Discussion: Achilles Tendon Soreness

Ed,

Ice, ice, and more ice worked for me. I would also suggest trying CBD cream, or salve. It's a cannabidiol made from hemp. Since there's no THC in these products, they're legal. I'm also using a CBD alcohol rub. Do yourself a favor and do a Google search to gather information about the benefits of CBD products.

Dave,

I suspect that the upper levels (Major and Major Plus) will not be playing at the Little Valley complex because of homes beyond the outfield fences that are reachable for some, if not many. I know that for the Huntsman Games, the 50's and 55's do not play there.

Discussion: Are possible changes ahead for future TOC tournaments

B94,

Not sure moving the tourney back two weeks would guarantee better weather. I've been to the TOC four times over the past six years and have had bad weather two of those years. The other two, the weather was great.

We were just there this past February and had the Saturday afternoon games cancelled due to rain. We arrived for our 8am game on Sunday and were greeted with 40 degree temps and 25 plus MPH winds...not ideal softball weather. As long as the TOC is in Central Florida during the Feb time-frame, weather will be a consideration.

I believe that the current contract runs through 2021. While at the TOC, a credible source shared with me that the contract with the Central Florida Sports Marketing Association had been extended for an additional 10 years. If true, the bottom line is that the TOC will be in Florida for the foreseeable future.

Discussion: New Rules

TheCat43,

I understand this issue is settled. The SSUSA Staff response was that every single team competing at the WMC made changes to their qualifying roster. Not sure what the extent of these changes were, but don't really care. The statement itself invited my comments. Teams are required to play a qualifying tournament with the players they want to take to Las Vegas for the WMC. Most regions will have a last chance qualifier to get everyone qualified for Las Vegas, in our case it was the Top Gun Summer Classic in San Clemente, Ca. Of course, if everyone from your team plays in every qualifier, you'll have no roster issues.

Your request for me to explain the Master Roster tells me that you're not the Manager of your particular team. The Master Roster is the roster that is on file with SSUSA for every team...ours had 18 players. The Master Roster is not a qualifier for all tournaments.

Every team's rosters are wiped clean after the WMC as everyone becomes a free agent prior to the Winter Worlds in Phoenix. Assuming your team plans to compete in SSUSA sanctioned tournaments commencing with the Winter Worlds, all teams are required to register their teams annually at cost of $35.

Hope this helps.

SSUSA,

Your response would seem to imply that every team deleted/added players to "load up" for the WMC tournament. I would guess that the majority of teams added players already on their rosters who didn't make the tourney used to qualify for Vegas, in my team's case, the Top Gun Summer Classic. I'd be curious to know how many of the 546 teams added players not on their Master Roster.

I know I speak for my So Cal 55 and Top Gun Elite 60's teammates in sending Terry positive thoughts and prayers for successful treatment and recovery. We look forward to seeing you back soon.

Also, thank you for stressing the importance for all of us to have prostate exams. So many never do this for a myriad of ridiculous reasons and/or some old school thinking. Thank you for the public service announcement to the senior softball community. Hopefully, some thinking will shift.

Discussion: Online Renewal

Gentlemen,

I called the Sacramento office to ask the same question relative to why only the 1 year renewal option on-line. I just turned 59 a few days ago. I was told that the additional years option would be available to me on Nov. 1, after the Oct 31 expiration date of my current 55 card.

SSUSA, if this us incorrect, please clarify.

Thanks Mike,

With our first game being at 8am, my departure from home at 5:30am shouldn't pose a problem. Staying Saturday night in San Clemente, so no issue there either. I know some groups don't start until 5pm...now that's gonna be a problem. Good luck to you and your team.

Dave,

You've got this right. I played at the Aurora Sports Complex the last time the Western Nationals were held there, maybe 3 to 4 years ago. Great complex with 12 fields set up in three quads. The entire tournament at one facility, great for watching other teams. Huge fields surrounding the softball complex where teams can hit prior to games. I was initially concerned about the elevation and how many of us sea level dwellers would fare, but all went great.

Perhaps SSUSA will reconsider this venue for future Western Nationals.

Go to the FORMS tab and click on Player Registration. There you'll find instructions for renewal. I do not believe you'll receive any notification. However, whatever roster you're on will show if your registration is current of expired. Good luck.

Dave,

Appreciate the efforts you and your IT guy are putting forth in this area. Not sure, but maybe look into Microsoft Sharepoint which I used it in my prior work life. Master files are stored in a central repository, on your site which could be accessed by a limited few for real time updates. Files were usually in Excel or PowerPoint format for our applications, but could be in any other.

In order to maintain the integrity and protection of your IP, the files would remain in your repository in their edited format and be shared on the SSUSA website, possibly as a non-editable .pdf file.

Just thinking on the keyboard here.

Dawgbro,

First off, congrats on Wolfpack wining the Western Nationals. I've also relayed my congratulations to your teammate Ken Childress as I'll be playing with his team at the Huntsman Senior Games in October. My team, So Cal 55 will be in Vegas and look forward to competing against you guys.

Now to the issue you've raised. This has always been a bone of contention with many of us in the senior softball community. In some cases, the only tourney results posted are 1st, 2nd, and 3rd with absolutely no detail. Some of us would love to see game detail as a way to scout teams, to see how our competitors are fairing. When a Dave Dowell proclaims that he's the only guy to load this data, I see that as a problem, or as I like to say a single point failure. Certainly not a knock on Dave, just a statement of fact. I would suspect that SSUSA could certainly afford to bring in part time help to do the post tournament data entry work. It would certainly keep the customer base less vocal on this board.

SSUSA, is there a possibility of your tournament bracket files being uploaded as a shared file where each Director would be able to access and update real time? There are certainly business software programs that allow for file sharing. Worth a look...maybe?

Just my two cents.

In listing number of HR's per game by team, how would you have more HR's than allowed. I see Major teams with 7 in a game. How is that'
