Grounder to the SS. He airmails the throw over the 1st base man's head. As he starts to chase the ball, it rebounds off the fence and right to him. He jumps towards the bases and touches the orange bag a 1/2 step ahead of the runner.

The runner slightly cked up and reached for the white base. Ump calls out-was that right???

Nancy

U brought up a whole different subject that should be addressed. In our 3 tournaments this year, the 12 foot arc has been quite a problem. What is 12' switches from ump to ump, game to game, batter to batter and even while the same batter is in the box during the same at bat.

I would, as a hitter and part time pitcher, like to see senior softball go to the 6' to 10' arc.

I think an ump could easier visualize a yard stick on a pitchers head plus a little more. I think this would create more good pitches to hit and probably eliminate the 1-1 count trials.

This may sound silly on the surface.

However, we have had 5 maybe 6 instances this season where the ump had trouble getting the multi-syllable word ILLEGAL sounded out in time as to not stick it to the batter.

Maybe time for 1 syllable words.

If the pitch is HIGH, then say HIGH.

If the pitch is FLAT, then say FLAT.

Simple-easy

Discussion: 1-1 count and new ball

As U all have seen over the years, I am in favor of the 1-1 count at all age groups.

Question, for those of U who have used the 1-1 count in the younger age groups this year so far: Any impressions about it?

2nd-if U have played with the new ball talked about a few months back-any impressions?

I know I can't meet any of it. Just looking for a guy to off set all my weaknesses with me being the weak link on the team.

If U are a psychopath with a type "A" personality, STOP reading now. U will not fit in.

We are the Chicago Gray Sox-70 AAA based out of Northern Illinois. We are looking for a full time player who can make most of our 11 tournaments. We play SSUSA and SPA. We would prefer someone who will turn 75 during the 2019 season as we are moving up to 75s in Nov. at the Ft. Meyers Winter Nationals. Thus, we will compete well this year @ 70AAA while putting together a solid 75 team for 2019.

Looking for someone who can run for himself and has solid softball skills.
Someone who can play infield and or outfield. U can be either a singles hitter or power hitter. Also, U could be a major player (I believe we can have 3) as we currently have none on our team. Interested?? call Gary 630-347-7475
or E-mail me at garyheifner@hotmail.com Yes, I am the handsome pitcher/outfielder with long hair.

Discussion: pitcher getting hit

There is a very powerful hitter we see often who goes hard middle, often. We pitch and back up quickly toward 2nd. Those xtra steps back have really shut him down (xtra reaction time). Strange considering he can hit the wall anytime he wants.

B.J. nailed it. In addition, as I have posted before: Pitchers, after releasing the ball, assume some form of a defensive stance and be ready.

Discussion: Is it time for Full Time Screen?

My sun City was pretty much against the screen. After numerous pitcher injuries from hit balls, it was inserted. After a few games U hardly noticed it was there. In our 1st 3 games, the screen was only hit twice. The screen is a rather large barrier to a batter. If the hit screen is called a strike, the batter is going to hit somewhere else.

The big plus side is that a ton of batters learned to hit to right. Some developed more power to right than they had to left. Some had not hit a ball over there in years. Many a right fielder made the comment that it was fun to be a real part of the game and field some hit balls.

Now, U are going to have some rebels who will stand off to the side of the screen rather than pitch and step behind until the ball is hit. One rebel now steps behind after taking one in the head.

When I do pitch, I have not had a problem with fielding balls hit my way. Now, we and U should still require to pitcher to wear a mask. When a ground ball is hit and U step out to field it, bad hops still do happen.

We did have a game where the relay hit the screen. The relay guys learned to take the OF throw in an area where they had a clear throw home.

For all the teams, U are an idiot if U don't have a screen for batting practice. There are compact quick set up ones out there. Someone on your team can easily transport one in the truck. Ours was around $300 and everyone kicked in $20 for the purchase. Before we got the screen, guys were hitting BP so as not to hit the pitcher rather than hitting where they hit the most in a game.

If U have not figured it out, I like the screen.

Discussion: MITTS

If I read the rule changes correctly, anyone can now wear a mitt. I assume that means a 1st baseman's mitt.

If that is true, when I pitch, would a mitt be better for defense than a fielder's glove???

Help out an old man. Not sure I understand the above.

To the point. Can a 75+ AAA player, play 5 tournaments
with a 75+ team and can they also play with a 70AAA team in 5 different tournaments?

This does not answer your M or M+ question.

I go for #2. Especially considering my Chicago Gray Sox will be one of the oldest 70AAA teams in the nation.

Defense and the ability to run for themselves and for others wins out all the time. This will be our priority as we put our team together in 2019 for our move to 75 and over.

Discussion: THE NEW BALL

I see stuff on here about a new ball coming out this year.

I have about a dozen new balls (Trump 44/375) in the wrapper from last year since we got knocked out of so many tournaments, early.

Can I use the old/new balls in the, say, prelims this year. If I can, do I want to use them? Are the new ones better than what we have been using???

Discussion: THANKS-STAFF

I know this large group of opinionated old men often disagree with what the STAFF votes on and implements into the rules and the way they conduct business.

However, without you guys we don't have this amazing opportunity to play senior softball.

Thanks for a great 2017 and looking forward to 2018.

PLEASE pass the 1-1. I am an outfielder. But, looks like I might be pitching most of the time in our 11 tournaments.

0-0 means many more pitches for me in the heat and humidity of the Midwest.

Thank you-raiderman66

Gentlemen-reread and then call up one of your 2nd or 3rd grade grand children and ask them to explain the the meaning of:

"Sarcastic Humor"

It is the best BAT I have ever hit. After only "2" games, I sold my 2 Mikens and 2 others the same day.

I thought you might have had a clue as to the sarcasm when I suggested a near 800 average among the 4 guys with 22 x-tra base hits, that the bat might be pretty good.

With my Doctorate in Education, I rarely misspell a word. If I did, your issue might be with Spell Check which showed no errors.

Also, if you can understand the inner meaning of the post, I think Allen will sell hundreds more of these bats than what he planned on.

yes-yes-yes-yes-yes- and so on:

The best Senior Bat on the Market.
