the rules that are in place now.some teams move up without winning a national tournament nor come in the top 5 while other teams win and dont move up.homeruns and run differential(prelim games)shouldnt be the criteria.it should be based on winning over a period of time.in 8 team tournies getting on a roll can happen to any team our age.i have played in many senior tournies and i believe that out of 100 tournies ,2 would have positively had the same winner.pine knob in canada and extra innings in manasses and that was in 2004.i think there is too much complaining(which has caused our problems)and now not enough listening.this is just my opinion.i love playing and would like to keep it going.stay safe and keep hitting jr#11pace

thanks chuck,i just did what i said not to do.you should know the facts before you talk.i saw one game and passed judgement on a team that probably were on their 5th game in one day.this is a problem.i tried to find out the name of the team before i posted without success.i used another team to prove a point, that was wrong and i am truly sorry.i take full responsibility for my comment.it takes one word to bring a person down but many to get that person up.keep hitting and stay safe jr

chuck how about that calf. team you played in 2006.they hit 17 hrs against you and you hit none but you still won by hitting singles and doubles.never heard your team complaining.you went on to lose to us in the if game.there were 2 hrs hit in the 2 finals both by us.should that calf. team be put into majors when they couldnt win a triple a tourney?according to some they should, their defense was weak and they only had 11 players.they could hit but would have gotten murdered in majors.roberts is an elite team now maybe it was there first year or maybe there are other reasons why they were aaa but to suggest they were sandbaggers without knowing the facts is unfair.we should expect better from old men but are getting the worse.chuck will cya soon stay safe.jr pace #11

pete i dont think the voice lessons are working.i dont think the rules should be changing from year to year either.we will play whatever the rules are.someone sees one game and they know everything.if it was that simple why play in the tourney if everyone knows the winner.we spent over $60,000 this year to be called sandbaggers.these know it alls must be banned from vegas because they know who will win the world series, super bowl and the kentucky derby.these complainers are in another world.they have no idea how good and dedicated the major and major plus teams are.you cannot have a bad inning agaINST THEM.you have to play at over 100%of your ability and hope they are off to be competitive with them consistently.teams dont want to move up and lose and spend money doing so.i dont blame them but most of these teams dont or wont move up but are willing to point out other teams that have at least tried.got to get back to my screenplay that i will be submitted to double nickel productions in hollywood.maybe andy will see that the screenplay gets in the proper hands.stay safe i missed bob in florida.

i am the player coach of pace from new york that is accused of being sandbaggers and afraid to play major by know it alls.yes it is true that in back to back games in dalton we hit 20 hrs.here is some background for the whiners.we play out of rochester ny.all 19 players live within 25 miles of each other and have played with and against each other our whole lives.we do not draw from outside the area.we have played major 2yrs out of the 6yrs i played.last year we were 1-13 in the major tourneys we played getting run ruled in 10 of those games.we were eliminated by 9am on fri.in ks.we had a way better team last year when we could use 50's than this year.this year we played in cleveland placing 2nd out of 8 teams.the teams were rated aa-major.we hit 8 hrs in 8 games.we then went to salem where we were run ruled in the 55' final. we hit 1 hr in 8 games.on to pa. where we won against 2aa,1 60'saaa.we hit 4hrs in 6 games.we scored 5 runs with 2 outs and noone on in bottom 7th to beat romans.we played in panama city where we got run ruled in a 4 team tourney to finish 2nd again.we hit 1 hr in 5 games there.this brings our hr total at 14 in 29 games.softball is a game where one minute you are a hero another moment you are the goat.everyone who travels will have his day in the sun.even the worst player in the world can go 4-4.it is a game of momentum and competion.playing against certain teams can bring the best out of you.hitting is contagious.add the wind ,the ball and bat to momentum and anything can happen.we are a good team who got hot live with it.we certainly dont travel all over the country to sandbag.we play everybody and try to win.in 6 years i have not seen 1 team play the amount of players we do.after the 20hrs in 2 games we hit 2.in the championship game we were out hr 1-0.the wind was blowing in.we also had luck behind us winning against cj's express 33-32 when there runner touched home in the 7th with basesloaded for the last out.we proceeded to score 4 to win the winning hit off the tip of the rcf glove.in the final game we scored 6runs after the of pulled up hurt on a easy out in the bottom of the 5th with 2 outs and noone on.after dalton we went to vegas.before we left i got a call from the td who informed me that the 2 calf. teams were complaining about our ratings.i told the td that if it was a problem we will give everyone 5 runs.(this didnt happen)when i looked at the ususa 55 ratings these teams were major and this was a aaa tourney.we didnt complain we were there to play.needless to say we were 0-3 against these calf.teams.we finished 5-4 and second place to a very good double nickel team.we hit 16 hrs in the 9 games.the reason for this long rant is to state the facts about our team.also to point out that people should be held accountable for what they say.there are too many snide remarks by people that speak without thinking or not caring.this is why senior softball is becoming a joke.the reason for all these new changes are a result of all the teams complaining to tds.a td cant pick up a phone without some sherlock holmes at the other end saying he has uncovered new evidence.my team has never complained once on the comp we have played.here is a fact aaa players do it sometime major players do it often and major plus do it all the time.i cannot take back the hr barrage in dalton nor would i want to but to demean another team who has played by the rules for 6 years is unfair.ask romans, double nickel, steel dawgs, motown stars,pj,s express,stancil's,monsters,hawaii55's if they would like to play us again and the answer would be bringem on.people should quit whining and start working on the game they love.you are making it worse than better.remember you cant win it unless your in it.stay save jr.pace#11

remember to clear this through the proper channels because some assns reserve the right to change the rules as they see fit.this is not a put down but a fact,it depends on the player and team and also the number of players that are being used to drop down.they may not let a whole team drop down even though i have seen it in the past doesnt mean the rule is the same for all situations.if you read the ususa &spa rules you will see the quote that it is at their discretion to change the rules for this situation and others

Discussion: Somebody needs to say it!

we should be asking ourselves why are we making these changes?there is a trust issue here.is the new ball for the players benefit?if so why are we using the 40 and 44 ball in the first place?when i first started playing senior ball we were using 47 and 50 balls.those balls were safer but were changed.why?in vegas this year i never saw so many hard hit balls.i bet 40 of the hits would be placed in my top 100 hit balls i have seen.as seniors we have been asked to make numerous changes that cost us money and in some cases injury for reasons that are not to our benefit.the assn.have been letting us hit the unsafe ball for years now.all we should do is go back to the 47 and 50.we spent alot of money to go to salem va to play softball at 240 ft. because the balls suck.why are we as seniors asked to make needless changes?it is bad enough that we have to buy cards and also pay sanction fees.i am losing trust and confidence in the powers that be.i love playing softball which is a simple game that is starting to get too complicated and too expensive.stay safe and keep hitting.i need to see a lawyer so i can keep up on all these rules.
