Webbie is out, my understanding of the rule is if you cross the commitment line and then change direction and go back over it toward 3rd, you're out.

Discussion: pitching motion

Tucson, we played against that pitcher twice. On Sat, he did his little hop before he started his pitching motion, someone said something to Blue but he said he did it every pitch so it was part of his pitching motion and he wasn't going to call it illegal. On Sun when we played them, someone must have told him he couldn't do it anymore because he didn't do his little hop the entire game.

Discussion: Another what's the right call?

We're in Pinetop Az this weekend, runner on 1st, batter hits a line drive to 2nd, runner tries to get back to 1st, 2nd base throws the ball wide to 1st, 1st baseman catches the ball but his foot is on the orange bag and the runner is called out. Umpire says the rule is, that the orange and white bag are one.

Thanks for the responses,
Bruce

papoo, I played with a Mark Smith in the late 70s in Ohio, where did you play ball in the 70s? I can also hook you up with a tournament team in Phoenix if you're looking.

Thanks,
Bruce

Discussion: Looking for Seniors ball in Phoenix Metro area

Hi Bop, Not much going on in Senior ball in the summer in Phoenix, it picks back up in the winter when the snowbirds get here. The only league for 50+ in the winter is in Mesa, it starts in Jan and it's run by the parks and rec dept. You can call them or check out their website. They'll put your name on a list for managers that are looking for players. There are leagues in the fall but they're mostly retirement park leagues and you have to be 55. The only other option on the East side is in Scottsdale (see taits post above), they go all year long on Tues & Thurs. They take BP and then play 1-2 games.

Good luck,
Bruce

Hey Tom, I've played with Bill down in Sun Lakes before, he's a hell of a hitter. Where are you guys going to hit and what time on Friday?

Victory Lane is in North Phoenix, but I don't think they have a Senior League there, you'd probably be playing with the kids. There use to be a Fall Senior league in Glendale but I think they moved it to Surprise this past Fall. Not a lot of Senior ball going on in the Summer in AZ except a few tournaments up North in the high country. Tournaments in Prescott in May and Aug and Pinetop tourneys in June and July. Good luck getting a new team together, we can always use more senior players in AZ. If there's anything I can do to help, just let me know.

Hi guys, if you're looking to find a team for this year, most of the AZ teams will be playing in a local tournament in Casa Grande on April 10-11. That's a good place to check out the talent and talk to some of the managers. I know some of the managers if you want me to introduce you, just stop by and we can talk. I play for a 55 team, Greco Hitmen. If you want more information or directions to the field, email me at brucemcclain@yahoo.com.

Thanks,

Discussion: Huntsman round robin games a farce !

So, what happened to them, did they get moved down to AAA? I played in St George last week with a pickup team from Mesa AZ. It looked like we were in the 55-A seeding bracket, we went 2-1 and got bumped up the AA for the tournament. The 8 teams in our Bracket were pretty even, we took Bronze, a CA team took Silver and another AZ team took Gold. They probably should have been rated AAA, they were the best team in our bracket, but I didn't have a problem with them being in AA, we gave them them a good game just couldn't pull it out in the end.

Discussion: can someone tell me the best way

thunder, most sanctioned senior tournaments (SSUSA, SPA, ...) allow almost any bat including the Ultra II and MM Combat. Those 2 bats seem to be the bat of choice for most senior players at the National tournaments. Here in AZ we can use the Ultra II in most of the Senior tournaments all year. But, many of the leagues outlaw the Ultra II because in the leagues you have a mixture of ages from 50-70. Some allow USSSA bats and some leagues allow ASA bats. You would have to check with the league or tournament that you're playing in but that's the overall picture. Hope it helps,

Bruce

Thanks Chuck, that was a great game we had with you guys for the USA championship, 25-24. We both used up our HRs and the ball was flying. You guys are great players and a class act. I know it's harder for the Eastern teams to come out to Phoenix but I'm glad you made the trip, hope you guys enjoyed it. See you next year.

Discussion: Huntsman Games

Just got back from the Huntsman Games in St. George UT. It was my 1st trip and I've heard a lot of good things about it over the years so I thought I would give it a try. My team didn't go so I hooked up with a team from AZ. I really enjoyed the experience and competition. Anyone who is a traditionalist would love it, no home run limits and no PPR. The fields at the Canyons are some of the best I've played on. The weather was great, 70s and 80s all week. The grounds crew watered and drug the fields between games, the staff had bananas, apples, oranges and water in every dugout for every game. A top notch run tournament. I know it's hard to take a weeks vacation to play in if you're still working, but if you get the chance, try it some year, you won't be disappointed.

Jim, go to Eldorado Park in Scottsdale on Tue and Fri mornings from 7 till 10. There are 30 to 40 guys who take BP and then pick teams and play a couple games. Introduce yourself and have some fun.

El Dorado is on Miller road north of McDowell, between Scottsdale and Hayden roads.
