Discussion: I-15 to St. George

Is anyone aware if there is any construction on this road from Mesquite to St. George? Last year was a nightmare going to St. George if you stayed in Mesquite.

Discussion: What does it take to get an SSUSA tourney in your town

SSUSA staff what are the procedures to try and get a tournament in a town. I live in Las Cruces, NM and we have 8 mens softball fields and 3 womens fields. Plenty of sunshine for those that like batting with the sun in there eyes lol. Thanks

I cannot believe at our age people are still questioning our manhood and trying to prove how tough they are. Many of us have participated in competitive sports at a high level for many years. Some of us were fortunate enough to play in college others went on to amatuer and professional ranks. I remember the days playing hockey from ages 12-21 w/o a helmet & getting several concussions, knocked out teeth broken noses but continued on. How about the days we played HS football and the concussion protocal was if the coach put up 2 fingers u saw 3. They said close enough get out there. Baseball w/o batting helmets that was always fun. Basketball cutting across the middle and having a big man elbow u in the nose or someone undercut you going to the basket. I'm sure these are all memories many have experienced if they played any of these sports. One more experience I had in my 50's was racing BMX bikes with my kids. I started at 50 quit by age 53 suffering 6 concussions, seperated left shoulder, broken ribs, nerve damage, sciatica injury and getting my groin impaled on handle bars. I have always played with a reckless abandon. Just this past Worlds in Vegas I crashed into a wall at BLD (not the 1st wall or fence I've crashed into)and separated my right shoulder and suffered another concussion at the ripe age of 62 playing 55AAA. I'm not fully recovered yet but when I am and go back to the outfield forgive me for pulling up short and thinking of my health. If that's whiney or wimpy "So Be It". With all that said the sun in your eyes while hitting is not a safety issue. Glad the rule is gone. I have played in several of those games in SSUSA and USSSA. Just get up there and have at it. One time I tried swinging the bat with one hand while my other I used my cap to shield the sun. Webbie hope your feeling better than the last time I saw you. Win, lose, rain, snow, wind or sun we all know the beer will taste good at the end of the day and tourney.

Discussion: Expected Tentative Field Assignments for Winter Worlds Phoenix

Gentlemen, This is always a tough issue for both sides. Over the past 5 or so years I have come up with my own solution. One I am sure others have found as well. I personall prefer to book rooms in advance by several months. I have found the prices are cheaper than when the date of an event is scheduled. as for places like Phoenix and Vegas. I book a couple of rooms on opposite sides of town. In Phoenix its usually Scottsdale and Phoenix close enough to Rose Mofford and Desert West. Vegas is usually Henderson and The Strip. You have plenty of time to cancel the room you don't need. Works for me but that's just my 2-cents.

Discussion: Where to get a pitching screen

Our coach has the pitchsafe net and I have the powernet. The pitchsafe is $300. The powernet is $80 on ebay. The powernet goes up quicker and is lighter than the pitchsafe. Only problem I see with the powernet. You should stake it down. When the ball hits the net, the net will lean backwards toward the pitcher. I don't stake mine down, I just pitch and take a step back. The pitchsafe appears to stay in place better. JMO

First, I would like to say Congratulations to the So. Cal. Braves. Well deserving, Great group of guys. I was unable to attend Worlds last year due to a shoulder injury. I had apprehensions about attending this year, glad I changed my mind and went. We got to play 8 different teams (Dayton Legends, KC Big Daddys, KC Renegades, Minn. Speedwerx, Wash. Spin Tees, Alb.Desperados, Az. Old School, Hawaii Jus E Nuff). The umpires did an outstanding job and made the game all about us not them. The staff at the BLD complex gratious and friendly as always. Every team we played were competitive and great guys. Reminded me what senior softball was all about. Good competition and comraderie. I want to thank team Tuf-E-Nuff for your concern over my injury during our game. In case, you are wondering how I'm doing. I suffered a mild concussion and slight separated shoulder. Not bad considering how bad I felt yesterday and last night. Just a few weeks rest and some cold beer and I'll be good as new. Hope everyone got home safe and healthy. Rest up and hopefully see some of you guys in Phoenix in November

Discussion: Looking up past tourney attendance & results

I know we are able to find results of past World Championships. I was wondering if there is a way to find out about participating teams and results of other Ring Tourneys. The reason for this question is it would help players and coaches decide if a particular tourney was worth going to, based on past participation. On many occasions there may not be enough teams in your age and division participating.

Discussion: Pay to play a quality tournament

It appears this tourney is a non-qualifier. This is the reason I don't play non-qualifiers in Az anymore. They play 3 pool games and a single elimination on Sunday. Who needs 3 practice/warm-up games. Especially, if you only have 10-12 players and your team is older. Alot of these tourneys don't announce the format until you arrive and it's to late to cancel anything.

Congrats to Oxnard Rookies and So Cal Braves. We (NM Outlaws) have played Braves 6 times between Winter Worlds and Spring Worlds. They are a great bunch of guys for Californians. lol Never got to play the Rookies but they sure seem to have fun playing the game. All the teams we have played to date have been competitive and good guys. See the Braves in Vegas and have a safe trip there.
