June 20, 2020 softball4b | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Upcoming Prescott in July. Fields are in good shape. Leagues started last week. Only smell I noticed was some of the swings I took. 20 degrees cooler than Phoenix or Hemet. No monsoons yet. |
May 26, 2020 softball4b | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Please, a story from anyone! Anything but Corona, Corona, Corona! When you have played this game since 71, I have literally forgotten more than I remember. It was 93 (I think) in Springfield Mo. Our Sun Devils team was playing Ruth Reality in the 40 World's. They had two monster hitters, I mean BIG BOYS. We were ahead by 2 in the 7th and their Monsters were up with one out, first Big Boy mishits the ball and gets a single. Next Big Boy walks up and even though I am a svelte 250lbs, he is easily 100 lbs more. I call time and walk out to the pitcher; Ed Wood a great fielding pitcher. I tell him, Ed throw chest high right down the middle. He looked at me like I was crazy, he never wanted to give up a hit much less the trying runs. I tell him, Ed, they have already hit their 3 HRs, he is either going to hit a bomb and 2 outs or he will a one hopper to you, game over. It took probably 30 seconds for it to sink in, then his eyes got big. Walking slowly back to the plate, I was praying he hit a bomb and did not go middle. Ed threw an absolute BP pitch, chest high, Big Boy probably hit that ball 400'. Dead silence throughout the park, he just walks back to the dugout, next guy one hopper to Ed. Game Over Let's go eat. |

Dec. 19, 2019 softball4b | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: 1 and 1 curiosity See ball hit ball. 5 or 7 opportunities, no difference. I pretty much can eat my potatoes whether they are on the right side or left of the plate. |
Nov. 30, 2019 softball4b | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Rotator Cuff Surgery Just had surgery on Monday. I will update you on progress. I was having limited mobility, left shoulder, not throwing arm. If I did not repair, I would have had to have a reverse replacement within 2 yrs. Just taking pain med to sleep, so far so good. |

Nov. 15, 2019 softball4b | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: WINTER WORLD'S • 65/70-Platinum Update This is a very entertaining thread. I can't even imagine the comments if the 70 year old team had beat the younger guys. Bottom-line - No matter what ingredients go into the stew not everyone is going to enjoy it. If you think SSUSA purposely tilts the scales to favor one team or another then you have the option of not competing either against that team or in that organization. I have played in SSUSA events since 2002 and found their process and procedures, reasonable and professional. Mike Adair |
Oct. 31, 2019 softball4b | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Hip replacement SSUSA is not a medical group nor do they perform diagnosis. They do evaluate has a medical professional submitted a note that the applicant has participated in a major surgery affecting their overall health. I have used this procedure in the past, total hip and total knee replacement, 9 years apart. Did my quality of life improve in each instance, absolutely? Am I the same player I was when 100% healthy, no, some would argue better because I had to learn how to hit. Rather than "dog" the process, ask the Doctor's office for a description of the procedure performed and submit to SSUSA as one of the reasons the player should be considered for reclassification. I have always found STAFF to be fair, professional, and responsive to valid requests! Mike Adair |
Oct. 9, 2019 softball4b | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Idea for next years worlds in Vegas (or any other large tourney) To the best of my knowledge teams usually do not play teams from the same geographic area in pool play. Results dictate seeding and any effort to change that opens the door to favoritism. The way it is done now is fair and what more can you ask. |
Sept. 30, 2019 softball4b | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Passing of Joe Brown Joe took personal pride in making sure your bat was wiped down and placed in its proper place in the dugout. He did not want you to have to think about anything but hitting. He did more on one leg than I do on two. |
Sept. 27, 2019 softball4b | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: WMC Session 2 Updates from Las Vegas Thank you for the updates. This is a valuable enhancement to the tournament experience. |
Sept. 4, 2019 softball4b | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: World Masters Playing at Sunset Park Softball Complex I believe that SSUSA does its very level best to rotate where divisions play. Therefore, if you changed age groups or classifications, you could play at the same park in consecutive years, but not normally. |

April 11, 2019 softball4b | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: SW LVSSA Championships April 23-25, 65-Major Division Timberworks is a great team and should be applauded for putting together such a competitive group of guys. If they play down, use Major rules and still give runs then the advantage should be with the Major team. I have been on both sides of this equation and IMO the advantage is always with the lower division team unless the lower division team is truly a AAA team that has been bumped to Major. Timberworks has had a revamping of their roster, losing some incredible players through age up and injury. This will be their most challenging season physically, mentally, and spiritually.
