Discussion: Roommate needed in Phoenix

Looking for a roommate on Sunday, Nov. 18 ONLY. Evidently I'm the only player staying over from the weekend. Would like to share the $90 cost at the Residence Inn. Maybe someone else wants to stay an extra day and is flying home on Monday.

I would love to see 11 fielders all the time (not 12, 13, or 14!). I think anything that would bring batting averages down along with runs would be great. Runs are not PRECIOUS in softball; OUTS are. That's why a lot of teams count sacrifice flies as a time at bat. It almost always favors the defense.

I agree that we need a 3-game seed. As for the calculating of the tie-breakers for seeding purposes, I gave Terry H. a simple Excel program that will calculate it in seconds. The problem is that Dave may be the only TD that owns a laptop.

I guess our team (the Silver Sox) played both of the 5 inning games in the 65-70 division, because we had 2 of those, 4 six-inning games and only 1 seven-inning game. Doesn't seem long enough to me, either.

Discussion: On Base Percentage (OBP)

The only problem with this discussion is that reaching on an error doesn't count as being "on base" (at least in baseball scorekeeping). Errors are mostly luck, sometimes because of speed.

Also, a walk has never moved a runner from 1st to 3rd like a hit does.

I would sure love to see the base distance changed from 65' to 70'. It would lower the high scores we currently have and would put much more emphasis on defense!

Discussion: Feedback on this idea?

I definitely agree. When we won the winner's bracket in Laughlin this year we lost the flip for the championship game. We lost that game and lost the flip in the if game as well. Luckily we won that one to win it.

Discussion: mandatory move ups....

I think the key is the number of teams. Someone winning a tournament with 6 teams isn't that big of a deal. After all, SOMEONE has to win it no matter how good the teams are.

Thanks for that. I think in our game another player substituted, so there would be no out, but in the 65 AAA game they must have just reduced the batting order.

Discussion: Out or no out after injury?

In the 65 AAA division in Reno there was a bad injury that sent a player to the hospital. The umpire forced that team to take an out when the departed player's spot in the lineup came up.

In the 60 AAA division in Reno, a LF dislocated a finger and came out of the game, and the umpire said they didn't have to take an out because of a recent rule change. Who was right?

I'm sure it's just down for now. Says it was changed on 3/9, so they're probably working on the page as I type.

I'm not sure about the 1 & 1 count. The games I have played in seem to have a lot more walks. The games might even take longer!
