Discussion: Any results yet for the 50 major?

Billy did play Major Plus last year in the 40's so that carries over. Someone text me from Thunderstruck stating that K&M, LCW and Bad Seed are illegal as well. Seems like this person is worried, I know Bad Seed was not illegal by any means if anything we may have had 2 Major Plus players which fits the bill. Can't speak on behalf of the others. But if Bad Seed was illegal by his accusation then I feel really bad we didn't make it to the Ship

So 60% of the roster is Major Plus, this is like playing in the USSSA E program with players who at one time played upper ball, said roster would not be approved or allowed and could be protested. Too many Grey Area in SSUSA. One example is Bryson Baker plays Conference ball and would be eligible to play Major based on SSUSA rules. This is why there must be player rankings and no loopholes. I play where I belong and would not use excuses of injury. If I am injured I would sit out and heal or quit.

Dave i know its a tough job as I am a director and have to answer why teams are legal or possibly illegal to pass this off to someone else is unacceptable. Somebody has to take owner ship and to keep pushing it off makes me think that what everyone is bringing up is valid and no one wants to admit the wrong doing. I sent an email earlier with facts that I have. Without being able to see the rosters and make comparisons is tough for managers or players to speak to. All we can see is who is on the field. Did Thunderstruck play their full roster at Nationals compared to the State Championship they won? I can say NO as one player was in Lincoln playing int he 55's while Thunderstruck was at Maidu. That player is a big part of their success so I wonder who else they were missing???

SSUSA Staff, for us to provide identifiable information should be something us players shouldn't need to do. We have played this game long enough and know who should and shouldn't belong. This is your job to review all rosters as we pay $750 not to do your job. Sure the excuse will be we have over 600+ teams and can't police it all!! Personally don't want to hear it. If teams are paying that price then someone on your team should be looking at rosters and checking where some of these Major Plus players came from. I enjoy playing the game on a level playing field but when a team is Major in States with a questionable roster then wins the event based on Injury Exception rules then somehow a revision to that rule is posted on the Home Page and said team is moved to Major Plus for the National and is missing some key players and basically tanks it then is out back in Major for the Vegas Championships is considered a mockery and black eye on the program. To satisfy one team when you have teams coming from all over the nation thinking the rules are enforced for all and its not is a shame and a waste of money on their behalf. If players have played Major Plus in the past that ranking should carry until proven otherwise they played their for a reason regardless of age. Put 7 Major Plus players on a team and surround them with other good players and that is one heck of a Major team based on your rule. Always seems to happen when it comes to this event.

I know the guys well from Thunderstruck. One plays 55 Major Plus with Sommerville. A few others were Major Plus possibly from MTC. One from a 40 Major Plus roster that is eligible to play 50 this year. Rating index means nothing to me its all about experience and some of those players have great bat control for their age and can teach some of us that. They have the experience and past history that is being overlooked to teams that are playing by the rules which are not the same for everyone. Regardless of age or possible injuries there are loop holes and teams have exploited them to their advantage.

That park was not a place i would put teams at especially a 50 major Winners bracket game. No Concessions or bathrooms. Teams pay $750 and got stuck there. Definitely not a good choice on SSUSA's part. All about the benjamins.

Discussion: Team Ranking Updated After Tournament

So here it goes. Played in the NorCal State Championships in the 50 Major. The team that won the event was originally a Major Plus team prior to Rock N Reno and did not play. But they were able to get reclassed to Major for the NorCal States. My question is shouldn't the team establish themselves before playing in a tournament of this magnitude? Now that they won it they got moved back to Major Plus. Seems a bit funny how that happened when every team knew they were a Major Plus team except for the staff. There needs to be a rule in place for any team petitioning to play at the level they are assigned before being considered to drop.

Discussion: which do your prefer on a 5 game guarantee?

I feel the Pool Play games should have some meaning and the higher seeds get Home Team in bracket play. Currently there is no incentive to play to win if you are not offered some type of reward for placing high in seed. Its a coin flip all the way through the bracket games.

Discussion: 40's USA Championship Game Auto Seeds 1 and 2 Regardless

So even though this was covered in the manager meeting prior to the start of the 40's event this past weekend in Vegas, why was it not posted on the bracket boards. Everythinbg else is and this is a major piece missed when teams are looking at potential seeds to see where we might fall. Also, what do past events have to do with teams that are paying $695 entry fee and prior to the start of Pool Play two teams already have Seeds 1 and 2 locked up regardless of what there record is. This to me and to others is just idicoy, this has nothing to do with the format for past winners. So basically the other 32 teamas are playing for the third seed on. Seems rather unfair wehn teams are battling and trying to do what they can to fall in the top 3. If this was not part of the rule our team would have been the 2 seed and not 4. Seems like there are special circumstances for some events.

