Discussion: WESTERN NATIONALS

Swing, we do travel, every month except one! And yes we have to fly to 95% of the tourneys. rent rooms, rent cars! Unfortunately we are not within driving distance to a lot of the tourneys like Cali is, and we also aren't able to play senior tourneys in our backyard not enough teams per division like Cali,

So to have a WESTERN tourney outside of the state of Cali shouldn't be a big deal to Cali teams

Discussion: WESTERN NATIONALS

If you really want to be fair as to a good location for Western nationals and it is for teams from WEST of the Mississippi, then geographically speaking it should be in Utah or Colorado that way you would really find out how many Cali teams would travel for it, my guess is half would drop out.

Discussion: SSUSA Staff: Shaved Bats

The bat manufactures need to step up and make the bats with either a composite rolled end cap or their best effort to make a tamper proof end cap. Right now their bats can be altered and shaved with removing the end cap, they need to do better to make our game safer.

Discussion: Major Plus Out of Area Players

Webbie, this problem exists at other age brackets also, I agree with your idea of allowing up to 4 out of area players, I suggested that idea on another thread. I believe that SSUSA should adopt this rule next year, it would only strengthen the M+ program and would accommodate many "free agents" who don't have a team play for in their region.

DCPete, that's one of the reasons for striving to play at the top level, I think that if you allowed the number of players from a non bordering state to increase to 4 that a M+ could pick up, you could change the rules when you play a major team to include playing to the M+ home run rule and runs per inning that could definitely make the playing field much more level. Give the major team an opportunity to hit more home runs and score more runs an inning.

LeeLee50 your coastal teams i.e. CA, FL and of course AZ usually have no problem with enough Major+ players, it's the other regions i was referring to, like northeast, mid-west, upper mid-west, northwest etc. Also a Major+ team is already allowed to pick up 2 players from non border states, I was merely suggesting that SSUSA consider upping that number to 4. There are not that many Major+ teams, consider the fact that there were 3 times as many teams in the Major bracket for worlds and how many times have we seen a Major team get bumped only to disband or players go to the next age bracket the very next season!

Jawood, the trouble is, their are Major+ players out there in certain regions but not enough of them to make a Major+ team. The ability for Major+ teams to have 2 players from non border states keeps those players playing that have the Major+ tag. I think if you bumped that number up by 2 you would have even MORE Major+ teams, heck there were 3 Major teams reclassified to Major+ mid season and only 1 went to World's.

In keeping the Major+ program vibrant and growing, this team from Oregon is looking for players. Which is precisely why the Plus program should do away with the border states rule entirely, or at least up the number of players you can get from other than bordering states to 4. I think at the top level in any age bracket the talent gets quite hard to find and a lot of the times your bordering states can't supply enough. IHMO

I think in the near future, SSUSA will want to relax the border state rule with any division, frankly I don't care where you come from or who you play with so long as you are playing. It equals more teams and better competition.

Tonny6, thanks for the props. Some of us did land on a team and are finalizing things with them, hope to see you out there again this year. I can say one thing you were the toughest out we faced all year! In fact did we ever get you out!

Some info on the 4 of us looking for a team. We all batted over .700 for the season, we were the 4 youngest members of our team last year and the other guys moved up to 55's.

Discussion: 50 Major Plus Top 3

Having this as our first tourney as a M+ team I would like to congratulate the top 3 finishers. On a sadder note I was extremely disappointed in how the umpires were verbally berated in three of our games by other teams, I was expecting players to be much more mature in dealing with them. I do understand frustration and expectations, however at the top level verbal abuse is uncalled for especially with one man umpires in pool play.

Discussion: Using one ball for all games

I would like to propose that SSUSA use only the "Rock" softball in every tournament starting next season. I have heard a lot of complaints about the trump stote ball and how in hot weather it does not fly. I have also experienced this first hand in several tournaments, in cool weather the trump stote does just fine, but once those temps get above 85 degrees this ball loses a lot of it's flight. Having to shell out good money for tourney fees, flights, hotels, etc. I believe we deserve the best ball and have heard nothing but good things about the "Rock".

Discussion: Senior bats vs. 52/300 ball

I sure miss the old days of aluminum alloy bats and blue dots, sure you had guys that shaved the walls but your bat wouldn't last long and you could tell when it was done, it was DENTED! Plus you could recycle it! I would love to see a senior tourney with single wall aluminum alloy bats and blue dots, just once.

Dave, Couple more days likely ... Still have two teams in that session that can't make a final decision on remaining in the event ...we are two weeks away from the event and teams haven't made a decision on playing or not? Why have an entry deadline?

Discussion: Fields and Teams - Major Tournaments

I think there should be other venues considered, I for one would like to see Denver get the nod, we have plenty of fields and great things to do here. I think another big plus would be equal flight times for west and east coast teams. I also wouldn't mind seeing the worlds go to Texas, or back to Pheonix. I like Vegas but just would like to see a change in the future.
