Lou, welcome to the board. There's an SSUSA tourney in Phoenix this weekend. I play on a 55 team and we're at Desert West (67th Ave just north of the 60), come on out and introduce yourself and talk to some of the managers, they may be looking for players.

In our leagues in Az we start 6 feet further than where you are starting, basically like Curty said, behind the catcher by the backstop.

If you mean the Bullhead City tournament across the river from Laughlin, it's Mar 4,5&6. They usually have divisions by skill level, A thru E. It's a good tournament.

Right, 50, 55 & 60s start tomorrow. And I agree having the scores posted is great, thanks Dave. I know you're a busy man but I think most of the guys out there really appreciate you posting the scores daily like this. It keeps guys interested in the tournament even if they're not playing in it.

Discussion: Miken SPU2P Ultra II USA 2012

AP, I'm done talking to Miken customer service. The USA model U2 I returned was my 9th Ultra II in the past 4 years so I know what it feels like to hit with one and what they sound like and this bat did neither. I sent emails to customer service and to your VP and neither responded so that told me how much they cared. The bat I returned was new with less than 100 swings on it so it may have passed your compression test but it was an under performing bat. I traded it for a Combat, the guy I traded it to is going to use it for BP. You were once the only game in town for Senior bats but you now have competitors with equal or better merchandise and this year you've taken a step backwards and lost a lot of customers.

Discussion: Miken SPU2P Ultra II USA 2012

My USA model is a dud, I sent it back to Miken and they said it passed their compression test and they sent it back to me. It may have passed their compression test but if you hit with it you know it's a dud. So no matter what Ap39 says, they helped some with replacement bats but they didn't help all and they lost some customers because of it.

Discussion: World Tourn. Updates

It sure would be nice if we had nightly updates on what was going on in Vegas this weekend. For the players and teams that couldn't make it and for the players that played last week and have friends on teams that they would like to know how they're doing.

$695 x 446 teams = $309970

You would think SSUSA would be able to hire someone for 2 weeks to update the scores on their website each night. Am I asking to much?

Mine was stamped 1.21. I think Miken had a bad batch or 2 but they wouldn't give out the serial numbers of the bad batches, they wanted you to spend $20 to send it in and have it tested.

Discussion: Tanel 360 Top Gun IV - San Clemente

I also played in this tournament with my 55AAA team from AZ. We were the only Az team and it was nice to play the CA teams. There was 1 other 55AAA from CA so they grouped us in with the 50AAA teams, which I didn't mind. What I did mind was that we didn't get to play the other 55 team in the seeding games. We did finally get to play each other in the Bracket on Sunday. The tournament could have been run more smoothly, our 1:15 game on Sat didn't start until 2:15 and our last game on Sat night at 7:15 started about 8:45. So we were at the fields from 12:15 PM to 10:00 PM for 3 games. That we didn't enjoy very much but it's always fun and I enjoyed the great weather.

Got my USA model back today with the same letter every one else got, "Thanks for sending it in but it passed our tests and we're sending it back". They said they did a compression test and a field test. The bat may have passed their compression test but the bat under performs from what we expect from an Ultra II. I guess I'll be using it for BP, but it's my last Miken. I saw Gorilla Boy has a new Combat out, a 2 piece Senior Bat (Twilight), I'm going to have him send me one.

Discussion: What does it take?

Hi Mike, G19 is right, it's a trade off between performance and durability. If I could get a Senior bat to last 1 year I would be happy. I play 30 tournaments a year, 25 at bats per, equals 750 swings, plus 50-100 for break in, that's 800-850. I think most guys would be extremely happy if they could get 850 swings out of their Senior bat. I've hat Combats and Mikens and the only bat that lasted for more than a year for me was your Yellow MM Gear. Just make that bat again.

Thanks,

Bruce

Dave & #6, I'm glad that Miken took care of your bats, they're just not taking care of mine. I'm not a HR hitter, but I break 1-2 Ultras a year, so I know what one should hit and sound like. Anyone who hits with an Ultra knows what it sounds like. This USA model that I purchased a couple of months ago doesn't have the same sound and or the same pop. This is Miken's email reply to me;

"I am pleased to inform you that your bat has passed all of its test and we're shipping it back to you."

They might be pleased but I'm not. What tests do they perform?

I've owned 8-10 Ultras in the last 4-5 years but I'm not happy and I won't be buying any more. Sorry to spout off, just wanted to get the word out on the bad experience I had with Miken Customer Service.

Discussion: Miken is NOT taking care of the problem Ultra IIs

I have one of the problem Ultra IIs, the USA model, and I sent it back to Miken 2 weeks ago to be replaced. The bat is dead, it doesn't sound like a UII or hit like a UII. I received an email today from Miken and they said my bat passed their tests and they were shipping it back to me. So now I have a $200 log that will sit in my garage and collect dust. This will be the last bat I buy from Miken. Does anyone have a Reebok or Combat they want to trade for a 27 Oz Ultra II USA?

Thanks,
Bruce

Gary, your boys won their bracket in Prescott, it was 20-19 going into the open and they scored 18 to put it away. Good seeing you again and Tom hit a 3 run walkoff to beat us on Sat.

Thanks Armando, I just received a Return Authorization(RA) Email from Miken. I'm going to send in my Gray USA Ultra II with the Red Knob, it has 100 swings on it and it's dead. Hopefully they'll send me a new one. I've been using my Blue Combat MM that I bought last year at the worlds and it's been a great bat for me.

Discussion: Batters Box Dimensions/Layout

Ed, SSUSA has their Rule book on this website. Go to the top of the page, Tournaments Tab, then Rules. Go to Page 103. Paul was right, the box is 7ft x 3ft. With the Mat, the back line of the Batter's box should be 10 inches behind the Mat and the front line should be 39.5 inches in front of Home Plate/Mat. So yes, the Batter's Box lined out in your league was wrong. It's wrong in most leagues I play in.