Discussion: Why is this rule not enforced??

I was at BLD this past weekend and the box rul in games I played in or watcher were not enforced. Some batters were out of the box by inches to a foot and not called. So regardless it is not being called as rule book states.

Discussion: What Determines a Team being Bumped Or Downgraded

titanhd,

I read that but still its vague, doesn't say anything about overall scores, homeruns or anything. Asking umpires for their comments is not acceptable they can just say no they are fine if they have a good relationship with them. The system is flawed a team in my localk area was bumped to plus not sure why but another team that won States and Nationals in the same year was not bumped. That same team won the Nationals again. Something just doesn't seem right when it comes to reviewing teams. This association makes $$$ hand over fist and should be doing a better job after each event looking at scores, homesruns hit by the winning team and seeing how many times they scored 5 runs an inning as well as when they were home team as that skews the ending score if they win by 5 runs or less.

Discussion: What Determines a Team being Bumped Or Downgraded

My question is how does a team get bumped from Major to Major Plus seems like some teams get it early and others just get overlooked. What is the criteria? I heard through the mill that the committee looks at run differential and if that is true its not looking at the full picture if said team is Home team in most of their games. My feeling is the scorecards should be reviewed all scores logged as well as how many homeruns are hit by that team per game. There is one team here that should have been bumped last year and logged some results for a year and if they are not doing well then petition to be downgraded. I feel the system is flawed and needs to be understood on how teams are looked at when being upgraded or downgraded. What are the steps?

Discussion: Runs Scored vs. Runs Allowed

I appreciate the follow up on all three items. Though as I run events in my area and we agree to disagree on what was brought up.

1)Sure the higher seed gets to play a lower seed but like you said a team could bat all there players for time and not care and then when it comes to the bracket the games they sit those players for a stronger lineup and get those hitters up more. Thus the better seed regardless should be the Home team. We can go back and forth all day on this but it is conceivable your product and the suggestions are just trying to help make it better.

2) Runs Scored, sure defense is important but we are talking guys 40 and up and don't have the range like we did back in our 20's. The point of running it up is a tough one to grasp as we only get 5 runs an inning until the open inning and there are times where a team will score no runs in that open inning to so call run it up. This is why in Pool Play you take the Visitor to get your last at bat in case you don't get your chance in the open inning as the Home team.

3) Grouping teams would still give you the same amount of games regardless if they are in groups or in one big group. If you have 16 teams you will play 16 games either way and the bracket would not be affected with 1A, 2A, 3A, 4A, 1B, 2B, 3B, 4B and so on for groups C and D.

Again I appreciate you taking this into consideration at your next meeting.

Discussion: Runs Scored vs. Runs Allowed

With these bats and balls and scoring 5 runs an inning why are runs allowed more important than runs scored for breaking ties in the seeding round? Runs scored should be of importance in this group compared to the young up and comers where defense is important for the Men's D and E programs outside of the Senior Program.

Discussion: Groups of Teams for Better Seeding

Has there ever been a thought in trying to group teams in Pool Play? For example if you have 12, 15, 16 teams put an equal amount in 3 to 4 groups of 4 or 5 teams? This would help provide better seeding. Example 12 teams would have 3 groups of 4 teams and after Pool Play you would have 3 - #1 seeds and so on and be able to spread the teams out better in which case teams who play each other in pool play would start out against each other in the bracket round. You would have 1A, 1B, 1C and so on for the teams in those groups instead of one big group.

Discussion: Seeding No Coin Flip Needed

I asked the director last weekend about why is there a Coin Flip once bracket play starts. The answer was not acceptable and basically put back on the committee. Teams that work hard to get a good seed 1 thru 8 should be automatically home team no questions asked. By allowing a Coin Flip it gives those team that are 0-2 or a seed 9 thru 16 an advantage as well to be Home team. By allowing seeds 1 thru 8 to be Home team it gives them the advantage they worked hard for and to give all teams an incentive to make those round robin games count. Somehow the committee doesn't understand the importance of teams playing hard and trying to earn a top seed and not be rewarded.
